For my service learning project, I had the pleasure of volunteering at both Hope Haven and Brooks adaptive sports. Both organizations are great places known for helping people with disabilities. Hope Haven is an institution that focuses on education and therapy for children and families in need. Their sole mission is “to ensure that children and families realize their full potential by providing specialized services and individualized educational opportunities” (Mission). Hope Havens whole vision is to shape individuals into independent, educated people who are able to function in community life (Missions). Brooks adaptive sports has a very similar mission to Hope Haven, but is more geared toward recreational activities. Their mission is to “Provide individuals with physical disabilities the inspiration, education, training, access and opportunity to participate in a world class adaptive sport and recreation activities” (About).
Company Q is a small local grocery store chain who has made poor decisions when it comes to social responsibility. Company Q’s business is suffering because the owners’ do not know the heart of running a business, Social responsibility. When opening a business it is not all about the money. Sure it is nice to think about growth and reaping the benefits of a bigger bank account, but the first thing that is important in business is the consumers. Who is buying what you are selling? What will make consumers buy more, comeback, or tell friends? Businesses flourish around consumers. So if it is money you are after, then consumers are who you need and want. So in business in order for Company Q to get what they want and need, they will need to give the consumer what they want and need, social responsibility. Give back, it has always been said “It is better to give than to receive.” After careful review of Company Q's business actions, this company lacks social responsibility in many areas.
The organization I volunteered for this project was North Star Community Services. North Star is a non-profit rehabilitative service agency that provides adult day services and supported community living services so individuals with disabilities have a better opportunity to live enriched lives within the community. The organization 's mission statement is “North Star Community Services empowers each person to realize potential, pursue dreams, and enjoy life”. The agency serves people of all different ages, backgrounds and disabilities. From my observation, the adults that I met at North Star dealt a very wide variety disabilities ranging from
Contributing the one million dollars annually to the United Way would be a better choice in terms of ethics and social responsibility. If the company chooses to follow the concept of corporate social responsibility, the donation would allow United Way to keep helping the community. In turn, once individuals from the community are helped, they will later be financially stable to go out and purchase their own vehicles. This strategy will help the community first, while in the long run the automobile manufacturing may profit from this. Also, once the community finds out how involved and socially responsible an automobile company is over another, they will want to support them over an automobile company that isn’t socially responsible. Another
As someone with an interest in volunteering for this cause as well as constantly preparing myself for staring and harassment every time I step out of my wheelchair, what I most desire to accomplish as a member of the Council is to raise acceptance of children with physical or mental handicaps, invisible or visible. It is from this that I would like to gain a better knowledge in civics in order to better advocate for this
Project Unify is an organization that exclusively includes young individuals who have either physical, mental, or a combination of both disabilities. These students, due to their restrictions, are usually unable to participate in activities that most of us are fortunate enough to experience. A select few are paired up
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something that affects all companies and should be an active factor in the company’s decision making. It is something all corporations need to care about. CSR is when business’ or corporations take part in an initiative or campaign for a cause that will benefit society and/or in some way make the world a better place (Taylor, 2015). Initially, Corporate Social Responsibility started to take shape around the 1950’s, but some say that it dates all the way back to the 1800s, the idea of CSR was seen (Carroll, 2007). One may think that because it is dated so long ago, it doesn’t have an important impact today nevertheless, it is proven that Corporate Social Responsibility is a pathway for entities to self benefit as they are in the process of benefitting society.
This is a social service program because the program design is individualizing program participants and focusing on their specific distinctive challenges. This program is a good fit for what the social problem requires because it provides individuals with disabilities access to all local community resources. The addressing of multiple challenges helps this population overcome many barriers. The target efficiently of this program focuses on people with disabilities and their families/caregivers. This program is cost-effective because it charges a nominal fee and it relies on volunteers and staff members to provide transportation for the program participants. However, this program is provided through a non-profit agency and funding sources could
I am interested in this program because I feel that it will allow me to further develop my skills as advocate for individuals with disabilities as well as gaining an understanding of other important issues that we face as a global society.
The main issue was to provide assistance to students with special needs as well as other students at UCP Bailes. I accomplished my S.M.A.R.T. goals by learning the names of the students. I helped developed learning techniques to help the students succeed by instructing students with math
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) is a term describing a company’s obligation to be accountable to all of its stakeholder in all its operation and activities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the intention of the companies to do the right things and act in certain ways that are good for the company, society and environment. CSR was accelerated in 1970 (Archie B, 2006) and took into account since there was a concern between the increased population and scarce resources. It was established in order to ensure that the global development is sustainable. There are three fundamental aspects of sustainability, economic progress, communities’ relationships and environmental protection. This essay will report the managerial skills, leadership style and management practises in leading and managing an organisation to promote better and greener environment. Considerable research has been undertaken on Toyota Motors Corporation.
