“Answering a text takes away your attention for about five seconds. Traveling at 55mph, that's enough time to travel the length of a football field.” (CDC). This statistic shows that you are moving when you text and drive, you are moving at a rate that can cause a fatal accident. You shouldn’t text and drive because you can die from getting in a car crash. Another reason why it is harmful is you can accidentally kill another person for such a senseless act. People texting may not view this as harmful because today’s cars have hands free technology, but this technology has not fixed the problem. The final reason why texting while driving is harmful is because it is worse than driving under the influence. In conclusion texting while driving should be avoided. When you text and drive it may seem that there is no danger of getting into a car accident. This is actually not the case. When you text and drive you have the chance of dying from a car crash. According to this Texting and Driving Statistics, “Nearly 330,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving.” (Snyder). This shows that because of texting and driving there have been many injuries. Some injuries can lead to death. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention states, “Each day in the United States, approximately 9 people are killed and more than 1,000 injured in crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver.” (CDC).
