1. Briefly describe your reasons for applying to this program.
I’m applying to this program because I want to pursue a career in college student development in a program that gives its students a wide variety of hands on experiences. I’m looking for a program that combines traditional classroom teaching with the opportunity for multiple internships and practicums. Additionally, I have grown to find a home at Appalachian State and I would like to continue my education at this university.
2. What factor(s) have influenced your decision to pursue a graduate degree at this time?
I’ve decided to pursue a graduate degree at this time because I want to continue my education immediately after my undergraduate studies. While I was growing up, I watched my Mom struggle to raise a family, work forty hours a week, and go to school in order to receive a Bachelor’s degree. I’m immensely proud of my Mom for everything that she has accomplished, but because of her struggles I want to complete most of my education before joining the workforce. Pursuing a graduate degree at this time will allow me to make the most out of every educational opportunity provided to me as a student before I establish myself in a career and start a family.
3. What are your short-term and long-term career objectives?

Throughout my professional career, I have had the privilege of leading, supervising and managing teams on many occasions. In each case, it was incumbent upon me to inspire and empower a group of individuals to work together, and obtain the cooperation of many contributing offices and subject-matter experts to ensure the success of a given project or service initiative. My experience as a liaison professional, coupled with my personal diplomacy skills, enabled me to communicate clearly and effectively, negotiate differences, and achieve consensus on a regular basis.
My main field of interest is to enter the medical field and assist patients who are struggling financially or are limited in medical care due to residing in rural areas.

My current career goals include working in the field of microbiology. Although, I am at a crossroads regarding my path of study: becoming a pathologist (medical doctor) or gaining a Masters as a microbiologist. I am highly interested in conducting research for the CDC or other firms in studying viruses and other pathogens and developing vaccines or cures. My interest for pathogens started as a child when I would watch countless zombie films. I later discovered I was more interested in the disease and the idea of a pandemic than the actual zombie thriller. In high school I enrolled in science classes and researched more about pathogens and occupations involving microorganisms and determined that I would pursue a career in microbiology. My interest
Early in my educational career I realized that I want to help people, not necessarily as a medical doctor or nurse but in a field that is unfortunately still undermined— psychology. As an adolescent, I struggled with my own mental illness. I felt completely isolated for years until I finally sought out help and began taking steps to become a better version of myself. My aspirations are to help individuals reach their full potential despite debilitating mental illnesses and help provide suicide prevention within my community. I graduated from high school with my AA degree from Eastern Florida State College and now I am working towards my B.S in psychology with a minor in cognitive sciences. There are two routes I see myself doing afterwards,

My long-term professional goal is to become a graduate/ medical school instructor. I cannot think of another profession that would be as rewarding as helping students receive a higher education. Anatomy has always been an interest of mine. I fell in love with anatomy my sophomore year of high school. Every year Mrs. Kamm took three sophomores into her Anatomy class that was only supposed to be open to juniors. She told us that usually out of the three sophomores one receives an A, a B, and a C. I knew I did not want to be the C student. I worked persistently throughout her class and ended up being the A student. That was the first time I felt my hard work pay off. I knew I deserved that grade because I put so much time and work into the class.
