Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stress is divided into two major categories, eustress and distress. Eustress is good stress and something that is perceived as enjoyable. While distress is a feeling perceived situational demands exceed one’s coping capabilities. “Some of the causes of stress include a loss in the family, school and tests, work, and what goes on in your family. Some of the physical signs of stress are loss of hair, feeling tired, looking tired, breaking out, being achy and sore, constant headaches, trouble sleeping, and constantly catching colds.” (Steber p 1) I have had a lot of stress in the past five months and I have experienced a lot of distress in my life and I feel like I have handled it very well.

“Some common ways to handle stress is to exercise, eat a healthy, balanced diet, make time for things you enjoy, talk to someone you trust, take some deep breaths…”( Health Direct p1) In the beginning of the year, my parents decided to adopt puppies so I can focus on them with training, feeding, playing, and walking with them. My family and friends were also a big part because they were my support system and got me out of the house and distracted me. What also helped me was I went on a low fat diet and started to monitor when I was stress eating or eating out of boredom and what I was eating when I went out to eat. During these stressful times, I knew I needed to take my life back so I started to time manage myself and what I should be doing or how long I should be doing something for including free time, schoolwork, homework, exercise, and family time.
