At one point, his use of internal rhyme makes the readers question why the the narrator feels a sense of fear when the curtains start to flutter. The author says, “ And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain thrilled me and filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before” (Poe 10). At the beginning of the story, the narrator uses imagery to describe the island: “dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs. What perils that tangle of trees and underbrush might hold for him did not concern Rainsford just Then” (Connell). The imagery is very effective in this scene because the narrator uses words such as “dense” and “tangle,” which clearly illustrate how hard it is to navigate the terrain. The imagery also allows readers to picture General Zaroff’s mansion. The narrator describes what Rainsford sees when he comes across the mansion: “but as he forged along he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building--a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom. His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows” (Connell). By using words such as “lofty” and “enormous,” readers are better able to picture what the mansion looks like. Therefore, imagery is one of the reasons why “The Most Dangerous Game” is a successful short story because it enables readers to picture the setting, which is very important to the plot.

Fear is the feeling of being scared or afraid, or does it mean more? Fear can change someone and make them into a different person. In the book, Fever 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson (2000), shows how fear can change the lives of people. The story is about a 14 year old girl Mattie, who lives in Philadelphia when the devastating yellow fever epidemic of 1793 hits the nation’s capitol. Soon the fever hits her home and Mattie has to leave, enduring many frightening adventures trying to survive. This story illustrates when people are afraid, their fear and sadness can make them lose their sense of identity.

The author uses imagery to interest the reader in her story that may seem mundane without the imagery. An example of this happening is when Jeannette is going to her new school in Welch it was her first day and the teacher picks on her because she did not have to give the school her records to her not having them as that is happening a tall girl stabs her out of nowhere“I felt something sharp and painful between my shoulder blades and turned around. The tall black girl with the almond eyes was sitting at the desk behind me.

Fear, the feeling of dread, apprehension or impending danger, it is a powerful emotion that most, if not all, feel. As a child fear may be of the dark, or as an elder it may be of death and the unknown after. A fear of something can come at any moment in time. It is easy to become afraid, but the hard part is learning to overcome it. As the main characters of the summer reading novels are put into fearful situations, they must learn to cope with it in order to help them survive their hardships.

Fearfulness- Connotative- Blue, Hurt, Escape Denotative- An emotion experienced during pain or danger. this is important because everyone at the beginning or the story had shown fearfulness.

Imagery plays a big part in the success of a novel. Different writers have different styles. The good thing about imagery is it makes room for the reader to put things together. The reader is allowed to interpret the story the way that they like. "Ragged Dick", Horatio Alger, Jr. did a great thing with imagery. While reading the novel readers had a change to envision many things that were mentioned in each chapter. Algar interconnected the appearances of the main character to his living arrangement. He also connected these things with the character's attitude.

I’ve noticed the colorful imagery in other parts of the novel as well. For example, in Part IV, when John Grady is about to cross the border, McCarthy describes, “the sun descending out of the dark discolored overcast to the west where its redness ran down the narrow band of sky above the mountains like blood falling through water and the desert fresh from the rain turning gold in the evening light and then deepening to dark, a slow inkening of the cordilleras darkening far to the south in Mexico” (McCarthy 285-286). In this lengthy and descriptive sentence, McCarthy uses vivid imagery to depict many parts of the scenery. The simile and details help readers visualize the landscape in John Grady’s perspective. Fear is something that is associated with someone who is scared of something and they do not want to be near that thing that is to be feared. Fear is something that someone who is afraid of someone or something. Fear can be presented by emotional pain and physical pain. Fear can also be portrayed in irrational fear which could be someone making fun of you or rational fear which could be fear of walking down an alley at night. Fear is displayed throughout all three poems but in different ways.

Not of life, or death, or nothingness, but of wasting it as if I had never been.” This quote by Daniel Keyes, a famous American author, tells of a man who has a strong fear of not meaning anything in the end. Fear is a different experience for everyone. Some fear the unknown. Others, something as simple as spiders or snakes. Fear, even with its different stressors, has multiple definitions. Fear in its most common form means “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous.” However fear can also be used in the form of something to be overcome. It also has a biblical definition, regarding God with reverence and awe. Fear is in many ways something to be overcome and something unpleasant, but can also show reverence to a higher being, or even be helpful in warning when something is dangerous.

What is fear? The film contains multiple symbols that set the mood of the story and helps to portray what the director wants the viewer to feel. There are plenty of examples that can be found within the film as well as the story. They express the confusion and fear in that Mike was experiencing throughout the film, as well as the written story.
