A current social justice issue in Australia is Racism. Racism may not be as bad as it used to be but it is still counted as a current social issue. The current social justice issues can display a lot of Inequity factors. Especially if we would be focusing Indigenous People when referring to racism. The following Issues included in the social justice issue is;
Racism can really affect your personal life through employment, income, law and justice.
A range of health problems can occur from experiences of racism such as high blood pressure, depression and anxiety can all be caused by racism
The population is another big target that is affected due to the social justice issue. This can occur from low birth rate and premature births.

It can cause death, injury or mental health illnesses that are huge reasons to pay attention to. Individuals’ lives are being affected and as a public health issue, preventative measures need to be taken place, and that measure would include fighting the presence of racism in the healthcare industry. Even if it can’t be completely abolished, there will be a difference in numbers no matter how small, because that in in itself is on a positive slope with the right measures taking
Racism can impact victims in ways that affect their health and well-being, biopsychosocially. The effects of racist-incidents to mental
Social justice issues can affect people in many different ways. It often depends on what the issue is. For example, if the issue is bullying, then people could get depressed or insecure and they could feel afraid to go to school and going out at all. However, if the issue is refugees or Asylum seekers then that could be quite different. Asylum seekers are people who are seeking international protection but whose claim for refugee status has not yet been determined. An asylum seeker must be outside of their country of origin in order to lodge an application for protection. The United Nations estimates there are 42.5 million people displaced by persecution and conflict around the world. These people become refugees, asylum seekers and internally
Social injustice is an issue that can take on many forms. Social injustice is a problem worldwide. An example of people protesting social injustice is NFL players kneeling for the National Anthem. Many players decided to kneel but that was generally frowned upon and a lot of players stopped doing this. The first player to do this was Colin Kaepernick, Kaepernick said the reason he was kneeling was because “I am not going to stand up to show pride to a country that oppresses black people and people of color” (Wyche). He eventually lost his job over it. He said that he was doing this as a protest against social injustice, but eventually his original reason for kneeling was lost.
Racism may also adversely affect mental health status through the subjective experience of discrimination. Recent qualitative studies and journalistic accounts reveal that blacks experience discrimination in a broad range of contexts in society and that these incidents can induce considerable distress. Some studies have found that exposure to discrimination in the laboratory setting leads to cardiovascular and psychological reactivity among blacks. Similarly, some epidemiological studies have found that exposure to racial discrimination was positively related to elevated levels of blood pressure in blacks although this association has not always been found.
Undoubtedly, health care is a social justice issue, because it is the product of unequal distribution of wealth and health care resources. Associatively, Barusch (2015) claims that in the United States, “the distribution of health care makes life itself a social justice issue and survival becomes a function of privilege, as class, race, and gender influence the risk of becoming ill and the likelihood of receiving appropriate treatment” (p.193). In my opinion, there are many reasons health care should be addressed as a social justice issue; 1) poor health is often the product of the “deprivations of severe poverty”, 2) without legislation, disease of epidemic proportions will go unreported due to their economic impact, 3) physician incentive plans jeopardize patient care, 4) the lack of pharmaceutical company regulations, limit the availability of affordable treatments (generics), . . .
Fear and cruelty are the weapons of animals, not humanity, and social injustices derive from fear-the masked ego of one who has sustained through power: white power. It is only fair to continue to talk about social injustice by defining what is social justice. Social justice embodies a framework (and certainly not limited to) a community, a united nation, equitable in standing together in belief and acceptance of diversity; equality; freedom; and equal opportunity to income and its privileges. Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States of America proclaims that "a house divided cannot stand." I believe President Lincoln is correct with his statement, if the "house" is not endowed in a universal cause and foundation, then the infrastructure is faulty and will collapse. Here is how this connects to social justice, if that same "house" is not socially just, separation will impel and will cause dilapidation within the foundation. This paper will implement foci on Michelle Alexander 's (The New Jim Crow) approach of the social issue of a "new Jim Crow" system of mass incarceration in a colorblind society, and Barbara Ehrenreich 's (Nickle and Dimed) notion to the social injustice that derives from a capitalistic driven society that undermines the working lower-class men and women. With the forth
A social issue (social problem) refers to an issue that others recognize as a problem within society. Different social problems in our culture include but are not limited to cultural discrimination, poverty, social inequality, racial discrimination, and urbanization. Social inequality refers to a lack of social equivalence, where individuals in a society do not equal one another because of their communal status. Sometimes when social inequality takes place inherently discrimination, prejudice, and racism take place. Each of these issues differ from one another but the commonality is the mistreatment of an individual based on the individual characteristics either physical or personality. Social inequality includes issues such as voting rights, freedom of speech, and unequal distribution of income/wealth. Society is organized by social hierarchies based on class, race, and gender.
Racism also contributes to psychological and physical health problems. For example Indigenous populations have higher alcohol and drug consumption rates and poor nutritional intake (Dragon & Anderson, 2011). Additionally, Indigenous populations have poor mental health issues (Happell, 2013a; Happell, Cowin, Roper, Lakeman & Cox, 2013b). These physical and psychological issues all contribute to the high morbidity and high mortality rates in Indigenous populations (Happell, Cowin, Roper, Lakeman & Cox, 2013a; Happell, Cowin, Roper, Lakeman & Cox, 2013b).
Social justice is defined as “justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society” (Oxford Dictionaries). In reality, social justice is so much more than its definition. It is the goal of equality attained through fair and unbiased treatment of the population. The United States of America has not reached this level of equality. Because of this, in order to attain true social justice, fair and unbiased treatment may require more than simply the same treatment. This makes the concept of social justice more complicated, as it extends through due processes of the law, human rights among minority races and gender. Social justice includes basic necessities, standards and rights that should be extended to all (Vasquez 2012). Social justice is an area that some countries, such as ____, would consider Americans to be privileged in. However, Americans, especially those who have never experienced social injustice tend to be blind to many social injustices that happen everyday in America.
Social injustice is quite possibly the sneakiest and most infamous crime in all of the world. A crime that is committed right under the noses of innocent people, but do these people even know what a social injustice is? Social justice is the concern for human rights and whether or not these rights are equally distributed to people of different cultures, religions, social status, and gender. Social injustice occurs whenever human rights are stripped from the public. A social injustice that was particularly prominent was the cholera outbreak of 2010 in Haiti. This social injustice involved a legal dispute trying to assume money to help victims of the cholera outbreak, but was shut down due to
A social problem I consider to be very critical as of the 21st century would be hate crimes, a hate crime is a violent act against people, property, or organizations because of the group to which they belong or identify with. Hate crimes are committed against many different groups of people. Some hate crimes are crimes against property, such as vandalism and destruction of stores, buildings, and places of worship. While other bigger acts of hate crimes are attacks against people. Hate crimes against individual people can be as petty as simple such as assault without a weapon, but can also be very serious as in the case of rape or murder.
The most common forms of discrimination are racial remarks, slurs, being called insulting names and being the butt of hurtful jokes. Studies have found that discrimination, racism and harassment may have significant mental and physical health consequences such as frustration, stress, anxiety, depression, possible nervous breakdown, or high blood pressure that can cause heart attacks. Effects of discrimination physically and
Racism, wherever it occurs, has damaging effects. It can be defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race (Oxford dictionary). It can occur on individual, internal,or institutional levels, and it can be either subtle or obvious (Jones,2000). Research confirms that racism is still prevalent in today’s society, in 2013 the Australian Human Rights Commission received a 59 per cent increase in complaints about racial hatred and vilification compared to the previous year. Racism can also affect physical health, life expectancy, and social cohesion. Evidence suggests that discrimination and racism are linked to a range of adverse health conditions, including poor mental health and wellbeing in children aged 1 to 15 years (Mitchell, 2014).
Social justice is that status of the society where “equity” and “just treatment” of individuals exists. It is not limited to safeguarding the rights but also comes with responsibility to maintain a “society for all” providing equal opportunities. A socially just society can be achieved after examining the inequalities and seeking opportunity to curb the same by total elimination. The concept of social justice varies with the different philosophical approaches about the distribution or allocation of resources.
