The rapidly increasing rates of obesity are often linked to a high calorie diet and little to no physical activity. Although obesity is seen as a disease that affects a person’s weight, it actually affects a lot more than that. Obesity can affect individuals in both adolescence and adulthood, their families, and the healthcare system. From an outside viewpoint, obesity looks like a disease that careless, inactive people develop. Not always is this the case. Obesity is not a disease that affects solely the weight of a person. To be considered obese, your BMI (body mass index) would have to be 30 or higher. Almost 70 percent of Americans are either overweight or obese. Not only does obesity affect the weight of a person, it can also lead to increased risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep apnea, and many other things. Questions posed on this dreadful disease by many people are on the origin of the disease, the effects and exponential growth of the disease, and the actions that are being taken to help provide a healthier environment for Americans and to establish programs and preventative methods across the country to help fight the ever increasing obesity rate.

The consumption of alcohol as a habitual behavior has long been associated with the American collegiate experience, despite the many known negative consequences a student who partakes in drinking can encounter. Because of the danger drunken students pose to a college’s reputation and the safety of its surrounding areas, much research has been done concerning the collegiate party and drinking scenes. This research mostly studied the demographics of the student body, so strategies developed to curtail the illegal or overconsumption of alcohol could be targeted towards the specific groups that demonstrated the highest likelihood of participating in these acts. When the strategies were implemented, however, there was little decline in the number of college students who chose to party and drink (Vander Ven 2011). Obesity in America is a big problem which nearly 78 million adults and 13 million children are facing. The life style of Americans these days is a big reason of obesity. Some of the reasons of obesity in American adults and children are increased availability of packaged food, lack of exercise, hours of sitting in the jobs, use of television, computers and phones (Weintrub, 2011).

For a start, obesity is a medical case where the calculations of people’s weights are over than the normal weight that is given depending on their heights. It can cause various diseases, which can result to a short life span (“Overweight and Obesity”, 2012, para. 1). Obesity in Indonesia doesn’t only happen in the capital city but also in rural areas. According to Health Ministry research, the percentage of ¬overweight adults has increased from 12 percent to 21 percent from 2007 to 2010 (Irin, 2013). The Health Ministry released another research and it was found that 14 percent of 5 year olds Indonesian children were overweight. Followed by 9.2 percent of obese children from the age range of 6 to 12 (Sagita, 2011a). Even though Indonesia got 4th place with the lowest obesity rates on the list compared to other Asian countries (“Obesity Rates”, 2013), it still raises concern because of high population growth.

Such groups typically are known for excessive binge drinking and partying. Students are also influenced to drink to make sure they “ fit in” with a specific cluster of individuals.
