Introduction
Philosophy and computers do not seen like they would have much relevance to each other but in actuality they coincide with one another through ethics. Ethics are the general principles that outlines the basic standard of what is right and what is wrong. They are the moral philosophy that people live and abide by in their everyday lives. Computer ethics are a more specific realm of ethics. They are the basic principles that “regulate the use of computers” and uses computing in an appropriate manner (Computer Ethics). This include privacy concerns, intellectual property rights, and the effects of how the computer effects our society (Computer Ethics). It is important to keep and healthy learning and working environment and that is why a specific set of ethics should be followed in the computer industry.
Code of Ethic
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) abides by a code of ethic which is to be followed by every member and employee of the association. There are eight outlining rules that create the overall acceptable professional work environment (Computer Ethics). These rules are not only important but should be followed in every learning, professional, or work environment. The first rule is “contribute to society and human well-being.” This rule recognize the respecting different types of people, diversity, backgrounds that are all brought together in a working
Being a non-traditional student, I have the opportunity to attend school while also pursuing a career in Information Technology (IT). Within the field of IT there are many avenues to explore ethics depending on the type of business that is being supported, or what the technical specialty may be. For instance, if the business operates in a medical environment that treats patients, there are privacy concerns, and ethical standards that must be followed. The same can be said for the financial community, and education. While the breadth of Information Technology and the available specializations are vast, perhaps even more impressive are the amount of trust and ethical burden placed on the Information Technology professional.
We can compare the IEEE/ACM codes of ethics and ACS codes of ethic of Professional development as ICT member has to enhance his skills and knowledge and that of your colleagues and staff also. So we can compare of achieving this codes of ethic in IEEE/ACM codes of ethics with “Colleagues”, “Self”, and “Professional” codes of ethics
As mentioned in my discussion, Health Information Coding Supervisors are trusted individuals who have access to an organization’s highly confidential security system. A misrepresentation of this position can lead to significant consequences because of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (Prophet, 2015). Criminal penalties imposed on individuals who knowingly and willfully attempt to execute a scheme to defraud any health care benefit program can be up to 10 years imprisonment and possibly life imprisonment depending on the circumstances. Civil monetary penalties can lead to $2000 to $10,000 for each fraudulent payment received.
One of the most significant concern facing IT industry in the 21st century is legal, social, ethical and professional issues that are associated with appropriate uses of technologies in computing. During the implantation of the Greenwich Freecycling website, many of these issues were encountered. By deploying the correct combination of technologies that is available when implementing the website some of these issues were conquered and overcome.
The majority of the time the use of HIM coders are involved in billing and reimbursements. However, coding specialists are important players within the healthcare industry.(Davis, 2014,2007,2002) They certify that providers maintain accuracy with coding procedures and government rules. (Davis, 2014,2007,2002) HIM functions and complex of regulatory requirements where coding can be very challenging. (AHIMA, 2016) The coders follow guidelines of the American Health Information Management Association AHIMA) Code of Ethics. (AHIMA, 2016) On the patient level, it is vitally important for the coder to code accurately because this information will trail the patient success throughout their course of treatment and beyond.
Fractal Entertainment has requested the creation of this project in order to keep their employees informed and up to date on professional bodies relevant to them, current legislations, code of conducts and the current issue of ethics in computing. In this project I am to provide in depth insight to the topics mentioned, and to provide accurate information for the benefit of the staff at Fractal Entertainment.
The second standard of Ethical Coding is to report all healthcare data elements required for external reporting purposes completely and accurately, in accordance with regulatory and documentation standards and requirements and applicable official coding conventions, rules, and guidelines. Under this standard, a coding professional should first adhere to the ICD coding conventions, official coding guidelines approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Hospital Association (AHA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the CPT rules established by the AHA, and any other official coding rules and guidelines established
Coding is the medical field is regarded as being an important role in providing proper billing for healthcare services. Therefore, the level of responsibility for ethical coding practices is essential in maintaining the integrity of the healthcare organization that they work in. Coders are faced with challenges every day to maybe upcode, down code or assigned inappropriate classification system codes (Flite, 2013). According to the Dictionationary.com, a coder is, “a person who assigns numeric codes to represent diagnosis and procedures, describe patient treatment and delineates fees for health services based on an official classification system (www.dictionary.com).” The coder must adhere to the policies and procedures as outline in the
This article look at the compliance of medical coding and how it affects the health care industry. Coding compliance has come in effect primarily in the 1990’s. The article basically looks at defining ethics and it involves coding and complying with the guidelines. The article looks at procedures for coding. Coding procedures are usually designed to fit the needs of the particular settings. According to the article some codes are general straight forward. However in some health care setting codes have to justified or clarified with more information. These codes may need modifiers to make the adjustment.
Clinton and Ohlschlager define a code ethics as: “a systematic statement of ethical standards that represent the moral convictions and guide the practice behavior of a group…” (2002 p.245). The AACC Code of Ethics exists to provide counselors with a set of ethical guidelines to for ethical conduct in a field that can be perilous and dangerous to navigate. The two ethical questions raised in situation one are consultation and disclosure.
D) Relevant ethical codes that can be applied to the articles (please be sure which code of ethics you are citing) and how you would apply such code(s).
Imagine if you will an organization where there is no law and order, where the environment is that of an everything goes mentality. Workers are free to do as they please without any fear of reprisal or repercussions, and chaos reigns supreme. Interaction among coworkers is non-existent, and professionalism does not exist.
In conclusion, Ethical codes of conduct are required standards of care created by institutions with individuals providing services inside of them. Ethical codes determine the behavior of the physicians and employees together, the community and their relationship to the organization. Breaking these laws can lead to serious circumstances, since these codes regulate private and confidential information. Because of a code of ethics, physicians are required to maintain a professional relationship with the patient as well as provide them with adequate information concerning them. Ethical codes also have exceptions and complicated situations. For example, an individual diagnosed with HIV or AIDS is at greater risk for spreading the disease and the

IT Professional is a publication (Keith W. Miller 2009), it is such like book publication, it also has copyright problem, plagiarism problem, and many problems like book publication, so, to be the Professionals, they must act like the book authors to solve these problems. In aspects of IT, the side of ethical problems are including advice on how professionals can recognize, analyze, and make judgments on challenging questions about right, wrong, and computing. Computers have become essential tools of modern humans, regardless life, entertainment, education, work, and business are related with computer. Computer impact on human society very much. So knowing the Information Technology Ethics is very important to everyone, because it is useful to everyone who lives in this
