In my hometown, there is not much to do on any night of the week, so many nights I found myself walking around town with my friends. After walking an hour of so we would often become tired and need a rest. The swing along the Mississippi River was always a great resting spot. The metal swing fits up to four people and has a great view of the Lock and Dam. Although the swing was cold when we first sat down, it would soon warm up and sometimes we would end up staying there for hours just talking. The swing was also beneficial to us in times when we were feeling really stressed. Sitting on the swing gave me rest, relaxation, and peace. This is important to everyone, but many people find it hard to schedule relaxation time. Between school, …show more content…
This patient watching gave me time to think and organize my thoughts. I did not have to worry about people bothering me. I could watch the squirrels play and listen to the birds sing in the many trees that provided plenty of shade. Many people do not have the option of living along a river but the calmness can still be found in every town. Almost every town has some sort of park. Many people think that parks are for children to play in, not a relaxing place for adults. This is not completely true. Parks offer a spot to sit and relax, to take in the fresh air and watch the birds and squirrels in the shade trees. The singing of the birds can be a very relaxing sound that helps people find peace within themselves. Fresh air is a bonus for people who are stuck in an office all day. Parks are a place for people to get away from their busy lives and relax. They are places that people can sit, think and just be alone.
Parks are not only a place to relax but also a place to see nature's true beauty. In many large cities the streets are lined with street signs and billboards. Trees and plants are not a part of the daily scenery. Parks offer a relief to the people in cities with its many trees and beautiful plants and flowers. These are beautiful any time of the year, but they are even more interesting as the flowers bloom and the leaves change colors with the changing of the seasons. Across the river from my swing is a giant bluff that is filled with many magnificent
What has become of parks in the United States has taken creativity and minimized its possibilities. A child’s advocate and architect, Lady Marjory Allen, commented her thoughts on what parks are like today. “Allen was disappointed by what she described in a documentary as “asphalt square” playgrounds with “a few pieces of mechanical equipment”(Rosin 4). When you describe parks as this it doesn’t sound fun at all, and certainly not to kids. Parks have been made to be all the same, the same swings, slides, etc.
To some, parks are often viewed as a staple of the city, for others it is a place for leisure. Every park is filled with history and reflects back onto the city in which it presides. Fairmount Park and Central Park both have a rich history and an
Traveling is one of my family’s favorite things to do. The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium.
Dog parks are places usually in a protective environment where pet owners can take their dogs for exercise and to socialize with other dogs. Some people believe that dog parks are unpleasant.Other people view dog parks as a benefit to a neighborhood. This issue is complicated.I believe dog parks are great.
Parks have been around for many years. They truly have impacted not only suburbs, but they have majorly impacted cities. Without the invention of parks it would be hard to escape city life. Cities are still changing from what they used to be and how they are designed. However the future of the parks is unsure due to funding and lack of maintenance. The first idea of a park was from William Penn in 1682. He created a plan for Philadelphia to have five areas of park - like land. Then James Oglethorpe had an idea in 1733 for Savannah. He established a system, where neighborhoods were revolved around a square (Schuyler, 2015). The first recorded urban park was Fairmount Gardens. It was created in 1812, in Philadelphia when they constructed their waterworks. The park first started off at five acres, surrounding the waterworks. The park had become so popular that in 1828 they expanded it to twenty-eight acres. In 1850, Lemon Hill and Sedgley estates were added to Fairmount, which made the popularity of the park increase. People thought the park site was chosen because of the class of people that lived there, but that was not the case. The land was chosen because it was too elevated. Since the land was so elevated that made it too hard to build and expensive to build anything there or to build roads on that kind of land (Schuyler, 2015). Parks then became very popular in cities. William Cullen Bryant and Andrew Jackson Downing became the faces
There are a lot of stores around the area. Many transportations including buses, cars, and trains. As well as plants such as trees, grass, weeds. This shows that there are a lot of plant life available. There are humans such as myself walking, running etc. Some schools are also around so that shows there are a lot of children and teens. The interactions here will have a big impact in building a park because there are so much available. Since there are a lot of stores, parents can go get some shopping done then afterwards take their child to the park to enjoy themselves and play with other children. The children have a huge impact on this because they will have a place to play instead of being bored at home or even risking playing on the streets. As for teens they can relax with their friends after school or before school depending on what time they begin. Since there are a lot of transportation around, people can come and go to this site easier. They can take a bus, train, or car. Another great impact is that there are open sidewalks in which people can also walk if they live
Urban parks are a natural area with many functions, and are closely related to the lives of urban residents. They are not only the basis of urban greening, but also an important devotee of natural resources conservation.
National parks protect and preserve nature’s natural beauty. The vast, open land provides a safe place that allows native plants and animals to thrive in their natural environment. National parks not only protect plants, animals, and the natural beauty, but they also protect a place that might be important to people. Someone's ancestors might have walked through these very redwood forests. Thankfully, the forests are now protected and they would get a chance to experience how it felt like to walk through the amazing, tall, beautiful Redwood trees. Thanks to the amount of vegetation in national parks, they also help us clean the air because of the large amounts of carbon dioxide the vegetation releases, and oxygen it soaks in. So, national parks also help the environment, not just protect it, that's pretty cool. I guess it's their way of saying thank you to us for protecting them for the rest of their lives. National parks aren't all about nature though, they're also great places to visit, relax, and have fun with your family and friends. All national parks provide an abundance of exciting activities you can enjoy with your family, not just Redwood National Park. The final reason why national parks are so important is, they allow people to get educated on the world around but, in a fun and entertaining
Public spaces are areas in the community in which people can come into a common place and promotes community identity. Parks create an environment for the community to reach out to each other as well as creating a public forum for the community. We need to have the community more involved with each other and the best way to create an enriching environment is if the community was able to come and share their many identities to create a unique identity for the park. Tattnall Square Park hold a farmer’s market every week to promote community involvement and every so often brings in entertainment for the community to experience. The green space that the parks will have will welcome other community activities from other organizations and therefore allow the park to flourish. Parks are important to the community because they lend a hand in creating an identity to who the community is. The more inviting a community is, the more the community might intermingle, and the more inviting the community will seem to others creating an environment that Village Green, Mid-City Square, and Mill Hill needs.
A dog park could benefit everyone. Studies have shown that a well exercised dog is less likely to behave badly. Many people who love dogs, live in apartment buildings that do not offer lots to exercise their dogs.
A dog park would help strengthen a dog’s social side. Being the owner of a very protective german shepard, I can tell that a dog park would help a dog become more comfortable around strangers and other dogs. They would be more exposed to new things and feel less anxious. Plus it will help dog owners to meet new people.
It goes without saying that everyone on earth has at least one sanctuary. For some, this place is high up in the branches of a tree, where they can touch the sky with outstretched fingertips and feign a lack of attachment to the busy world lying below. For others, this sacred place might be found in a place as close and accessible as a cubbyhole in their own home. For others still, it might be in a library, or on a quiet mountaintop, the hard pews of a church building, or even a person. I myself have found my haven to be far away and, for now, out of my reach, in a city called Wilmington in North Carolina. It is the seventh or eighth largest city in the state, but the downtown area isn’t too busy to relax and breathe in the fresh air drifting from the beach only a few miles away. It is peaceful and serene, but still bustling with just the right amount of life and activity to be always uplifting, and flawless in its own way.
Urban parks are defined in their comparative and contrastive relationships to the urban environments surrounding them. Although frequently conceptualized as natural landscapes, the physical and social uses of parks give
