Back in 1999 a murder case took place involving two students at Woodlawn High School resulting in the arrest of Adnan Syed. Adnan was the ex boyfriend of victim Hae Min Lee, and was the main suspect as her murderer. This case would have been straight and simple, however, information and allegations made by witnesses and alibi’s led to contradiction and confusion in the courts. With stories told by Jay, Adnan’s friend, and unexplained cellphone records, things became more confusing with each and every new piece of evidence presented. In my opinion there needs to be a retrial due to the fact that the evidence isn’t completely clear and several contradictions amongst the stories. When looking at what people said about Adnan and what kind of
Upon listening to the first episode ''The Alibi,'' Adnan Syed’s story instantly reeled me in.
Zimmerman. Martin. Who really started it? One person died, while another walked free. Who should have been punished? We may never know all the answers to this culture-defining case, but here are the facts as they currently stand:
Officers are just protecting themselves. Tamir Rice a twelve-year-old black boy was shot and killed. Tamir rice of ohio was carrying a toy gun and aimed it at police. He was then shot by the officer(Ochs p3). If a person no matter what age is going to raise a gun at a cop the the cop is going to react by drawing his weapon.John Crawford of ohio was also shot by police. John walked into walmart carrying an air rifle police arrived and told him to put it down he did not so he was shot (Ochs ). If a person is carrying around a gun the police are not going to mess around they are going to take care of the threat. 38-year-old Richard Ramirez was gunned down by police. He was sitting in his car and reached down at his waistband the officer then
On July 17th of last year Eric Garner was stopped by the police to be confronted about selling untaxed loose cigarettes illegally. Eric Garner verbally resisted arrest by arguing with the cops about the terms of his arrest. After bickering for a few minutes the cops proceed to perform a chokehold like maneuver, which acted as a catalyst toward the imminent death that would come of Garner. Prior to Garner’s encounter with Daniel Pantaleo his aggressor and rest of the NYPD cops, he already had several health issues such as diabetes and asthma. Consequently, this sparked a powder key of mammoth proportions, with outbreaks of destructive riots and protests. Furthermore, two notable contrasting interpretations of this controversial case are those
George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch leader, was driving to Target to run a errand on the night of February 26, 2012 when he observed a suspicious person, leisurely walking in the rain, looking at all the houses, wearing a grey hoodie as he would tell dispatch in his 911 call made at 7:09 p.m. Moments later an altercation occurred between Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, which left Trayvon dead from a single gunshot wound to his chest and Zimmerman with a bloody nose and a cut to the back of his head. Zimmerman asserted that the shooting was done in self-defense because he thought Trayvon was reaching for his ( Zimmerman’s ) concealed gun and he feared for his life. Eye witness accounts of the event backed his claim that Trayvon was hitting him, but Rachel Jeantel, who had been on the phone with Trayvon,
Another supporting statement for the prior stated point regarding safety is spoken by Roger Clegg, JD, President and General Counsel at the Center for Equal wrote the following in a June, 2001 National Review:
Orenthal James “O.J” Simpson was an African-American male suspect in the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. They were both found stabbed to death outside Nicole’s condominium in the Brentwood area in Los Angeles. After failing to turn himself in on June 17, he became a victim of a low-speed pursuit in a white Ford Bronco SUV. He was then arrested and sent to trial on October 3, 1995, were the jury’s verdict was “not guilty” for the two murders.
This paper discusses three critical issues in the criminal justice system. It touches on the general issues of punishment philosophies, sentence decision making, and prison overcrowding and focused more specifically on the negative effects of each. Highlighted in this informational paper is the interrelated nature of the issues; each issue affects and is affected by the others. Data and information has been gathered from the FBI Uniform Crime Report, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, Amnesty International, the NAACP Legal Defense
The Omar Khadr controversy has been a topic of debate for years. Ever since his capture, Omar Khadr, who was fifteen when captured, has gone through five different institutions. A Canadian who had his rights and freedoms violated, and one of the most influential people of 2017.
In 1999 a seventeen year old boy named Adnan Syed was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment for the death of Hae Min Lee. In my opinion, this arrest should have never happened as abruptly as it did. Adnan Syed had some evidence against him, but so did many of his peers. Due to this incompetent amount of proof against Adnan Syed, I believe he is innocent.
Jared Loughner committed a horrendous crime on January 8th, 2011. He killed six people, and injured fifteen others. His target was congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. This event has left everyone devastated, and confused. There are many questions, for instance: Why did he wish to commit this act? Will understanding his reasons certify that this will not happen in the future? Does he have a disorder?
Decisions are the basis of human history, advancement, and modern society. Important decisions often cause a conflict within a person as he or she attempts to make a choice based on what he or she believes is right, as well as what he or she believes is wise. Throughout life and society, people find themselves at a crossroads of beliefs or thoughts with the justification of murder. This is due to the dissonance illustrated when they have mixed feelings with the idea that killing another human is wrong, although it seemingly appears unavoidable in certain situations. This inevitability is what justifies murder in the first place. These mixed feelings create a cognitive dissonance that impacts society in a detrimental
A lot of people wonder if Adnan Syed is guilty or innocent, today as a legal assistant I'm going to tell you one important reason why he is innocent. Adnan is not guilty because there is another potential suspect like Jay. Jay's story that "proves" Adnan's guilt, has changed every interview and testimony. Jay had intimate knowledge of the crime he knew things, like if he knew every single thing that Adnan was thinking about which makes everything looked suspicious. Also Jay's stories don't quite match Adnan's cell records.
Steven Avery should get appeal. Because he deserve one. Truth should be found at all the time. Truth can't hide. All the trial was unfair to steven avery.I think he's too strong add it up because what happened to his past that reflect now I think just decide that Steve has to get appeal. Just by watching a video that make me feel like he is not guilty of anything also he should not be in trail. If someone come a talk with you before they die is that mean you kill them or they will have a case on you i think that is not fair and nor right.
America's infatuation with criminal cases and the convictions of convicts set the scene for shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order. My fascination with these cases started when I was a little girl. I would research cases and trials constantly; it is the reason I want to become a criminal lawyer. The fact that one person could be sentenced to life in prison or even death based on the beliefs of 12 people is astonishing. My favorite kind of cases were the high profile ones. The ones that make the people involved really think about the circumstances. I remember sitting on the couch watching some of theses trials go down like the murder of Caylee Anthony. I want to share these cases so people can form their own opinions from the most famous cases around the world.
