I define myself as a curious researcher and reflective practitioner who perceives legal education as a combination of passion and practicality. Whereas my idealistic side wants to thoroughly understand the development of global legal ethics, my pragmatic side asks what actions should be taken by lawyers to solve international legal problems. Hence, Penn Law’s core strengths in providing a remarkably interdisciplinary learning experience and the program of Legal Practice Skills will be the bridge to my academic and professional aspirations.

I have known Mr. Jerry Watson since 2000. At that time, he was reacquainting himself with civilian life after retiring from the twenty-plus years of service to our country as an Army Pilot. Mr. Watson has been employed by the Alaska Department of Corrections for over fifteen years and has become the invaluable professional spokesman of the justice system during this time. Moreover, Mr. Watson has maintained a substantial achievement performance. This is apparent, he has successfully occupied every available position within his facility. From Floor Officer to Assistant Superintendent, has progression was not stopped by his ability, but, because he could not fill an occupied position. From his professional presentations given at tours of the facility to his on the record testimonials given as an expert witness, he is skilled in engaging all audiences. I’m as confident in his abilities. Moreover, the State of Alaska, Department of Corrections has placed in a position that requires knowledge, skills, ability, and patients. All of which could benefit you.

As a child, I always wanted a career enforcing the law. Weather it was with the police department or criminal justice was undecided at that time. As I grew older I pulled more to the fence of criminal justice. Simply because I do not like the way the system is set up.

We are aware that many people find themselves in jail for crimes they did not commit. Beyond this, we believe that everyone deserves a fair right of hearing before justice is served. Our view of our service extends beyond our client to their loved ones. We know the stigma, trauma and pain that can come on anyone when their loved ones are incarcerated. We keep things well worked to ensure that their rights of freedom are upheld.

The probation service also offers information and support to victims of sexual or violent incidents.

In my course of study at Ashford University, which began in February 2016, I have gained knowledge about all three areas of the criminal justice system; law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. The required resources; course textbook, articles, multimedia sources, and suggested websites provided material that enhanced my understanding of how each component of the justice system operates, their stated goals, and historical background. In addition, the interactive discussion boards offered an opportunity to get different perspectives from my peers who have experience in the field and shared those experiences, as well as, feedback and viewpoints from peers who had limited exposure to the system.

In order to meet these goals, I have decided to attend Harding University and to pursue a degree in Psychology. This degree will best prepare me for the pursuit of a law degree because I will be exposed to complex theories, thought processes, personalities, and the study of mental illnesses which can be a precursor to criminal behavior. This will allow me to have some understanding and compassion for even the criminals I may be putting behind bars. I believe having a firm grasp on the human thought processes will also prepare me for the variety of people that I will be dealing with in my career, as well as what people go through mentally during times of loss, grief, and suffering, much of which is frequently seen by prosecutors. I also believe that this major will involve considerable amounts of research as well as the further development of professional writing skills, both of which will be crucial in law school. I will also be pursuing a minor in Criminal Justice, which will provide the basics of Criminal law, criminal procedure, the thought processes of criminals and those who are mentally disturbed, how the court system functions for both adults and juveniles, and how crime scenes and evidence are processed and admitted into court proceedings. After I graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, I plan to attend law school and specialize in Criminal Law. I

I get asked, on a regular basis: “Why the big jump? Why go for a second bachelors after I had already finished one bachelors?” “Of all the bachelors I could have picked to be my second focus, why criminal justice?” My answer is simple: I want to be part of my daughter’s and others safety. The reason I have chosen to further my education in Criminal Justice is because I would like to become an FBI agent. I’m a single mother of two beautiful girls and the road thus far was not easy. Having to put school on hold due to several medical issues, that’s all in the past as we speak. I would like to continue to be the best role model for my children. I need to make a better foundation for them.

I have decided to take this summer course in Criminal Justice because I’ve always has a strong interest in the subject. You seem like a compassionate individual that is active among the career you’re trying to accomplish. I never heard of Students against Destructive Decision (SADD). I had to look it up once I read it. That’s great that the program focuses on teens. It’s important to make sure that the youth aren’t ignored. In our lives, we have to make important choices, and sometimes our choices determine our happiness or sadness. As a Filipino, our families tell us to do well in school and to not make bad choices because they want us to be successful and to have ethical morals. Growing up as a Catholic, I was taught to be obedient and respectful to my family which has shaped who I am today. Yet, I too made some mistakes, and I learned from the consequences. From my failures, I learned to not belittle myself, but to grow.

I have a wide range of skills and knowledge that I have acquired throughout my personal and professional life. I can communicate with different types of people regardless of age, race or class. I have accessed a huge range of courses that have enabled me to develop interpersonal skills including negotiation and dealing with different types of people and personalities. I also have the knowledge, drive and enthusiasm to work alone when required as I am self-motivated and can meet targets and deadlines. I believe that challenges are best met positively by developing and improving knowledge and skills and through professional reflective dialogue that leads to change. I am very hard-working and reliable. I work well under pressure achieving a high standard of work. I have practical and organisational skills and I can find solutions to problems and face challenges confidently.
