In various occasions there have been several scandals with celebrities and other important people. Some celebrities and athletes have successfully dodged the media attention on some scandals. However, Ryan Lochte was not fortunate enough to keep his scandal a secret, and was soon exposed to the world of his wronging’s during the Olympic Games. Soon after his exposure, many companies that sponsored Lochte wanted out. Speedo was one of the main brands to discontinue Lochte’s sponsor and released an explanation on twitter. In addition, The Atlantic wrote about the issue with Lochte and the several companies that were quick to end their sponsorship with Lochte. Both texts are different, but each are a representation of what happens when someone like Lochte makes mistakes. While the speedo tweet only focuses on Lochte and their brand, The Atlantic expands on the various decisions of other companies. While both authors do an excellent job of conveying and interpreting their reasoning, The …show more content…
The Atlantic is a well known news site that provides articles of the news to the public for free. Furthermore, Calamur is the senior editor at The Atlantic, and is not some random individual who writes blogs and uploads them online, he is the real deal. In addition to his credibility as an author, Calamur does not only limit himself to speedo’s leaving, he incorporates the other three sponsorships that have ended their deal with Lochte. Not only speedo ended Lochte’s sponsorship, but also Ralph Lauren, Gentle Hair Removal, and Airweave. All four of the companies were official suppliers “specifically for Team USA” (Calamur). As the reader reads through the article, there is more information the article has to offer and involves some of the background info concerning the Lochte situation. After reading the article, the author has firmly and efficiently presented his ethos through the information
Sport agents typically handle contract negotiations for athletes, as well as any public relation issues, finance issues, and endorsement deals (Evans, 2010). Over the years, however, sport agents have become more to athletes than just a contract negotiator; they have taken upon the additional tasks of marketing their client’s ability, persona, and brand. With the increasing friction from collegiate athletes over the fact that they continue to be unpaid while simultaneously generating millions in revenue, agents look increasingly more inviting with the cars, money, and gifts they offer promising young
Only once in a lifetime is one blessed to witness legendary athletes perform and break records. I was fortunate enough to witness the even during my generation when Michael Phelps smashed world records in 1 sensational week that took the sporting world by storm. Phelps rose to stardom and soon was minting millions through endorsement deals not only in the US but across the globe as well. At a quick glance, one would assume that Phelps became a sensation overnight. But a deeper research into the strategy that made Michael Phelps the sportsman he is, is astounding and shows that a proper brand building, hard work and commitment towards the set targets and goals can reap dividends. The following case study answers some of the questions asked in the book Strategic Management by F.T.Rothaermel
In this week’s chapter The Atlantic World which introduces the history from prehistory through 1566, there were two themes that stand out for me which are: The Big “C”s, Conquest, Commerce, Colonization, & Conversion and Race. The history resembles on the European expansion and the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus was the first person to discover the American continent. The New World was another name given to America. The American territory differed in social, economically and politically. America was divided by three societies: Aztecs, Mayan and Incan which belonged to urban societies. Colonization was a breakthrough for both continents. They adaptation was about to begin, there were new things that one continent had
The athlete can be trusted – We have numerous examples of athletes that have embarrassed the companies that they endorse. The largest and most recent is Tiger, but even mom-and-pop stores need to do their due diligence before they sign an endorser. Nike could sit back and weather the storm, but smaller companies might not be able to. (Miller)
These days it seems as society is constantly being faced with Ethical Dilemmas. Whether it is normal everyday citizens, actors, business executives, and even athletes. The way that every person deal with ethical dilemmas is by relying on their worldview. The world of professional sports is a very tough and competitive place. It is full of top level athletes that are masters in their respective sports and the struggle that they all face is to be better than everyone else. With all these athletes working hard and looking for new ways to better themselves, some take the easy way over the right way. In this paper, the ethical dilemma of performance enhancing drugs being used in sports will be addressed
The ethics of businesses are under more scrutiny than ever before (Bones, 2014). Ethics can be considered as following a code of behaviour agreeable with the context of society and can also be defined as the application of moral and ethical considerations in a business environment (Hurn, 2008). Sport businesses have been targeted a lot more in recent years due to the conditions they place their workers in has become more apparent to the outside world. Nike are one of the world’s leading sports brands but have been faced with many allegations in recent years (Daily Mail, 2011) in regards to the conditions they put their workers in and their ethics and morals have been questioned. This report will critically evaluate the impact ethics has on the business operations of Nike and then analyse the reasons for why ethics impact the sport organisation. Finally, recommendations will be made to improve Nike’s business ethics.
Although Erik Spanberg and Adam O’Daniel (2014) stated that none of the Panthers’ financial sponsors will likely pull away from their donations, these major corporate sponsors don’t want to further tarnish their reputation with the NFL’s bad publicity. Nonetheless, if a NFL’s future decision regarding domestic violence, a widely debated topic in the NFL, generates more negative publicity, these major corporations are willing to stop sponsoring their teams. For example, due to the Adrian Peterson’s famous domestic violence and child abuse case, major sponsor Nike issued the following statement:
Tripper should also assert a policy argument stating that he needs to be afforded protection against false suggestions of endorsement or sponsorship because it is imperative for athletes, such as himself, to protect their valuable existing and potential contracts to prevent the brands from dropping out of the contracts with the athletes due to their tarnished or diluted image and likeness. See RPA at 127; and class discussion about Michael Jordan litigating abroad to protect his signature shoes. Similarly to Michael Jordan, Tripper has a signature shoe and has a signature style on the court that contributes to his likeness and image in the eyes of consumers. Furthermore, the indefinite halt of his potential poster contract with Panini signifies that Topcat’s posters prevent Tripper from entering into a legitimate contract with Panini. Moreover, the other companies retracted from offering Tripper endorsement
The Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the five oceans in the world. It is home to many fish and other creatures. It is one of the five oceans that actually intrigue me. My questions were, How big is the ocean itself, what life lives here, and the trade routes of this ocean.
How did the Atlantic System affect Europe, Africa, and the Americas? (The Earth and Its Peoples, 500)
Over the last few decades, the empire of college sports has become one of the all-time great ventures. Division I college football programs typically generate between $40 and $80 million in profits a year, even after paying coaches multimillion-dollar salaries. With so much money, many people -- including the press -- fear these powerful college programs because of their ability and size over the smaller organizations. The NCAA, however, does not. No matter how powerful a program or how popular or important an athlete or coach might seem, the NCAA regularly sanctions athletes, coaches and programs that break the rules. Since the 1950’s, there have been numerous scandals produced by college athletes and coaches including Derek Rose, Jerry
The important part of the Atlantic system was the Middle passage because that was a key route for slaves to travel by ships, and the route was from West Indies to the West Africa. Generally, the Sugar Industry did improve the economy which impacted people in a good way because people started connected with each other.
The media controls the ideological values, attitudes and beliefs the public sees through the use of different text structures that support their article. The article ‘Cousins pleads guilty to drugs charges’ (Brown, A. 2012. Cousins pleads guilty to drugs charges. Retrieved:- http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/cousins-pleads-guilty-to-drugs-charges-20120627-211jo.html) expresses clearly that they do not value a lair, have a negative attitude towards drugs and they believe that the sports star Ben Cousins never really got over his abuse of drugs. Ben Cousins was once at the top of his game and was considered to be an example of a typical sportsperson, now he has lost that title through his abuse of drugs.
New employees in the career of sports marketing lead by example from some of the most successful products such as the Red Bull energy drink and Skullcandy products. The most efficient way to be successful is to promote products with several sponsors. For example, everyone knows what Red Bull is, a sports drink known for its burst of energy right when we need it. The company has had great success taking a new approach on sponsorship. Conway argues in his article “A Sports Marketing Success Story” that “Red Bull wants to own teams and events. The company has a huge focus on brand management and ownership allows it to completely control how its brand
