The renaissance period started around 14th century and lasted until 18th century (1300-1700). In the 14th century, artists and scientists began to appear once more in Italy. This was the beginning of the renaissance, which means rebirth. “The development of new technologies–including the printing press, a new system of astronomy and the discovery and exploration of new continents–was accompanied by a flowering of philosophy, literature and especially art.” (“Renaissance Art”, April 4, 2018). The model for the renaissance was ancient Greece and Rome. Artists tried to copy styles from those times. Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Botticelli reinvented the art of painting. Analysis of Art #1 using three art elements and two design principles The classic tale of Adam and Eve is famous, not only with Christians but with people worldwide. This tale is found in the Christian bible and depicts the creation of humanity is the same tell that Michelangelo told with paint instead of words when he made “The Creation of Adam”, regarded as a masterpiece by most. There is much to analyze and read into when one talks of The Creation of Adam, but before that can be done, there is background information that must be known. Michelangelo Buanorotti lived from 1475 to 1564 and became one of the most famous Italian Renaissance artists. Michelangelo always considered himself more of a sculptor than a painter, he painted one of the most awe-inspiring pieces in the entire art world: the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City, after he was commissioned to do so by pope Julius II. From 1508-1512, Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with a series of frescoes that portrayed several biblical stories. There is much to see and explain in this large scale, 3 by 6 meter fresco. Even though the fresco is that big, everything is proportional. He painted this scene with vibrant colors and incredible detail. On the fresco, there is God on the right dressed in a white robe and being suspended in the air, surrounded by angels. To the left there is Adam lying on the floor naked. How everything is placed in the fresco, makes everything look balanced. Both have their arms stretched out and their fingers are about to touch but they haven’t yet. That, to me emphasizes the painting, since that was the first thing I noticed. In the scenery, there is much more to explain and analyze. For example, we see that Adam is mirroring God, posing the same, which is a reference from Genesis 1:27; God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him. (Bible Getaway, 2018) We can also analyze that God is about to spark life into Adam, which is why he is going to touch him. On the subject of touching him, we see that the hands of Adam are separate to symbolize the difference between human and God and how they’re not on the same level. Another thing to take note of is the fact that all angels have blurred faces except for a feminine figure and a baby to the right of God. It is speculated that this feminine figure is Eve seeing as she comes into the world after Adam, but the fact that there is a baby there, also
