I had a lot of “ums” in the beginning when we were thinking about rules and just talking with the class. When I started teaching the lesson’s real material, they were a less regular. This is most likely because I was trying to think of rules and used the “ums” as filler while I thought. Because of this, however, I am not sure why I didn’t use more “ums” in the math, for that was more complicated to explain and I had to think more on my feet for that section.
b. How much time do you provide students to answer questions after you ask them?
i. I did not need to wait that long for students to answer, the class was responsive when I asked something. In an actual classroom, however, I know this won’t always be the case. Wait time allows students to think and process what is being said and asked. I need to be comfortable in the silence as I wait for students to think. This is something I will keep in mind as I move forward as a teacher candidate and teacher.
c. Discuss the pace of your talking, especially during information heavy portions.
i. The pace was quick, for I would get an answer from a student and keep going. As mentioned by you and a peer, I need to take it slower to allow students to digest the information more. This is a hard concept to master and comprehend, heck, all math is challenging, so I really need to consider my pace and how I’m conveying the information with
