Conversation With Homelessness

In the student center on the Marietta campus, I along with a friend of mine, assisted in making sandwiches for the homeless. I observed and 30 fellow students rally together and make 500 sandwiches. This action will help provide food for many homeless citizens.

Homelessness has been a problem in Hawaii, and especially Oahu, for more than two decades. The homeless have overrun the islands but it is no surprise as the circum- stances allow for it. Multiple factors contribute to the ongoing dilemma including the high cost of living, Hawaii being an island state, and the expensive housing. The prob- lems that cause homelessness are not going to go away by themselves. Although the problem is not increasing, the numbers show that it isn’t decreasing and shouldn’t be unless the state and community acts.

For a start, as my social and human capital assignment, I will be focusing on homelessness and the associations it entails. Through exploratory research, via peer reviewed journal articles and one in-person interview, I have collected data to see what social disparities and/or oppression the homeless population face from day-to-day. Furthermore, I had the pleasure of conducting my interview with a 62-year-old chronically homeless male originally from Nigeria. The location of the interview took place at a homeless shelter in Dallas, TX. Through the duration of this assignment, my participating interviewee will be identified as Bingo for confidentiality purposes. Homelessness exists as a prominent issue that plagues society in various ways. It brings about hardship and controversy as individuals struggle to survive on a daily basis. Additionally, this complication tears families apart and ostracizes individuals from a society where they once belonged. A specific problem regarding homelessness consists of lack of interest from bystanders; some of these spectators refuse to even acknowledge homeless individuals sitting at their feet. As homeless people live their lives on street-corners, the more fortunate members of society choose to engulf themselves in their personal problems alone. Displayed by their clothing and accessories, most of these individuals possess the ability to help in some way;

In this paper, I will focus on the topic of why veterans are coming back homeless. Veterans are seen as a savior of the country they are risking their lives for every day, so why is it that they are coming back from tours and service and ultimately ending up homeless? Since 2009 the United States stated that in five years they would end veteran homeless, but the United States is still facing veteran homelessness in the year 2017. Though the homeless rates of veterans have gone down since then, why are veterans still facing homelessness if so many resources are supposed to be available for them. Is there more than meets the eye when it comes to homelessness especially with veterans, yes. Many things can attribute to this continuing issue such as lack of assistances provided, mental illnesses, PTSD, lack or loss of support from being deployed, the use of drugs and alcohol as coping strategies, and the economics.

Southern Nevada’s total homeless rate shot up as unemployment rates continued to rise. This article informs readers of current statistics circulating homelessness compared to other states in the U.S. Amaro cites data from non-profit organizations to demonstrate this critical problem.

Homelessness can be a temporary condition that people fall into in the United States when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home is unsafe or unstable. The estimated amount of homeless people in the United States is about 3 million. (National Alliance to end Homeless) In 2014, there are approximately 578,424 people in a single night that experience being homeless. In my opinion, the United States should have more shelters to help the homeless people instead of spending money on unnecessary things. The three main people groups that are affected by the homelessness are the unemployed, pregnant teens, and veterans.

Have you ever felt strongly about something? There are others who have to, join the cause to help fight the homelessness crisis,, you canmake a difference. The homeless crisis is a worldwide problem that needs to be resolved. It is so bad we have children in unconventional living places such as under bridges, foster homes, and in general outside. We need to solve it efficiently and effectively. Through fundraising foundations, temporary shelters, and last but not least Soup Kitchens we can dramatically reduce homelessness.

Homeless in Baltimore City is a serious issue that must be resolve. There are different types of homeless people: Chronic, transitional and episodic homeless people. However, there are several or multiples reasons for which people become homeless. It could be due to lack of financial incentives or economic reason, immigrants people (students or foreign), a choice of an individual or poverty, housing needs of the lack of low-income housing and other issues such as unemployment, underemployment, domestic violence and divorce. As Policymakers, we will focus on the homeless people in Baltimore and advocates some solutions to end this issue. Although we will suggest some policies and solutions that can be helpful for the homeless people. Baltimore’s homeless population has been increased in recent years. Public, state and local government should be involved and their participation would be required to fulfill those programs. First, the government must assist community and most importantly to ensure that those solutions that they will create are long-term goals. Having a house, a permanent supportive housing is the first solution to resolve for the homeless people. So, the government must take vacant homes in Baltimore city and turn it into affordable permanent housing which will benefit the people because some homeless people usually prefer to be in abandoned building of housing and they are somehow charge with loitering it means a crime with a stiff fines. Homelessness is a critical problem that people need to address here in Chico.The Homeless population in Chico has been discriminated against greatly since I arrived here last August. Whenever I walk to class, I always see a few homeless people sleeping or living in very public places near the Chico State campus in addition to all around the park on a normal day. Also, restricting them from not being able to use the twenty-four hour bathrooms is very uncalled for, I believe that the homeless should have access to every public facility just as every other citizen in

Seven billion people, that is the number of individuals that fill this vast world and 25 percent are homeless. Homelessness does not just transpire overnight, in poor countries, and to adults. This dire circumstance can develop anywhere: from poverty stricken countries to the wealthiest in the world and to people of any generation. Tragically, 30 percent of the homeless population is comprised of children ("HomeAid."). Government and communities need to work together to develop more solutions to elevate homelessness. Simply stated an individual should not be required to beg in order to survive.

The current social welfare issue that I chose to explore is homelessness within Canada. First, this essay will give a brief description of homelessness. Secondly, it will describe how homelessness relates to some concepts and theories that we learned in this course Introduction to Social Welfare, it will also look at what may have happened to people facing homelessness one hundred years ago, next we will explore a possible solution to this social issue and where this fits within the political ideologies. Finally, I will give a brief explanation on whether social media is an effective tool for bringing about awareness regarding social issues.

There's No place like home... unfortunately for many people living in the UK do not have a place they can call home. Every person facing homelessness has ended up there for different reasons, however the lack of help, support and sympathy they get from our government is shameful. Despite rough sleeping being the most visible sign of homelessness, figures based on people living in temporary accommodation with no idea of their future is far more shocking. Over the past seven years those living in temporary accommodation has risen by about two thirds each year which clearly shows the problem is evolving and that our government have let this problem escalate into A national crisis.

There are many factors why we have this issue toward homelessness, like poverty issues, mental and physical problem where they feel not part of society that reflected their problems by not be with the community in one way. But now the there are many approaches that communities and police agencies are taking to address homeliness. The homeless stand down was an eye-opener experience for me. I had the opportunity to interact with several individuals, and one family. Initially I conducted some interviews with them to help complete the questionnaire; and the remainder of the time, I escorted the individuals and helped them choose items that were necessary for them.
