Executive Summary De Havilland is a Canadian aviation company that is in the process of determining how to contract out the supply of its flap shrouds and equipment bay doors for its Dash 8 aircraft. Its current supplier, Dollard Plastics is believed to be charging a large premium over market price and for that reason, a completive tender was issued to test De Havilland’s hypothesis. After receiving bids from 9 companies, a strategic review of De Havilland’s options and alternatives was conducted. Based on this review, it is recommend De Havilland ceases its contractual relationship with Dollard and instead enters into a contract with Marton Enterprises. Although entering into a contract with Marton puts forth the issue of whether or …show more content…
There just is no way to tell whether or not the quality of one bidder’s product is equal to the quality of the other, leaving price as the only metric for a true “apples-to-apples” comparison. This gives De Havilland the opportunity that if it is able to control Marton’s quality to be comparable to that of Dollard, then its goals of obtaining a long term supply with significantly lower pricing will be met. Alternatives and/or Options De Havilland has the option to negotiate with Marton, to better its position by sharing its strategic objectives and try to reach an agreement that betters the relationship for both parties. It could negotiate to provide better pricing, better quality and better customer service. If De Havilland negotiated pricing, it could lower the pricing to something less than what was already proposed by Marton, and potentially cut out some “fat” that might be included in Marton’s original quote. De Havilland had been known for negotiating after receiving their proposals, so there is the potential that Marton was aware of this and padded its bid. De Havilland could negotiate on quality, requesting quality reviews and minimum quality specifications, and that quality control be instituted to ensure that Marton’s yield matched De Havilland’s standards. This would help alleviate any concerns De Havilland has over quality. Lastly, De Havilland
Suppliers generally have a moderate to high bargaining power within the industry due to the limited number of suppliers which forces aviation companies to choose from the number available and accordingly to accept their prices. In fact, fuel is the second highest cost for aviation companies. There are highly depended on supplier’s prices and the availability which indicates on a relatively high bargaining power of suppliers. In addition, there are high switching costs which are strongly in favor of the suppliers and means that the company experiences an increase in operating costs when switching to another supplier as flying another type of aircraft leads to additional costs (maintenance, training etc.).Aircrafts are vulnerable to delays due to the location of gate locations which leads to a decrease in utilization and therefore to an increase in costs.
I usually do one line of my mother's side, and once my road block was cleared of who my 3rd great grandfather's father was, that arrived in Canada via New York and Albany in August 1785, the line was very well documented in Clan and Peer books. Other lines are obscured with the lack of records when they arrived, born, married, lived and died all before regular census records. So the quilt has many holes.
In early May 2008, talk began between president of Flinder Valves, Bill Flinder and Tom Eliot, chairman and CEO of RSE about a possible acquisition of Flinder Valves by RSE. The industrial manufacturing industry had taken a hit due to rough economic times and the acquisition made sense. Both leaders were very concerned about the challenges and risks of the deal. Flinder was a company that engineered and manufactured specialty valves and heat exchangers. These products required extensive research and development and they were one of very few firms working in these types of applications. A bullk to FVC’s sales came from defense and aerospace applications. They were known for their
Since the timings for producing both the products are different, there must be a difference in cost involved which resulted in the difference in price of the two timings.
market, there is price competition. This can lead to price wars and, therefore, lower prices for
Essentially, just because a product is priced cheaper doesn't mean it lacks in quality and just because a product is priced higher does not indicate or mean that it is of superior quality. So, moreover, you would have to truly decide if the product offers you what you need and has added benefits and features for the price being charged. According to Verma and Gupta (2004), in many instances it is thought that price is a gauge of quality. However, generally there is essentially no relationship between price-perceived quality. Furthermore, price becomes a less important measure of quality in the occurrence of other indications such as brand name and
Presenting Problem: Dejon has a diagnosis of ADHD- CT, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, and R/o Learning Disorder. He has presented with being verbally and physically aggressive towards his siblings and mother, and he requires constant adult supervision. He is impulsive and he lacks the skills needed to be trusted in the community. De’jon’s poor judgment leads him to be put in situations where he is either harming others or setting himself up to be injured. He was involved in a shooting of a 7 year old child in the head with bb gun in Marcy 2016. He intentionally obtained the bb gun. However, as a new member with a new product, electronic product in North American market, the reputation is also an important attribute. Especially, quick delivery time is a key attribute for this company, due to the demand of quick delivery in all markets. Moreover, the manufacturing process of the new product, electronic product, on which our company will definitely focus, has a lot demands. Such as, technology, innovation and quick delivery time even the ability to make the product be the first one appearing in the market (other company, which is developing the same product, may become our competitive opponents). Especially, technology is predicted to play the most important role in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, the traditional cost system has a lot of limitations. Traditional costing system focuses on the cost reduction and the efficiency, particular the products with relatively few standardized components; Clifton, however, produces a wide range of airplane components. In addition, nonfinancial aspects of
Applying the new policy to rationalise BAL’s supplier base over six years, BAL achieved direct cost savings by decrease the base of supplier, and the next target was 600. In order to verify whether BAL’s suppliers were authorised and qualified to produce the necessary parts, BAL needed to ensure any “flyaway” items purchased or manufactured had complete traceability.

The following analysis discusses the suppliers, buyers, industry competition, threats to entry, and substitutes that exist within the large commercial aircraft industry. Additionally, the analysis identifies the pressure that each of these groups applies on the industry and estimates the impact this pressure has on potential industry profits. Each group is identified using a high, medium, or low-pressure classification. A high-pressure classification indicates the group reduces industry profit potential and vice versa.
Since 2008, Bergerac had been exploring the opportunity to begin its own production of cartridge components. Plastic suppliers like GenieTech and Elsinore faced difficulties in responding to demand spikes, leading to production delays. Such supplier unreliability made it challenging for Bergerac to optimize its cartridge production. Thus, the company had to carry more inventory of parts and finished goods than Wyckoff could have liked. The obvious appeal to fully control the supply of plastic lead to a strategy, the company has to decide whether to buy or build this capability. GenieTech owner was interested in retirement and was willing to sell the company for a purchase price of $5.75 million. GenieTech has 8 molding presses each could produce 5 cartridges per cycle with a total capacity of 10,782,720 cartridges per year with 5 days production in a week. The other alternative is to build a unit with 4 molding presses which are more efficient than the presses at GenieTech. The total capacity of the unit will be 6,097,371cartridges per year with 5 days production in a week. It is required to predict the best long term decision among the buy and build options.
With reference to the Vickers Industrial Supplies request for a distributorship and associated pricing discount, I have prepared a decision report to assist you in taking a decision. The report contains the analysis of the situation, the options available, my recommendation and an action plan. The recommendation has been arrived at by evaluating the options based on criteria which are aligned with the company’s objectives.
To eliminate the threat of customers possibly opting for a product similar to what Mr Price offers, they need to monitor and differentiate their products to be in alignment to what the customers want. For examples, a consumer may feel it is better to buy thing from one of their competitors as they have similar products and items.
