Conjoint Therapy as a counselling model for victims and perpetrators of violence
Every day, most of the people are facing and touching with variety of violence including domestic violence, such as yelling, sexually abusing and punishment from angry drunken parents and, public violence or bulling at church schools and state schools (Wilson, 2002). However, there is not only perpetrators but also the person who help victims including grand-parents, mothers, sibling, relatives, neighbors and violence services organizations are living around the victims to give a helping-hands (Wilson,2002). To prevent or mitigate the violence, different organizations may approach to different participants such as individual, family or a group programme to conduct
The Purpose of this paper is to understand what Domestic violence is and it will also describe the justice system and how it fails to help the victims of domestic violence.
The case that will be used for this paper is an example from a psycho-educational group that I helped facilitate during my placement at Catholic Family Services of Peel. The group was targeted towards mothers and their children who have witnessed domestic violence. The group met once week for 2 hours for a total duration of 8 weeks. The sessions covered various topics to improve parenting and assist parents in eliminating negative behaviours among their children (e.g., problem-solving, anger management).
Life is filled with many difficulties which affect us all in one way or another. However, we do not all face the same difficulties. If we are to survive we need to first understand what these difficulties or problems are, in order to learn how to deal with them. One such problem is, is domestic violence. It is necessary to determine whether the problem is personal one or due to society (social problems), so that the individuals involved can learn how to deal with their situation.
Through, the years Domestic abuse and police arrests has impacted society because the police officers failed to provide equal protection towards women who are victims towards sexual abuse. Therefore, the policy reform was established to reduce crimes and political power. However, violent crimes have been categorized with higher rates of proscution.Women were not provided with equal protection against domestic abuse and increased the rate of victims who are incarcerated. Women who encountered domestic violence have been arrested for self-defense. Victims of domestic abuse have been physically forced and violently assault in order to take advantage of them and form authority over them. In order to understand the social world we need to include women experiences towards domestic violence and mandatory arrest in order to reduce crimes and prevent victims from being incarcerated.
In most circumstances, family and loved ones are usually seen as the most reliable support systems that a person can have. However, there are certain circumstances in which family members are the ones who are creating the problems. One of the prominent issues that can potentially occur within families involves domestic violence, with the victim usually being a woman. With most family matters, those who are looking from the outside are usually hesitant in intervening with those types of personal issues. In order to reduce the occurrence of domestic violence, there must be assistance and training provided for all of the parties involved. This includes providing assistance to the victim, perpetrator, and third parties in order for change
Collaborative counseling is another intervention strategy that should be provided. Collaborative counseling consists of counselors working together with the client to examine problems and identify options that work toward problem resolution (McClam & Woodside, 2012, p.141). This strategic counseling method would be beneficial to Cherie because it will allow her to take part in the decision-making process, thus creating a sense of empowerment.
Violence and hate crimes are frequent in the United States and have become a major issue for many people. Violence comes in many different forms such as domestic, societal, and individual. Violence is the main cause of distress and has the power to tear families apart. As a result, the newer generation of kids are left to deal with insecurity, inequality, and injustice. In order to ensure that people carry out the proper approach to violence, professionals and even every day individuals must be trained through education or forums on how to manage these issues. The purpose of this paper is to provide an intercultural approach to reduce the violence and the suffering that many communities face.
When contemplating the holocaust, the question of how so many people could have allowed such horrors to unfold, baffle the minds of thousands. It was not sudden and out of the blue, as it may seem looking back now. The Nazi Party spent years of effort and dedication into building an environment of racial intolerance and hostility until Germany was ripe to house mass murder. Did their usage of propaganda play a vital role in doing so? Yes, the importance and influence of Nazi Propaganda usage can be broken down into 3 parts: Nazi approach to propaganda use, Nazi utilization of propaganda and lastly the effects of said propaganda.
I attended the group session on March 26, 2017. The counseling group session was conducted in office and it last about 45 minutes. The setting was counseling therapeutic activity group. Therapeutic activity group is to assist a client who need assistant with developing insight, coping or social skills etc. The group is a closed group and it is a homogenous group.
In this day and age, relationships between teens and parents are usually a little broken to some extent. A lot of teens, including myself, feel that my parents have NO idea what I am going through or what it is like to grow up in my time. However, sometimes we forget that even though our parents are old, ha, they did also grow up and they went through a lot of the same things we are going through. Many students seek clinical counseling and request to have information that they are telling the counselor to be kept confidential, even from parents. Now this raises many issues because as a parent, you love your child and want to know what it is that is going on with them. Parents want to know different ways to help their child but cannot help if they do not know what is going on with them. But on the other side of that, sometimes teens do not want to be treated as children by their parents. Sometimes, teens feel embarrassed about how they are feeling and even more embarrassed about explaining those emotions to someone so close in their life. As a
In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet claims to be feigning madness. He decides to fake his madness to reveal the truth of his father’s death. Also, Hamlet does this to protect his own life and get revenge. Hamlet informs his friends that he is going to act crazy, and he acts crazy in the play. Hamlet informs Queen Gertrude that he was never mad. Throughout the play, Hamlet is merely acting mad because he has a clear plan that involves killing Claudius to get revenge for his father’s death.
An outstanding amount of people are affected by Domestic Violence, it can have mental, physical and emotional long term effects on the people directly involved and also on the people who are connected to the victim. It is a long-standing, complex social issue and since the 1990’s there has been a profound transformation in public awareness about this problem. The move towards integrated, multi-agency responses and coordination across government levels is a great positive and with further intervention and emergency towards the issue we may be able to lessen the amounts of domestic violence happening within
The deepest problem with domestic violence is that some cultures do not believe there is such a thing. Domestic violence can be perpetrated in many ways such as sexual abuse, psychological abuse, social abuse, economic abuse and spiritual abuse. Abusers who commit domestic violence do so to control their victim, and maintain that control by threatening the victim’s safety and/or that of people they love. Punishment for cases of domestic violence should be taken into consideration. However, most governments do not consider the cultural background of couples when deciding whether to prosecute reported cases of domestic violence. Furthermore,
An accruing relapse of depression is hard to overcome nevertheless; preventing these relapses is the key. The length of depression constitutes a major problem in the treatment of depression. However, many evidences suggest that psychological treatments have been withdrawn to the many treatment trials that have been found in cognitive therapy such as drugs or different types of therapy that defends against depression. “The preventive interventions such as the drugs operate through effects in changing the patterns of the cognitive processing that becomes active in mild negative side effects” (Teasdale, Segal, & Williams, 1995, p.25).
Domestic violence is a very serious social problem whereby everyone have to concern about this issue. It happens in everywhere and anytime and will cause death and injury too. According to All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), domestic violence happens when a partner, former partner or family member attempts to control and dominate a person through violence, the threat of violence or other means of control such as deprivation (AWAM, 2009).
