Journal Entry 5 Earlier this week we focused on ancient eastern China during the Han Dynasty and the east asian philosophies that arose during this time period. We reviewed three great asian philosophers, Confucius, Lao Tzu, and Buddha. In class we also picked from a list of quotes from these three philosophers a quote they said that really resonated with us and wrote a descriptive essay on it and shared it in class for extra credit. During 350 BC in eastern China was a waring time period and was a time of extreme chaos. 256 wars in a span of 900 years between 256 states that later solidified into 7 states in china during the Chou Dynasty. The Chou Dynasty would then collapse and give rise to the Han Dynasty which was a huge civilization governing over 60 million people. This was a major period of industrialization and capitalization in China. During this period forced labor was put into place to have workers actually do major projects such as the Great Wall and other different projects. He was known as a record keeper for the government and was also an anarchist. He believed in a small government at most, he didn’t like the idea of a big centralized government having huge amounts of power. Very anti-authoritarian and extremely libertarian. He denied the need for a ruler, yearned for minimizing government overall, and that citizens should achieve personal and economical achievements which would naturally spread and reflect the society. He’s sayings are constantly compared with natures and wanted people to look inward for guidance and answers. Lao Tzu’s philosophical ideology which is known as Daoism was created over 2,000 years ago has replicated into over 20 million followers
