Health education and knowledge plays a vital role in improving patient’s quality and longevity of life. Regardless of one’s profession education should be a part of the job to promote health and disease prevention. According to Snyderman (2014):

State and federal government agencies establish operating standards and, grant licensure to professionals who have attained applicable expertise as required by government mandates (Bowblis & Lucas, 2012). Health organizations often encourage members to attain certifications as a prerequisite to licensure or as an alternative. Educational requirements are often a precursor to obtaining certification and licensure; however, being credentialed is not a guarantee of an individual’s qualification to effectively provide patient care. The ultimate purpose of credentialing in health care (e.g., licensure, certification, and education) is to promote the provision of effective and efficient quality in patient care (Reif, Torres, Horgan & Merrick, 2012).

The idea of competencies has been an evolving matter. In the 1970’s, a man named David McClelland considered that amplitude tests were not sufficient forms of testing ability. Instead, he concluded that core competencies were the best way to confirm knowledge, abilities, skills, traits, and motives (Garman, & Johnson, 2006). In 1997, the Industrial/Organizational Psychologists were commissioned to study the science of how to design common core competencies this design has been adopted by many Advance Nurse Practice degrees. This has lead to other organizations and alliances designing competency modeling. To which Advanced Nurse Practice Degrees have adopted. Especially and more recently, among with administration/ executives.
