Topic- Dental problems and how to prevent them Specific Purpose: To inform the class about the 3 most common dental problems and how they can be prevented Thesis Statement: I am going to tell you about the 3 most common dental problems which are gum disease, bad breath, and mouth ulcers and also ways to prevent them. Introduction: Don’t you wish we could get away with eating anything and not worry about problems occurring in the mouth like cavities which then lead to getting fillings, your gums turning black from smoking or doing tobacco and so on? Medications can also be another way to cure it which includes the scaling and root planning surgically depending on how bad the disease is. II. Another common dental problem one can get is bad breath. A. Bad breath is the most common in mostly teenagers and early adulthood. It can be a sign of leading to a bigger dental problem or some other kind of sickness in the body. B. Bad breath may be caused by several things. 1. The kind of food you eat like onions and garlic can cause real bad breath because foods are digested and absorbed into your bloodstream, they are eventually carried to your lungs and given off in your breath until food has passed down completely throughout the body. 2. Another way you can get bad breath is by not cleaning your tongue. After eating, all the food is absorbed in your teeth, gums , and on the tongue which leads to very bad breath because bacteria is growing beneath all the particles. 3. Bad breath can be a step closer to another problem in the mouth like minor gum disease, or dry mouth. Saliva is necessary to moisten and cleanse the mouth by neutralizing acids produced by plaque.
