Definition Of Success

Success is a word that really hard to define, because everyone will have a different definition for this word. In fact, there no exact definition for the word "success". For a student, maybe the success means to pass all courses of the semester; for a business man, signing a importance contract and get a lot of money are successes; and for a president, leading the country to develop and make the people have a better life are success. For me, I also have my own definition for the word "success". When I was a kid, I really want to be a scientist, but after I become mature, my thinking has become more mature and my definition of success also

Success, as described by Winston Churchill, is “…going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” This has taken on greater meaning in our modern day, as the path to success has seemingly become more complex. The matter of considerable controversy at present is the definition of success by different category of people. With a significant amount of people claiming that the real success is the professional and economical success. In this context, my view is contradictory to the aforementioned statement.

Success is one of those words that does not have a uniform definition that can apply to every circumstance. Success can mean plenty of things; to someone who started out with nothing and gained little, they would see themselves as successful. On the other hand, someone who started off with plenty can have a different idea of success from the person who started with nothing. I am one of those people who started off with nothing; my parents and I immigrated to the United States from Nigeria and to my family back in Nigeria, I am very successful. Yet I see myself doing much more; my definition of success may change over time, but there is one thing that I expect to have in all my ideas of success: Being so successful that your success rubs off on other people who need it.

The dictionary may have a set definition for the word “success”, but every individual has his or her own interpretation of what may make something or someone successful. Money, status, and power all initially come to mind, but success is not entirely about an end result of monetary rewards. At High Point University, students are taught to value the motivation and determination behind being successful, and how being successful must also be satisfying. There must be a passion and drive behind all that a person chooses to be and accomplish. Furthermore, the end result must be a life of significance. The opportunities I have been presented with as a first-year student are meant to guide me to achieve just that, and I intend on taking full-advantage of all this campus has to offer.

Success is like balance, tedious and differing, always needing adjustment to match a each differing situation. Balance is such a simple thing, yet people are so amazed by the feats it can achieve. Balance is a strange and untouchable thing, always wavering in the distance, never able to be reached. Balance is a mythical and miraculous thing that people are always trying to achieve, yet is so hard to get to. Just as is success. Success is simple and amazing, strange and incorrigible, mythical and miraculous. People always strive to reach success in their lives, to finally meet that end goal they were striving after so long. Both balance and success are goals people strive to achieve yet are so hard to get to. And each is just as subjective as the other.

In todays world, mainstream marketing and media have us all influenced and brainwashed into believing a fake, even threatening definition of success. Making most humans believe having a great house, a quick vehicle, and being financial stable with complete freedom is the American dream. However, there are great numbers of success that do not list any of these. It does not take material goods to have success. Success is hitched with happiness because they are both extremely personal. Accurate success takes admiration, thanks, honor, and patience-which are all attributes that by nature are harder to attain-mostly in the shadow of todays marketers that constantly cheat us, control out thoughts, and steal our freedom to build their bottom line.

Success is in the eye of the beholder. The definition of success has many meanings. It could mean how high a person reaches in their career, how well they do in school, how fit they are, how smart they are, how beautiful or handsome they are and even how much money they make.

Success. What is success? If it to you it means simply,” to achieve the goals one sets out to accomplish,” then you may think similar to my good friend Jonny. Or you could be like my game crazy friend Beebe and define it as,” how many head shots [he] can get in one round.” Either way I guess you would be correct. However, I feel like more and more people are starting to believe the Webster dictionary version “of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame.” Not that this is a bad thing but people like my parents generation are starting to think this version of success is college degrees and good paying jobs.

Success is defined differently for everyone, for me its happiness. When I achieve happiness, I achieve success. In order for me to be happy I have a couple goals to meet for my life, for example, one is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice in order for me to reach my second goal. That is for me to move to New York to become a detective. When I was younger, I always said I wanted to be the first women president, so from a very young age I was interested in politics and the government. Being a detective, I get some of the same qualities and experiences I would as a political figure, for instance, I get to work with the people. Success relies on how high we, as individuals, set our standards. Everyone has their own idea and vision of what success is. My definition for success is an accomplishment. First, when I state that success is an accomplishment I mean any type of achievement. Whether it is overcoming destitutions or becoming rich and famous, if it is a goal that has been attained, then it is a triumph.
