The Cameroonian music performances took me back to Africa and the early times when music was so simple and meant something. The evolution of music was brought to us as we experienced the Lions band which is a group of young Cameroonians who live in the US perform a variety of music with what is known as the most sophisticated instrument in music today. Comedians were also highlighted as a form of art and culture. Many performances from many different eras were scheduled. Theater was well represented during that event because it brought to life Africa and is way of life to America.
Cultures continue to change and grow as many factors contribute to this change and growth. That Cameroonian Festival was a classic example of this growing of the cultures. Performers were young and old, male and female, as well as from different walks of life. I witness the evolution of dance, art and music as I watch the different performances.
In conclusion, the All Cameroonians Cultural Festival was an event like no other that I have attended before. In encompasses many different forms of art, including theater, music and dance. Many Cameroonian and African cultures were represented allowing us to experience what life is like in Cameroon and
The music performance I went to see was the University Symphony Halloween concert held in Comstock Concert Hall. This was the first time I had been to a symphony production and was eager to see what was in store. The show started off with each part of the orchestra introducing themselves in different costumes and skits. For example, the cellos were dressed in camouflage and the tubas were dressed as sheep. After a long introduction the lights dimmed and the show started. Attending this performance opened my eyes to how many elements there really were to music. It also showed me how each specific element has its own specific roll and impact on each performance.
Community development involves changing the relationships between ordinary people and people in positions of power, so that everyone can take part in the issues that affect their lives. It starts from the principle that within any community there is a wealth of knowledge and experience which, if used in creative ways, can be channeled into collective action to achieve the communities' desired goals.
The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
The study of past events and changes in the development, transmission, and transformation of cultural practices.
The foundation of human development, responds to the breakdown of its commitment to the development of attitudes and skills, which facilitate authentic personal, spiritual, and social development and the transformation throughout an individual’s life span. During an individual’s life span, the foundations of human development begin to change, as the direct result of the social environment. Contact within the social environment, such as various relationships with others, causes growth and change in human development. The understanding of culture and the importance of cultural competency are
A debate ensures on a proper definition of Africana and it extends to culture. There are discrepancies between various Africana Studies scholars on the exact definition. Wade Nobles, defined culture as “a general design for living and patterns for interpreting reality.” Based on the Kawaida Theory of culture, he describes culture as a “scientific construct” and explains it in a tertiary model. In the first two levels, it includes behaviors or patterns that are developed in reality. Furthermore, he defines the two levels; the primary consist of what he calls “cultural factors” and the secondary level as “cultural aspects”. The third level involves expressing the behaviors such as language or ideas. That is where the differences in culture can
The life experience during the kid’s time is one of most important time in the life. I have learned this by the hard way. When people looking for how should their kids to learn, I think people should pay more attention to what are their kids learning. Times are changing, the old thought of teaching might not fit in today anymore. I am always hoping one day today’s student could teach kids, because today’s student knows more about what kids like, what should kids know at this time of the day. SEU’s CCU class’s Cultural Engagement Assignment have given me a chance to see my childhood dream in life. I have decided to go one of the activity on Saturday. I have gone three times, first time I want is because I have to; the second time I want is because I like it and I want to do something I can to help the kids, also I want to know about the kids grow up in the family that not so good. Before I want the activity, my understanding of “Cultural Engagement,” is the connection between the people and the cultural, but after I want the activity, my understanding of “Cultural Engagement” has changed, it became what kind of culture for the kids have been growing up have affected to their dream and behavior. I will never forget a point that so many pastors have mentioned - Christians should never need to tell others that they are Christian but people should able to tell that we are Christian. As being Christian, we need to show the love to others and share the God’s words and
Central Idea: Festival culture has transformed into a global phenomenon that began in the 50s-60s.
John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Mike Lang were the minds behind the creation of these “Three Days of Peace and Music”, the oldest of which was only 27. This festival, and all the music played during this time, was extremely influential. Americans at this time needed a weekend of peace, for tension was high. At this time Nixon was threatening to bomb North Vietnam, over 35,000 U.S. military personnel have died in the line of duty, and communism was terrifyingly close to America. Friends and family were overseas, and this music festival was a way to spread the idea of peace and love through a medium that was understood by all: music. This festival would not have occurred if it was not for the high tensions and influence of countureculture through popular music at the time.
A cultural event that I have attended in the past that has had a memorable affect on my life was a Native American Powwow. This event takes place every year, Thanksgiving weekend in Tucson, AZ. I arrived in the late afternoon, as the sun was going down. I remember seeing many different types of people, from tourists to the different Native American performers. The physical setting of this particular celebration was outside, and based around, one main circle. Drums were beating so loud, you could feel the pound inside your chest. Different activities were going on all around, such as dancers, vendors, and a huge variety of foods to choose from. The circular dancing arena is known as the arbor, this area is blessed before any of the events
The African Music and Cultural Festival celebrates its eagerly annual return to Federation Square. This is the largest annual African festival in Australia showcasing vibrant music, dancing, diverse arts, cultural performances and authentic African food that transports visitors to Africa.
Reading the second half of Yoruba Girl Dancing one thing I enjoyed most was the description of the many different cultures that Remi was forced to live amongst. These cultures included the European culture of the upper class Nigerian in Lagos, the culture of being at the private school, the working class British culture, the lifestyle of Germans who wanted well and the culture of the well off Nigerians in London. Remi was able to successfully journey her way through each of these different worlds and it was awfully impressive how she did. Although Remi made it through I was surprised at how some of the adults
Culture is the totality of learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects, and behavior. It includes ideas, values, and artifacts of groups of people (Schaefer, 2006). Understanding culture can be tricky, ever ask “why do people act the way they do?”, “what made me do that”, “what was I thinking?” Physical abilities, educational background, and social background of how I was raised are important aspects of my life. The environment in which I was raised is very important aspect of my life.
A cultural event that I think conveys deep meaning is basketball. This cultural event symbolizes teamwork. A person can’t just go into a basketball game thinking that they will do everything. A person can’t carry the whole team because at one point the pressure will get to them. Playing as a team, everyone has one goal in mind and that is to win as a team. You have to keep passing to your teammates until there is an opening and whoever is open is the person that should score. I know this cultural event conveys deep meaning because I have seen people to try to go out on their own and it just doesn’t work. When a person plays with the team, they can see that everything is easier. You have to rely on your teammates and hope for the best. I learned
Ultra Music Festival (UMF) is a yearly open air electronic music celebration that happens in March in the city of Miami, Florida, United States (DURAN, 2013).In this report I have analysed about the ultra-Miami festival event in USA and what is behind the success of the event. Events rarely succeed or fail it is totally depending on the scheduling and who all are the stakeholders are supporting the particular event. For a successful event there are several potential goals to satisfy and a plethora of stakeholders to involve (Presenza, 2012). Festivals are mostly unique in the events sector how the stakeholders are involved in the events. Media is mainly involved in a group way in television and
