The concept to play games on Thanksgiving Day dates back to 1876 with the idea that most people have the day off from work. The tradition for Dallas Cowboys fans since 1966 has been turkey, company, and football. The icing on the cake for these games is a Cowboys win. Dallas is the one of the two teams to consecutively host these games.

With this tradition, I thought it was only fitting to discuss three memorable Thanksgiving Day games with the Dallas Cowboys win. Two of the top three games were impressively won by the Dallas Cowboys backup quarterbacks, this helped these plays make the list.

Number Two: 1974-- Cowboys 24, Redskins 23 The game is known as the “Clint Longley Game” when he came in as back-up quarterback when Roger Staubach was injured by the Redskins early in the game. With the Dallas Cowboys trailing 23-17 with little time left in the 4th quarter, Longley found an open Pearson for a 50 yard touchdown pass; therefore Dallas won 24-23. This dramatic win with the odds stacked against the Cowboys has yet been beaten as the greatest moment in the Thanksgiving day series.
Number One: 1994-- Cowboys 42, Packers 31 Tables are turned in this Thanksgiving Day game with Jason Garret behind center and not under the headphones and plays. This game today is known as the “Jason Garrett Game” because this was not only a great Thanksgiving Day game, but a memorable game in the franchise history. With injuries to starting quarterback Troy Aikman and backup quarterback Rodney Peete, entered third-string Garrett. At the half the Packers led 17-6 and there did not seem to be much hope for Dallas; however things quickly changed in the second-half when the Cowboys scored 36 points in the final two quarters. Garret connected with Alvin Harper for a 45 yard touchdown followed by a 36 yard touchdown to Michael Irvin and a 63 yarder to Emmitt
