Continuing Academic Success Bruno Lopez GEN/201 11-17-2014 Justin Lafeen Continuing Academic Success While being responsible for our academic success, prioritizing work to achieve goals can be valuable to students without a success driven mindset. Responsibility and action along with ethics help set the path for proper results and set standards for academic achievement. Critical thinking has an important role in learning and development because if properly executed it allows me to see the entire situation instead of the individual task. I plan to take the necessary actions to determine the task with open eyes and an unbiased approach. Remembering the facts about the situation can help in resolving the issue. Understanding by reiterating the problem can help me further comprehend. Applying then analyzing the tasks and or situations so I can prepare the steps to come to the evaluation. I can see if the resources are accurate and thorough. The last thing I should be able to do to assure my critical thinking skills are complete is a form of creating. I take all the information of this situation, and use it in my final resolution. These steps are crucial in the ability to think clearly and not be clouded by biased information. Advancing in my critical thinking skills is as important as my writing skills. I have to take the appropriate steps in continuing to engage the readers throughout the writing process. Writing is crucial as a student and everyday life because it is a form of communication. I will utilize the necessary resources to assist me in applying the lessons being instructed for completion of each assignment in accordance with the University guidelines. A child's main focus in life has always been being successful in school in order to achieve many riches in adulthood. Many people have supported these children to reach this goal by preparing them for about two decades. In return, their family members expect them that these clueless kids return the favor by going to college. Some have put their immense effort beyond their reach, but unfortunately there is a vast majority of students that do not have what it takes both academically and emotionally to earn a college degree or to even meet their own personal standards. Although they received all the help they could get, their parents forget to even consider that what matters the most for these young adults to go to college is their own willingness
Failure is something that all people encounter in their lives. In some situations failure can break a person or make a person, meaning a person can fail at something and just simply give up. Others will fail and that failure can give them the inspiration to try harder to one day achieve their goal. I'm the type of person to fail and work harder until I am content. As my championship baseball coach would say "What’s our motto? Never give up!"
Critical thinking is described as unbiased, clear and factual thought process that helps any student with any decision-making process. Critical thinking is an essential tool that every student will need to master to continue academic success. There are multiple phases of critical thinking as described by Benjamin Bloom which include remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. The critical thinking process starts by remembering. If we can remember what we read and apply key facts we will be able to move forward to understand what decisions we need to make. From there we can then apply the facts to the decision we have to make and innovate, or create, as needed.
Failure can be a very difficult thing to cope with. It can be something that makes you or breaks you. I have learned that failure is what defines a person; it shows your motivation to bounce back when things get rough. I have learned from my failure instead of dwelling on it and making myself weaker.

I am not new to the idea of failing, but I refuse to accept failure as a mistake I will be remembered by. Through recent experiences I have learned how to react to failure, ask for help, and move on with my life.
Failure, at its core, is a road that leads to success; that leads to achievement. Personally, I never looked at it with that perspective until my second year of high school, where I received my first ever term grade of a C. To me, a C was no better than an F, an absolute failure in every sense of the word. It felt like the end of the world. Even so, within this whirlwind of self-hatred, I learned something that helped me improve little by little: how to make the best of a bad situation.
Ever since I was young, my parents instilled the idea within me that academic success is very important. I’m the first generation in my family to go to college, so obviously, they did well enough to guide me into wanting to do well enough in high school to have the grades to get into NJIT. But academic success is a lot more than merely getting good grades- it’s also about the role it plays in advancing in my future. Failure is how I learn to better myself despite its negative outcome, I always manage to alternate its impact on me because I know that it is only temporary. I have come a long way, before I was the one asking help for problems. Now, people left and right ask my help on things I could care less. However, because I’m a nice person, I take my time out to help them with their problems. My intellectual skills have launched my student life to places I couldn’t have dreamed. Despite my academic success, I have been struggling to balance my academic life over my social life. Sometimes, I feel that one should dominate over the other, preferably the academics over the social. And to complicate the issue, my intuition and determination has caused me to gain attention among others, forcing me to adopt some social skills. Critical thinking is the questioning of ideas. It is the process in which you take an argument and analyze it in order to conclude whether that argument is valid. Thinking critically is a good skill that can help others make intelligent decisions and helps them understand what to believe or not believe. Critical thinking is involved in our daily life. For example, every day we make decisions and before every decision we think critically if that is the right decision. We take into consideration the possible consequences of such decision and from that we reach a conclusion. Critical thinking involves disciplined thinking and it teaches you to think for yourself. It is personal growth and confidence that results from learning to exercise your mind to its fullest potential.

Academic success could never be fully measured by degrees alone, but it can include a person’s well-being as well as their mind and certain characteristics about a person that make them unique. This success can be achieved in different ways by these different people with different strengths, but there is the same ultimate goal in sight of each and every student enrolled in college at some point. However, this goal of being successful in not only school but in life, can sometimes turn out to be the opposite of how we plan. Of course, a student can achieve success by earning degrees and still fail in life.
