It was my first basketball game of the season. The league opener. We had gotten a fresh supply of new uniforms that were very heavy, our whole team didn’t like them. We were playing one of the best teams in the league last year, so we were expecting a fair fight. The game before ours had just ended so it was our turn to warm up, but it was their turn to warm up as well. After doing out layup and jump shot drill, we headed over to our coach who gave us a before game talk. “This team likes to run a full court zone press, so try and get the ball to the middle of the floor and push it up the court. Defensive wise, we should be in our full court man to man defense, if you see the back of the other players head with the ball what do you do?” Immediately after hearing this, our whole team yelled, “TRAP!”. Of course, I was on the starting five so I got to come out and play for the tip. Although I wasn’t the tallest man on the court, I still played a big role. My role was to either bring the ball up, or catch the ball in the middle and pass it up the court to set up our offence. The game had a mediocre start and the game remained close for the first 10 minutes. Suddenly, ten minutes later, the other team rocketed ahead of us. At that moment, the score was 27-16, and the other team just kept going. After finally realizing that the other team had been on a huge run, our coach called a timeout. “You better have a great reason why you just let that team score 10 points in the past
The word cool is valued differently by each individual as everyone has a different view on objects or thoughts in life. How cool is defined is basically something that one cherishes or has passion for as it could vary from playing sports to having a pet rock. Playing basketball is cool because it is a sport for anyone who has passion for the game as each player holds a different position on the court allowing a team to function well. Not only is basketball a sport for anyone, it also acts as a stress relief. Basketball allows individuals to be put in a relaxed state of mind allowing their minds to clear up from the stress that they may possibly had to endure throughout their day. The definition of cool could change as one progresses in their life because their enjoyment for certain things may change as they age. Unlike other sports, basketball is life and it is a sport meant for any age groups because it does not require a lot of physical strength. Basketball is more of a mental sport because each individual would have to push themselves to become better each day by doing drills to brush up their fundamentals. A passionate basketball individual will go through hell just to improve a slightest bit because basketball is life for everyone for finds passion in the game. For example, Kobe Bryant, a Los Angeles Lakers Legend, spent most of his life playing professional basketball and Michael Jordan, a living basketball legend, even had his own brand under Nike. Both basketball
We were in a full timeout i was zoned out, and my mind was blank, i was scared to death for the team, this was the championship game, I didn't want to let down the team by missing a shot completely, a lot of people were telling me a lot of things such as ‘’you can do this’’ ‘’ you've done this many times’’ but i was completely out of my mind, I couldn't think straight i was hearing voices but didn't really catch em’ but there was one thing i did catch and it said ‘’never looked at the consequences of missing a big shot... when you think about the consequences you always think of a negative result, Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen, and this is your time to make it happen,’’ and that's exactly what I did I wasn't afraid to fail, i was able to accept failure, everyone fails at
"Swish!" The pleasant sound the basketball hoop makes when you perfectly sink the ball. It was a skin-frying day in the small town of Campo. We could hear everyone else in the pool right next to the basketball courts but we would rather play some ball. "Pass it, pass it!" Aricia shouted to Jacob. Jacob ignored her and took it up to the hoop himself. "What the Heck!!" Aricia said, "Pass it sometime you ballhog." Everyone mumbled, "Ooooh" egging on the situation. This time Jacob passed it to her as fast as a bullet so she wouldn't catch it but she did and shot. "Hahahahaha" everyone laughed at her shot. Now Travez and I have the ball and we were ready to score this time. Travez passes it to me and I shoot but only to get the ball stuck in between
I awoke on Friday morning to the smell of crispy bacon and hot eggs, my usual pre-tournament breakfast. I bolted out of bed to get to the kitchen. I devoured that pretty quickly, then headed to get ready for the weekend. I had already packed the night before: 2 uniforms, my swimsuit, pajamas, my bathroom bag, nice clothes for when we go out to eat as a team, and most importantly, my softball bag. I bolted out to the car as soon as I made sure I had everything ready to go. Everything was packed, and we embarked on our long journey to the Quad Cities.
My nerves were raging as I thought, “Is everything going to be okay? Will I be able to play another game of my senior year?” I couldn’t stop thinking about what might happen. Images were racing through my head as I thought about my teammates having to go on to play without me. I couldn’t understand why I had to let them handle it on their own. We had played together since we were in the fourth grade, and when they needed me the most, all I could do was sit and cheer. I hated the feeling of helplessness, but at the same time, I knew I had to do all that I could do to help.
They were through the halfway point of the season with the best record in the league, but that didn’t let Gregory allow himself to relax one bit. He pushed further and further, wanting not only to continue winning, but for the winning margin to increase. Being a veteran on the hockey team, he understood how teams can collapse or come together during the second half of the season, and he wasn’t going to let his teammates relax with the first half of the season performance. He held workouts for his team in the early morning before dawn, a routine he used to only hold himself accountable for before this season.
iThe school day was over and the kids were rushing through the doors and overflowing the hallways. “Today is the day to try out for the middle school basketball team!” I thought.
“Pop”! I collapse on the cold hard floor as immediate pain rushes to my left knee. All I manage to utter are groans as my friend asks if I’m okay and tries to lift me off the ground. I limp off in his arms as I’m assisted to the nearest bus stop. Once I’m off the bus I observe that I’m limping badly and my knee is swollen to the size of an orange. A little voice in my head told me this wasn’t the common mishap that happens during basketball. It told me I wasn’t going to be able to slap on an ice pack and be okay the following day. However, I temporarily disregarded this voice, and, being the optimistic person that I am, hoped for the best. I figured I would be back to normal within weeks. This wasn’t the case. My mother eventually decided
I clutch the right side of my stomach where the butterflies are relentless. My finger tips drag along the cold brick wall occupied by vibrant posters advertising bake sales and dances. Past the pool, the strong stench of chlorine stings my watery eyes. As we approach the gym, the thumping of basketballs on the floor sends a chill down my spine. At the end of the hallway, a smiling blonde lady sits with her arms crossed at a wooden table. The pressure to be perfect floods my mind.
The Warriors forced a game seven, will they be able to go in this game in crunch time and win their first NBA Title? The crowd is amazing at Oracle Arena, and here come the players with energy ready to pull out the win. As the first quarter started I was on the bench waited for my time to go in, man I'm ready!Yes, I'm finally in it's the second quarter and were down by three let's pull out the lead and win this game. It's halftime and were going into the locker room, as we go into the locker room I’m thinking to myself that we are going to win this game and we have the talent, so while coach is talking to us he is telling us just to keep our heads high and believe and we can pull out this win. It’s the end of halftime and were going out for
I was eating some skittles and drinking Gatorade before our final game was going to start. In the tip off my friend Kailey was jumping to get the tip off against a really tall girl. They both jump up and Kailey gets the tip and I dribble up the court and pass it to my teammate lyric and he goes up for the layup and he makes it. The next play that we get the ball lyric passes it to me in the corner then I shoot a three and I make it then the crowd goes wild because I am a really good three point shooter. It is now 5 to 0 and the moody crowd is booing their team because they haven’t made a shot yet. The moody team has the ball now and they pass it to the tall big girl and she shoots the fade away and she makes it. It is now 5 to 2 and there is 19 minutes remaining in the first half. We got the ball and Abby gave it to me in the corner and I
It was the first home volleyball game of my sophomore year in high school. There was a bit more excitement in our school due to the fact we were playing against our rival, Garden City High School. Garden City was the team to beat in our district because they were phenomenal at all sports, especially volleyball. I was required to attend school that day and I couldn’t concentrate on any of any classes because I was thinking of the game. School slowly dragged on and finally the final bell rang, signaling school was dismissed. Immediately, I rushed to the locker room and changed into my volleyball uniform and shoes. I could already feel the nervousness and excitement racing through my body and while looking around, I could tell my teammates felt the same. Payne, my coach, a short, very enthusiastic woman gestured for everyone to come in a circle.
Basketball has gotten many young African Americans off the streets and out of gangs and drugs. Before Allen Iverson hit double digits he was on the streets past 12 am or trying to fit in with the older guys. Then basketball would take up most of his time so he could not have time to be on the streets. In my first paragraph I will explain what is basketball. In my second paragraph I will explain the rules of basketball. In my final paragraph I am going to explain how to become a professional or Overseas player. Basketball players, pros and legends all around the world knew the following three what is basketball and the history, the rules and the training of basketball and any sport in general. If they didn't know those three things they wouldn't be who they are today. So when it comes to basketball skill out ways talent in a long shot.
The National Basketball Association is a corporate powerhouse with installments in nearly every major city in the United States. With the exception of European soccer, professional basketball generates more money per season than any other sport in the world. NBA superstars carry as much authority in the entertainment business as the most popular actors, comedians, and musicians. Even the guys who are last off the bench are making more money in one season than the average middle-class worker makes in five years. Corporate America sells its images, logos, slogans, ideas, and viable goods by employing NBA stars to speak publicly on-behalf of their materials. More
When we pull up, the Mason City team is already warming up. We get out of the suburban and get our things out of the back and head to the courts. Mr. Davies meets with the Mason City coach discussing how many games to play and which players are playing which positions as the team and I warm up, which goes by fast in the warm weather. When we go and meet the other team I notice that most of them are as tall as trees, looming over the rest of us. That's bad. Usually tennis players who are tall are awfully hard to get around. There is one that is my height, but I think the chances I play him are incredibly slim.
