Basketball
Basketball is a great sport for young people to play. I played basketball for five years but then I messed up my ankle, so I couldn’t play anymore. I played point guard and shooting guard, those were my favorite position because I like to take the ball up the court and call plays. Point guard is a hard position to play because you must keep the whole team focus and aware of what they must do. My granddad introduced me to basketball. I used to watch basketball a lot on tv with my grandad. My favorite player was Allen Iverson, he played for the 76ers he was the best point guard in the league. My grandad like the Lakers. I learned a lot by just watching the game and watching people play. Most of the time I do get frustrated, but I end up calming down, so I can stay focus. In the early life when it was made people really didn’t know how to play. It was made in Springfield, Massachusetts by James Naismith. After he made it he added rules to the game. One of them were that each team must have nine players, so it can be fair or even. The basket looked a little different from now. He started with a peach basket and they used a soccer style ball. The first public basketball game they had was played where he invented it at Springfield, Massachusetts on March 11, 1892. Michael Jordan said “The game of basketball has been everything to me. My place of refuge, place I’ve always gone where I needed comfort and peace. It’s been the site of intense pain and the most intense feelings of joy and satisfaction. It’s a relationship that has evolved over time, given me the greatest respect and love for the game(brainyquote.com).” This is Michael Jordan favorite thing to do as you can see. He releases stress, pain, and any anger he has just by playing basketball and that’s why he’s the best right now that ever played. Basketball is a sport that been out for a long time that mostly all boys love. Most people are gifted with that sport and some aren’t. After the first public basketball game it started going everywhere in the world even overseas and even females were playing. Then after, colleges started to adopt the game. The first college game was played in Madison Square Garden. A lot of colleges was playing that sport.

Learning the game of basketball has changed my life for the better. As a little girl, my father believed that I would be an incredible athlete. As soon as I could shoot a basketball, my dad took me to a park to develop my skills. Practicing constantly led me to fall in love with the sport. Basketball became more than just a game, it became a passion. Pursuing this passion has been rewarding, inspiring, and empowering.
There are many , many people that play basketball. Me, being one. Some of them may not be too skillled yet. And others may be very skilled like people in the NBA or the WMBA. Basketball is one of my favorite sports and I’m so happy I was able to learn it myself. I hope you get the chance to someday.
Basketball was my favorite sport growing up. I’ve played since I was little and I still play the game today. I played basketball at my elementary school, St. Cecilia, from Kindergarten till 8th Grade and also played AAU basketball for about 2 years before entering High School. Going into my freshmen year of High School, the first sport I played was basketball. Tryouts began in about the start of November and ended about 2 weeks after. I had made the Freshmen A team. I was excited and as the season progressed, we didn’t win many games but I still had fun playing. Nearing the end of the season, golf was another sport coming up that I also wanted to try and play. I say “try and play” because at the time, I was also going to play AAU basketball. I had set in my mind that I was going to play basketball for all of my four years of high school, but my parents pushed me to tryout for golf. When the basketball season ended, golf tryouts started. Tryouts lasted for about 2 weeks, and I made the JV team. When I found out I made the team, I was very surprised. I hadn’t put in the hard work as others before tryouts came around, but the coach saw potential in me and that I can become a great player. The coach saw so much potential in me, that every week, I kept progressing in skill and fine tuning my mechanics. Halfway through the season, about 4 or 5 weeks after I made the team, my coach gave me the chance to play with the Varsity Golf team for a couple days. I was excited and eager to
Basketball, with a long history in the United States, is a great sport on several levels, played in high school, college, and even professionally. For years, basketball has intrigued thousands of people, including myself, to see sportsmanship, strategy, and endurance at its best and its most interesting. I love basketball because it not only shows how a game should be played- players drenched in sweat but all reaching towards one goal and working together as well as perfecting themselves- but it is also a game that inspires me to do my best in everything whether it be academic, physical, or mentally. Basketball is the model sport because it is a game of endurance, inspiration, and victory whether a team wins or not.
Basketball is the best sport in the nation. It was created by a Canadian man named James Naismith and he was a PE teacher. The first basketball goals were peach baskets and they played in cages made of chicken wire and mesh. At the beginning of basketball, they used soccer balls before actual basketballs were created. They also did not dribble a lot at the beginning of basketball, they would catch the ball and take a couple of steps to slow down or stop. Since then the game of basketball has changed greatly, no one is no longer playing in cages with wires, and the game requires a lot of athleticism and ability. The game is very entertaining and fast-paced. When watching basketball you have to stay engaged in the game or you just might miss
a professional level of basketball played by the best of the best men from all
Basketball doesn’t just do it’s job on the court, every coach that I had has taught me important life lessons from basketball. For example, when a ref calls a bad foul you can’t stay mad because like the weather even though it rains and you don’t want it to you need to learn how to move on and work with what’s given to you. Sports in general help you grow as a person and make friends with many people. I enjoy playing with different people because you get to create a bond with many and be more social around people.
Basketball has always been something I loved ever since I was a little girl. I remember when I was younger, we had a basketball hoop in my driveway and my brothers and I would always go out and play one on one or horse. I also remember losing, a lot. Although it wasn’t about winning or losing for me, I just loved the game. In fourth grade, I started playing competitive basketball and loved the sport even more. Maybe it was scoring points or getting an assist, I’m not really sure the reason, I just knew I loved the game. As I got older my love for the game only grew; until high school hit.
A Canadian, James “Doc” Naismith came up with the game of Basketball with the concept of developing a game of finesse that discouraged roughness (Caponi-Tabery 83). Since its creation basketball has become a worldwide sensation. Basketball has seen many changes in its rules and style of play but it continues to be one of the most popular sports in the world today, second only to soccer. Basketball is most popular in its home country the United States where it is played at many levels. There are 30 professional or NBA teams, over 350 teams at the collegiate level, and countless high school and amateur league teams. Basketball is relatively a new sport compared to football or soccer but it is still an important part of American culture. Basketball is not just a sport but is a form of artistic expression and way of life for many people.
Basketball is all I have ever known. I started playing when I was about 3 years old. At the time, I was living in a big house in the suburbs of Vallejo with a large backyard as well. My father had acquired and assembled one of the little Fisher Price baby basketball hoops in the backyard for me; it even came with a baby ball! For the duration of all of my summer, I was in the backyard, playing with the basketball, pretending I was as marvelous as a professional player like Michael Jordan. I spent so much time outside practicing, I’m surprised I didn’t get sick of it. Eventually, as time carried on, I outgrew the baby hoop. When I became of age, I started using the regular sized hoop my father had in the backyard. And I fell into the same routine
Basketball has been my biggest go to. Whether it be because I’ve had a bad day, or good, someone’s upset me or because someone’s made me happy, basketball has been and always will be my biggest go to in life. Basketball has shown me that hard work pays, which has leaked into my life off the court. The reason basketball has stuck in my life because I learned many life lessons while playing the game. For example how about the fact the imp playing with a team?
Basketball never stops I love playing basketball, or should I say that basketball is life. Basketball is one of my ways to release my anger, or it can be my stress reliever. When I’m bored I play basketball, when I don’t have anything to do I play basketball. It looks like basketball have been a part of my life. I know many people also like basketball and it makes me happy to know that but what makes the basketball special and famous?
First off, the history of basketball. There’s a myth that the first basketball type game was more than 500 years ago, by early Olmec people of ancient Mexico .The Aztec, and Mayan cultures also had a game similar to basketball, only instead of a rubber ball they used the decapitated skulls of their conquered foes. But the game we know today was first played on January 20th, 1892 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Canadian Doctor James Naismith invented the game for the YMCA to play during the winter months. Naismith wrote simple rules for the game, and nailed up two peach baskets for hoops, most of original Naismith rules are still in place today. The First game consisted of 18 players, or nine to a team which was standard to the baseball teams of today. Since Naismith or the YMCA didn’t have the money to design a new ball they used a soccer ball. The
