Alpha Epsilon Delta, an organization that had just became an official chapter at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith had to begin somewhere. From the time of its conception I was highly involved in the organization. I was voted president after serving on the inaugural executive team as treasurer. Newly formed organizations tend to dwindle without the correct guidance and leadership. I was determined not to let that happen to an organization with such ambitious causes diminish. As I started Bloomfield College I have always been interest in joining a sorority. I went to many different interested meeting and none of them caught my attention like Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did. When I sat down and listen to their history and their goals it really made me change my mind and realize that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was the one. I am a proud Latina and to know that they were the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation made me more excited and enthusiastic on being part of the interested ladies. The main thing that captured my interest was to know that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. is a scholarly excellence sorority. As any person would think a sorority is about partying and having fun I believe this one focus more on their educational future and to achieve their goals.

As a young woman who strives to make a difference both locally and globally, I know that membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will aid in accomplishing my life long goals. The emphasis this organization places on assisting and supporting others through the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust, is truly a reflection of the public service initiatives that I make an effort to take part in. The opportunity to form a lifelong bond with other college educated women, who share some of the same morals and beliefs as I do, is phenomenal. In order to get information for my paper, I interviewed someone with a position of authority within Tri Delta. Her name is Danielle, and she is the new member educator. The first thing I learned about Tri Delta is that it is more than just letters on a shirt, songs and chants, a gold pin, socials, rituals, an obligation, or a way of life. “Being in a sorority is about learning about people and being able to give without expecting a return. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. While conducting research on the partnered sororities of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, I discovered particularly fascinating attributes associated with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. What fascinated me the most was the sorority’s distinct dedication to education, sisterhood, mentorship, and international service. I desire membership of the first organization people look to for help; that is Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. This sorority has made its way relevant from 1908 to modern day and progressively moving forward. I want to be able to say the same thing about myself.

These organizations have played pivotal rolls in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, met with presidents, open clinics and so many other phenomenal things in history. Once being initiated into these organizations you are responsible to carry on this legacy of providing service. But upon graduation it is not mandatory to stay active in the chapter. Graduation is quickly approaching for the seniors that are apart of Divine Nine and they now face the question “Do I remain active?”

As a member of Phi Theta Epsilon, I will continue to pursue my occupational therapy degree in the presence of other highly motivated students that share the same values and the same desire to contribute to the continued growth and promotion of our profession. I will continue to seek the knowledge and experience necessary for me to become the best occupational therapist that I can be for my future clients with the support of Phi Theta Epsilon. I will demonstrate continued academic excellence and professionalism through my role in positively representing occupational therapy at Alvernia. I am excited for the opportunity to represent occupational therapy not only here at Alvernia, but also within the larger community as well.

I’m currently seeking membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, for brotherhood and a friendship, with successful leaders who strive to compel an impact in their communities. Through all my interactions and meeting with members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the features that stood out to me the most that made me personally want to become a member were the friendship they held with each other, and those of similar characteristics. The fact that they were willing to help other men continue to grow and better themselves in any way they could. The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated that I have met, have pushed myself to become a better man and friend. These bonds have added a value to my life that I am forever grateful for.

Specifically taking the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority into account in present day. It is quite evident that the purpose and message from the earlier founders of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority still live on today. I interviewed Kayse Cuevas, a twenty-one-year-old senior at Oklahoma State University. She is a current and active member in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. I asked Cuevas if she had any family members that were Deltas and she confirmed that she in fact did. Cuevas has a cousin that’s a Delta and her grandmother’s best friend is also a Delta. When asked what motivated her to become a Delta her response was inspiring. Cuevas said that her grandmother’s best friend is nearing her eightieth year of life and is still extremely active within the organization with helping in the community

A native Patersonian, Audrey McDowell is the daughter of the late Cornell and Laura Parker. Audrey received her early childhood education at Dale Avenue School, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Paterson. She is a graduate of Wayne Hills High School in Wayne. Audrey completed her post secondary education at William Paterson College in Wayne New Jersey graduating with honors with a BS degree in Community Health Education.

Never in a million years did I plan on joining Greek life in college. When I got to school I quickly decided that I wanted to be more involved and help make a difference in people’s lives. I decided to rush a sorority which happened to be Delta Gamma. Delta Gamma has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities to make a difference. When the Whited family reached out to our chapter here at IUP I knew this would be something I would remember doing for years to come. The Whited family came to one of our chapter meetings and we got to meet little Lochlan who touched all of our hearts. Being in a sorority is very rewarding yet can be very time consuming. Each member that is part of a sorority has a huge role to play even if you do not hold a position within the organization. Alpha Sigma Alpha is a national sorority who is heavily involved with community service and their three national philanthropies, St. June Smith, Special Olympics, and Girls on the Run, as well as local philanthropy year after year.
