While many people believe that competitive sports should be banned from schools and from kids in general, my belief is that they have a largely outweighing positive impact. There are a few reasons that I believe so, the first of which is that they help unfit and obese children to begin living a healthy lifestyle, and also motivates them to do so. Another reason I think competitive sports should be allowed among kids is that they make you more confident and highers your self-esteem. Thirdly, I believe so because with all of the work that the kids are doing at school, they need some way of having fun with their friends, and in my opinion, one of the best ways to do that is by playing a competitive sport. Competitive sports should be available to children to play.
Today, over 17% of American children are obese, and when competitive sports come into play, children start getting motivated to lose weight and eat healthier, especially when their friends are participating in the sport with them. However, a lot of the time, children that aren’t highly skilled get criticised by their teammates and coaches, but most of the time, that only make them want to prove themselves further, and

Have fun. Enjoy the game.” Most schools in the U.S. have a school day that last six to eight hours, and students come home, tired, and don’t have a chance to “get active” the rest of the day, so, competitive sports are the way to go. Dr. Gibson continues to mention that, “If you have trouble getting to the gym, there may be more incentive to show up and play if you know your coaches or teammates depend on you.” When friends get together on a team and play a game with another group of friends, it’s much more fun than, say, going to the gym. Plus, it’s a much healthier option than sitting at home all day watching TV or playing video games. Competitive sports are meant for us to enjoy, so let’s
There are many fans and parents that like going to games to see their favorite players or kids play and they spend their game time watching their players make baskets or scoring touchdowns. But, there are also those fans that sit in the bleachers game after game whose players never seem make it off the bench. This happens more often in High School sports than college and professional sports. The coaches of any sports team usually put in the best players or maybe they have a favorite player that's the “star” player that gets more time in the game and more practice and help outside the games and practices. Certain players, however, should not get more attention from their coach or coach’s than others.
The first reason I think kids should play competitive sports is communication. Communication is one major skill you will need in order to get a job, and what is convenient about this is that competitive sports can teach you this life skill. Coaches who mainly focus on communication are teaching youth athletes how to maintain and start relationships such as, family, friends, etc. Communication is mainly (in sports) taught through “games” if you are playing a game such as soccer you will need to communicate with your team members in order to work together.. But communication is not only taught through sports it is also mainly taught through school from working on group projects to something as simple as recess or lunch. LIke I said before understanding communication and how it works is key to getting a job. In a Career Quest article “Why Communication Skills are Essential to Your Future Career” says in a employee survey that communication skills almost
There have been many debates over the topic of whether competitive sports should be allowed or not. Competitive sports have been going on for a while now (164 years ago, to be exact) so why stop now? Competitive sports should be allowed for young kids and teenagers because they help kids learn important feelings and lessons, vital to know in the real world, whether current or future, it helps athletes get a head start in life more than non-athletes, and competitive sports helps kids to be and stay healthy.
Over the years, the growth and changes in competitive sports has increased significantly. Sports games are now available twenty four seven weather it’s on national television or the radio, these activities have become a staple to American culture. Due in part to this, organizations have changed American athletics from more of a fun playtime to competition. Although, we may enjoy watching an intense sports game on television, the emotional and physical long term effects outweigh the entertainment of the people eagerly watching these activities occur. Also, the motivation to play the sport has become less about the team aspect and more about the emphasis on victory. Due to the unhealthy support from those around developing athletes, they’re
High school athletics are important to athletes that eat, sleep, and even dream sports. This is awesome for anyone that loves and has a passion for the game. What happens after a couple years of high school athletics if a player is really good at what they do? These athletes will start getting offers from colleges and if they are good enough then they may get offers from the NBA.
Every four years every country across the planet partakes in the biggest sporting event; the Olympics. Athletes spend countless hours practicing for their spot on the podium. A podium for three individuals denoted with a first, second, and third place finish and medallion. However, in today's world, children who are playing sports, are growing up all standing on the first-place podium and are all handed participation trophies. YMCA leagues, Little League Baseball teams and every other major youth sports program exemplifies the fact that everyone who plays deserves a trophy to feel accomplished, but that is unnecessary. Giving participation trophies to students gives them a false sense of success later in life.
Children playing competitive sports is hotly contested because people think that they should not participate. People think that competitive sports can help kids burn calories and lose weight, improve their grades, and help them make friends. Others argue that sports can injure children, bring their self esteem down, and it costs a lot of money. I believe that kids should not participate in competitive sports because of those reasons. First of all, kids can get seriously injured when playing competitive sports.
Some think that kids should go out for competitive sports, but others say that kids should not go out for competitive sports. Overall it should not be a thing because people take the risk of getting a fatal injury from competitive. This doesn’t sound like a good thing but many are taking a risk with most sports having contact with one another. Many players often get injuries or have a chance of getting a concussion. There are also other ways to get physically fit or eating healthy by not taking the risk of any minor or major injuries and just choosing to be healthy. The cost is also a big factor in doing competitive sports because you may have to spend a lot of money on equipment or lessons.
Why is it so common for pro athletes to become bankrupt subsequently after their retirement from the game or after being fired for poor performance? I mean let’s face it we know all about the high paying jobs like becoming a doctor or lawyer, lead technician… yes these big time jobs everyone dreams of and assumes they will take care of your finances by itself. For the most part, this is true, actually it is very true. Any of the jobs I just mentioned will take care of you for the years to come and after that to the point where you will just have money to blow on anything. However, there is something bigger… much bigger, and that is in the billion dollar franchise of pro sports. There is unimaginable wealth and greed involved in this industry. Actually in some sports like the national football league the league minimum as of 2014 is a whopping and incredible 420k and that’s just the first taste of money you will receive during your introduction year as a rookie, and trust me this number is growing outstandingly every year http://athletevsdoctorpay.blogspot.com/. Sounds like quite a bit of money just for slinging a football across a field, hitting things with a bat, or shooting a ball into a hoop.
The amount of kids going out for school sports is very high at our school. Many bad decisions would be made without interactive school competitions. Some people might not want to even go out for some of the sports. In many of people’s houses around Osky competitive sports is what they live for. Taking out school sports competition against other schools would be a very bad things for the student athletes, the community, and the town of Oskaloosa.
Today we are asking Principal Schwanz to cut the contact sports in our school. These dangerous sports result in concussions, parent pressure, and unnecessary school stress. If kids are able to do other non-contact activities, it will result in better grades and less stress on the student. With these extracurricular activities, the child will be exposed to opportunities that build character and friendships.
Girls can not play at a competitive high level against guys in contact sports or even just any contact sport. Some people believe girls are capable of playing with boys. Girls do not have the physical advantages that guys have. Combine boys and girls sports teams would ruin and make sports boring. This information really only applies to middle school and above contact sports. Coed sports should not exist in any contact sport because boys are bigger and stronger than girls, boys have higher skill levels, and girls are more injury prone.
The United States is a staggering thirty percent of the world’s obesity; that percentage could be reduced up to 10% if elementary aged kids participated in a sport; so be active SPC! (Janssen). One issue with elementary kids playing an organized sport is that most schools do not offer school sports until the middle school ages (6th-12th grade). Starting a sport at an early age not only is an advantage to being better at the sport when a child is older, it also increases the chances of going to college (Lindholm). High school athletes are more likely to attend college because of sports, starting sports earlier is better because they get a head start (Mandic). Elementary students playing sports opens up room for improvement.
The first reason why kids should not be allowed to do competitive sports is because the price of kids playing sports is becoming unreasonably high. According to the website Huffpost their atical “High Coast Off Youth Sports” by VisualNews.com states that, “In the United States, parents spend $671 on average per year to cover the costs of uniforms and the hefty fees charged for registration, lessons and coaching, and at least 1 in 5 ends up spending over $1,000 per child, every year.” This further shows that competitive sports are very costly. The average american has an 59,039 income and the average amount of children in a household is two. So, if they do sports for 10 years it that 20,000 dollars on sports(one sport each.).This can hurt you financially.
Millions of American children and teenagers are overweight. Over past three decades the incidence of obesity in children has tripled. Abundance of time spent in front of screens and limited access to recess, physical education, and afterschool programs. Sports can help promote physical fitness, health, and even nutrition among our children. Children who are obese often experience a diminished quality of life, learning difficulties, decreased self-confidence, and social discrimination. Participating in competitive youth sports burns calories, controls weight, reduces fat, prevent or delays the development of high blood pressure and helps to prevent adult obesity. Children who are active in sports are motivated to eat healthier foods, such as fruits and vegetables. Youth sports have been shown to break the vicious cycle of inactivity and unhealthy lifestyles by improving caloric expenditure, increasing time spent away from entertainment media, and minimizing unnecessary snacking.
