What’s meant to be will always find a way. It is a popular belief that your life is governed by only yourself and it is only your choices that affect your outcome. However, when you look the truth of life you realize that perhaps you don’t have as much freedom as you think you do. After all, you have absolutely no control over when and where you are born, over when you die or get a serious illness or complication, and how other people react to situations in their life that could ultimately affect your own. Your entire life revolves around what fate has in store for you.

In fact, there is absolutely no way to be one hundred percent positive that someone will be on your side. In the novella “The Pearl” a character responds “‘You have heard of fool’s gold?’ The dealer said. ‘This is fool’s gold. It is too large’” (Steinbeck 49). The original plan for the character Kino was to get a good amount of money for the pearl. Fate on the other hand had a different plan the Kino had no control of. You also do not have any control over the decisions other people in your life make. A hunter in the story of “The Pearl” remarks “‘If it is a coyote, this will stop it’ the hunter said as he raised the gun” (Steinbeck 86). Soon after, the hunter shoots the head off of an innocent baby. The other characters in the book did not chose for the hunter to take the gun and shoot. Fate is what planned for the hunter to be there at exact same time and place as Kino and his family. There are other sides to this debate which include the idea that if a person is in an automobile accident, they made the choice to text while driving. While this is true, the person in the other car was just minding their own business not realizing they were following the path that fate planned out for them that would lead to their death.
