I have a strong passion for learning, which is the reason why I’m attending Saint Leo University to further my education. During the first semester of my freshman year, I was undecided if the major of Criminal Psychology best suited me. However, as the year progressed I decided to major in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Criminalistics and a minor in Psychology. Now in my spring semester, I’m currently enrolled in the Introduction to Law and the Legal System course. In taking this class I’m able see my eagerness to learn about the justice system and the laws that protects our constitutional rights as humans. Also, it allows me to see how deep of a passion I have for this particular area of study. On the other hand, I have been interested in psychology after taking the AP Psychology class in my senior year. Taking that particular class gave me the opportunity …show more content…
Actually, I’m interested in gaining a career as an FBI Behavioral Analyst. This particular position will allow me to recognize the behavior of individuals who threaten the public safety and stop the recreations of violent crimes. With being a Behavioral Analyst, I can get the opportunity to figure out the reasons why people commit crimes, whether it’s because of horrifying childhoods or the lack of psychological stability within the mind. In order to understand why crimes are being committed, an individual have to evaluate the criminal background, behavioral traits and any disorders that may cause them to think differently from the average human beings. Once a person gets to understand how criminals think and their behavior, it can lead to a decrease of crime rates. Also, in order to have a job as a Behavioral Analyst, a person must be familiar with the field of psychology because it allows you to get into the mind of the criminal and make sense of the way they think of
Today our world is filled with crime. The people committing these crimes must have a consequence for their illegal actions. The system in place to keeping everything fair and safe is called the criminal justice system. This was put in place to ensure there is fairness and justice served to people who break the laws set up by the government.
In addition to education, is the importance of training in this field. It takes specialized qualifications to have the ability to do this job. In the column “Criminal Psychologist Career: Job Duties, Skills, and Education,” the author writes about some of the qualifications needed to do this job. “Criminal psychologists must be adept at communicating effectively with others, including listening actively, and empathically. As a result, they must be experts in psychology, law, and oftentimes forensics as well,” (“Criminal Psychologist Career: Job Duties, Skills, and Education” 3). The people who decide to work this job must have the ability to listen and communicate with the criminals set before them. When the need arises the
One of my favorite shows on T.V is “Criminal Minds,” show stories of the existence of the FBI’S Behavioral Analysis Units and how expert profilers work with the FBI to search and capture rapists, serial killers that terrorize society. However, after watching a number of episodes, one can’t help but question or wonders if what they watching are real. In the real world, every day in the United State law enforcement officers is called to respond to horrify murder scenes. What is the mission of the Behavior Analysis Units? “The mission of the Behavioral Analysis Units (BAU) is to provide operational support for difficult and time-sensitive cases and other matters through the application of investigative case experience, education, specialized
Senior year was quickly approaching and I still had one more spot left. I was indecisive about what other class I should add into my schedule. I researched a little and decided on AP Psychology. Little did I know how much I would come to enjoy the subject. From the beginning, I was interested in the psychology. Studying the way the brain works and why people behave the way they do have been topics I’ve been curious about before. Psychology is a subject unlike any other that I’ve studied before. Psychology studies the human mind and behaviors. It provides answers or theories of why people behave certain ways. It also includes bits of biology and and statistics, so the knowledge in other subjects help me understand it more. As I learn more about
Criminal Minds does not give the viewer an honest depiction of how the FBIs Behavioral Analyst Unit go about profiling the offender. This specifically can be understood when watching season six episode ten of Criminal Minds the BAU unit is tasked with fining the unsub responsible for murdering three women in a housing complex. In this episode, they fail to properly depict profiling in 3 major ways, they never start by asking the question “why?”, they make many assumptions about the profile and possible offender, and lastly, they took on responsibilities that should be left to local law enforcement.
As a child, if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, and I answered a lawyer undoubtingly. Once my parents denied signing any of my financial aid forms for school, all of my optimism for that dream went downhill. One thing that has always been consistent is my love for fighting for what is right for the people. My passion for the law and people aided my decision to join the military. Upon my retirement from the military, I was compelled to enroll in the Criminal Justice program at Saint Leo University. After attending a few courses, I deliberated on becoming a forensic psychologist. I believed that becoming a forensic psychologist would allow me to be involved in legal cases while being the eyes and the ears of the courtroom. As time went on I pondered, if I would be helping people or the court system. Now, my interest in the subfields of psychology lies between forensics and counseling. I am not as knowledgeable in either area, so I plan on taking a course in each class to see what feels right. Being in the military all these years, have made me desire to do what my instincts say I was born to do.

Once I decided to continue my education I begun seeking colleges here in New Orleans. I always worked in the law enforcement field so I decided to major in Criminal Justice. I am applying to Sacramento State University for admission to the Master’s program in Criminal Justice. I am particularly interested in Criminological Theory, Law Adjudication, and Administration of Justice. My interest in helping others, especially in the community in which I live in, goes back to when I started school. This interest has only grown through my years in high school and college. Having volunteered and participated in internships with various law enforcement agencies, I have been exposed to the dynamic elements of criminal justice.

Nowadays more than ever people must work together to reach a shared goal of world peace and unity, even though we all come from various backgrounds and upbringings .Through my studies in the United States I have come to conclusion that the world has shrunk in its size. That is, every person has the opportunity to travel and reach their full potential, and as an international I can fully relate. I decided to pursue a higher education in the United States for the sole reason of a diverse learning opportunities there, specifically majoring in Criminal Justice with concentration in Pre-Law, and later picking up a minor in Political Science. The combination of both broadened my worldview and overall knowledge of current events.
The assignment is based on a scenario that I have been hired as a consultant by the local police commissioner to lend my expertise on criminal justice research. On the other hand this is for educational resources for the police captains who will be developing a new citywide crime prevention strategy. In addition to the resources that will be discussed are the key differences between deductive, inductive, grounded, and axiomatic research theories. However, there are differences and similarities between the theories and hypothesis that will also be discussed. Defining the theory is more valid then the other and what are variables will also be included in
The process of inferring the personality characteristics of individuals responsible for committing criminal acts has commonly been referred to as criminal profiling. (Turvey) Criminal profiling can also be referred to as, behavioral profiling because when a profiler creates a profile they refer to the behavior of the offender. Modern criminal profiling is owing to a diverse history grounded in the study of criminal behavior (criminology), the study of mental illness
When a crime is committed against another person, then justice must be served to those who committed the crime. In some cases the crimes involve sexual attacks on grown adults while some offenses are against minors. In these examples the underling connection is the committed crimes of sexual abuse or sexual assault on adults and minors. When these crimes are brought before the justice system they are processed and the convicted are given a sentence to carry out but sometimes those sentences may not provide efficient time to produce the required outcome of correcting the individual or may be determined that there is no fixing the convicted disorder. This paper will describe my understanding of the text and of the lectures provided in the class. Unlike most classes, where I understood only my view of the text, this class was geared so each student would understand each other’s view. 3 An organization is a collective that has some boundary and internal structure that engages in activities related to some complex set of goals.
