Hope is surprisingly difficult to define and may be expressed in many ways. Overall, I feel that a good definition for hope would be that it is an optimistic and expectant desire that emerges from a stressor. It is a coping mechanism deeply rooted in motivation. It is the opposite of despair and fear as well as the influence that keeps us from succumbing to them. Hope can be identified as a means of perseverance as well as perseverance itself. Hope is the ability to detect even the smallest amount of light in the darkest of places.
The origin of hope can be disputed. Its roots can be considered cognitive, emotional, or spiritual. The answer depends on whom you ask. In my own personal experience, hope has been a feeling attached to a moment of overcoming despair in a time of crisis. I asked two other people where they thought that hope originated. One of the individuals that I asked felt that hope was a goal-oriented mindset that stemmed from a feeling. The other individual believed that hope was an emotion that came from the mindset. If a

I can decipher what constitutes a better tomorrow and the changes we need because I can see the areas that we need to improve. This notion of a better world sets the stage for hope because I know it is both necessary and a step in the right direction. In other words, it is my desire to see the world as a better place that allows me to hold on to hope.
In order to help people build hope in their lives, one would first have to identify the factors that are obstructing it. One place to start would be to begin identifying the individual’s distal stress factors, their resiliency, and their access to resources. The next step would include addressing these factors and focusing on ways to empower the individual. Once hope is established among people in a community, it can be an important binding factor as well as a source of
Defining hope can be equivocal and yet it is commonly associated with a particular experience. Hope reflects an individuals moral values, it is required for human survival; hope is often needed when there is a sense of uncertainty for the future (Tanis & DiNapoli, 2008). In healthcare, hope is described as one of the most important concepts associated with spirituality; without it everything else seems to loose its value. Therefore, hope instigates positive adjustment during the dynamic process of recovery (Tutton, Seers, & Langstaff, 2009).
Hope is a topic in which the consequences can be favorable or a let down. In "Prometheus the Firebringer", when Zeus includes the wisp of hope in Pandora's jar of evils, the question arises that was the purpose of putting it in there showing that hope is evil or its purpose is to help us overcome evil? Many aspects need to be taken into consideration when deciding whether hope is used to defend against the evil of the world or if it is the evil of the world.
Hope is the thing that leads us in the right direction, like the light at the end of a tunnel. Being put through difficult situations, like going to a refugee camp and leaving on a boat with nowhere near enough supplies, is difficult, but hope is what then lets people like Jamal and Bibi to survive. Getting to Australia after long, hard boat trip across the pacific ocean, hope is what gets them their, and thinking that everything can produce hope, even when the situation seems hopeless. Jamal showed this when his house was blown up, and had to stay with Yusuf and his grandfather, when he says “If I get really good at soccer, do you think the government will forgive Mum and Dad?”(p41) Morris Gleitzman showed his sympathy for refugees, as shown by giving them all some sort of hope.
An example of how hope can affect a nation is the Christchurch earthquakes in New Zealand. IN September 2010 Christchurch was struck by a strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, leaving thousands of residents with injuries, without homes and hundreds of casualties. These people demonstrated hope, as although the region is still recovering and receiving numerous after shocks weekly, they still are remaining positive and hopeful. As a consequence of the people of Christchurch’s hope, people all around the world and New Zealand are wiling to give aid to e people affected by the earthquakes . Also because of Christchurch residents hope that the earthquakes will stop, the majority of them have chosen to stay in the region and help recover their city. With hope comes positivity. Although the people of Christchurch have been affected terribly by the earthquakes they are still positive because of their hope. This shows how hope can be a good and important thing for nations today to have.
Hope creates possibilities. Because when your positive around you it spreads hope. For instance, In the book Fever 1793, the character Eliza spreads hope to Mattie. Eliza says that everything will be okay and things will get better and then at bush hill Eliza works with the sick people at bush hill who have the fever. But Eliza has to take care of the kids, so Mattie does that for
inspiration and optimism comes in to play. A person can find hope when thinking about the
Hope is a very powerful thing and the way you handle it can affect you in different ways. Everyone sees and feels hope differently but it is overall a beautiful thing. Throughout the novel Copper Sun by Sharon M. Draper, Amari tends to lose hope very often from herself and others but mostly regains it. The novel Copper Sun has a very similar theme to the poem, “Hope is the thing with feathers” because it captures the thought of losing all hope but being able to regain it and never letting go of it just like Copper Sun portrays. Amari is a hopeless soul when she is reminded that her life is not well, she has lost all contact of Besa, her family is all dead, and through her struggle to freedom.
The word “hope” is defined as a feeling of expectation or desire. People expect things to happen to them such as winning the lottery or meeting the man of their dreams but hope does not guarantee that these things will happen. Hope is quite often found in people involved in hard times such as war. Soldiers have to hope that they will make it home to their families everyday. Ishmael Beah understood what it was like to have hope in terrible situations. When Ishmael wrote his book “A Long Way Gone” he was able to show how he had hope when he lost his family, when he went to New York and when he tragically lost hope when he was in the war.
What is hope? According to Webster’s Dictionary (Agnes & Laird, 1996), the noun hope is defined as “an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation of positive outcomes related to events and circumstances in one 's life. As a verb, its definitions include: ‘"expect with confidence’" and '"to cherish a desire with anticipation .’”
In her article “The Arc of Justice and the Long Run” Rebecca Solnit refers to hope as, “a sense of the grand mystery of it all, the knowledge that we don’t know how it will turn out, that anything is possible.” (Solnit, P.9). Solnit’s definition reflects her attitude towards politics and social justice in that she realizes that not everything is in our control. Adding to the previous statement, we can only try our best to change things for the better because you can never know just how things will turn out. In the political arena, us as Americans can cast our vote to elect the person we see fit to take care of running our country and providing a safe place for our families. However, it was not always this way even in our country and worse so
Hope is anything that possesses one to keep going; belief is what one uses to keeps fighting until the end; endurance is whatever enables one to continue without stopping; then resistance is our defense in order to withstand any obstacles one may possibly encounter. Through countless have experienced pain from within, more than physical. It is in this experience that motivates me to want on the road to become a Peer ince I identify exactly how bad it can become. In addition to that i have learned to look at both sides of any situation also where the other party is coming from, then place myself in their shoes. Even if I don’t agree with it, I can comprehend where they are coming from as well as understanding that everyone’s minds work differentlyue to past experience. In addition to there always being little positive in both sides or situation since no matter how bad of a day or life one may have had there is always good there. On the bad days it may be harder to discover nonetheless it’s there just concealed, one just has to look really hard and it can be found. Also I would appreciate nothing more than to be able to help offer assisting in finding the positive moments.. However in all of this we must most importantly know our limit’s and not to over extend them, because we all have them personal plus towards
I do beleive Hope is a necessary force. I personality believe that individuals should believe in "hope" so they can have a change. If someone that is suffering from a substance abuse and does not have hope they will not be able to leave the addiction because their is no hope. If somoene does not beleive in hope they can look at hope as a change for themselves. Another force that might be consider instead of hope can be change. Many individuals might not have a belief so change might be another force for effective group counseling.
Hope, by definition means to look forward to something with reasonable desire and confidence. Hope also means a person or thing in which expectations are centered. When discussing the word hope, one must consider the core values by which the word works around. You could hope for financial success, world peace, or simply hope for some good out of your day. In 2006, Barack Obama wrote the political biography The Audacity of Hope to outline his core political and spiritual beliefs, as well as his opinions on different aspects of American culture. The Illinois senator divided the book into nine chapters, each concentrating on both his own and the United States’ successes and failures in local and state politics. While revealing great
Hope creates a God’s presence and help us persevere in difficult situations. This allows us to channel hope to patients and that they are not alone, God will always be there for them. Patients who lose hope tend to be self-destructive and have no goals in life, this can be detrimental to patient health recover.
Desmond Tutu once said: “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” As stated in the quote, the feeling of hope motivates people to look forward to a new tomorrow, and some literature works elaborate on the basic fact of ‘Never losing hope.’ Emily Dickinson, a well-acclaimed poet, highlights an accurate portrayal of the abstract concept of hope in her poem, entitled “‘Hope’ Is The Thing With Feathers,” through the usage of having a balladic nature, inimitable formatting, a powerful metaphor, vivid imagery, and stylistic alliteration. Although Dickinson’s way of expressing the message differs much from Tutu’s, readers can note multiple similarities. Both works portray differing definitions of what hope means
