Death is a powerful force of life which is inevitable to overcome eventually. Throughout Mary Shelley’s romantic novel, Frankenstein, death is a dominant theme. Death can be the cause of a sad and depressing time, especially losing a loved one. In the novel, death solemnly brings people closer and truly ties the plot together. Death induces many different events into action in the novel and if one event was absent then the storyline could change drastically as death plays huge roles to bring people together and change everyone’s lives for the better. Unfortunately, death is a recurring event throughout the entire novel and though it is tragic, it truly makes the book what it is.
APPREANCE1 Understanding the physical appearance of Frankenstein from Shelly’s novel a few notable things that makes the creature essential in being the monster is how it looks. Shelly’s description of the creature is that of one who is assembled from dead body parts put together in making up a sole person or individual. In Frankenstein (1931) it is seen that Henry Frankenstein searches graveyards and assembles from numerous corpses his creation before bringing it to life. It can be said that James Whale sticks to the original story in how the director adapted this process.

I found that writing this discussion paper was what would be the easiest, most engaging thing for me. Death has always fascinated me; it amazes me, confuses me, and even makes me sad. What comes after death? Nobody knows, nobody, everyone has their own beliefs but beliefs aren’t typically based on science. In class we discussed how Victor Frankenstein was playing “God” and defying the “laws” of death by creating life out of leftover body parts and electricity. I don’t think his motive was to be like, “oh I want to play ‘God’”, but more so, “I’m tired of losing people; I want more control over these aspects of life”. I think saying he was playing “God” had a negative vibe to it, but saying he just wants more control over this terrible part of life is more positive.
