The time is 7:30 pm on a Friday night, We make a turn into a shopping center parking lot. I turn towards to the right window and see the reflection of a bright blue and yellow light. When exiting the car I look up to the illuminated sign not knowing what it says the only thing I can distinguish from it is that it resembled a movie ticket stub. I had never been to this place, but yet I was overcome with excitement Once we walked through the front doors I was amazed to see that this place was filled with what I remember in my earliest memories, Films. As we walked through this place that seemed to go for miles I looked around trying to restrain my excitement as I was shocked to see many movies I had never even heard of. I instantly knew that I wanted to watch them all. Once home, I rushed to the television to start the night. After hours of watching movies I found out that all movies are very different from one another, but every story has something unique. Each film I watched drew me and immersed me into it’s world. I’d never seen anything like it. I couldn't wait to watch more of them and be a part of even more, new and exhilarating stories. After a couple years, it had become a tradition to go every weekend. By this time I had seen a multitude of various different stories play out through movies and I still wanted to see more. This is when I realized that the stories we can tell are endless. I knew that I needed to broaden my horizon and watch more than just movies. I
Films are a large part of our lives here in America where we depend on them to do when we’re bored with nothing to do, or when the snow or rain is falling. We all use movies as a common way to go on dates and be with friends. However, there has become an abundance amount of movies that we can all enjoy throughout our lives. Although not all movies are interesting to all viewers depending on their personality and what they like to watch. I can say for myself that a film that I really enjoy would be “Mean Girls”. In the two thousand four film “Mean Girls” there is a sense of entertainment that helps in combining all the aspects found in a classical film. Classical films having a entertaining and dramatic plot, and a excellent cast.
Traveling is one of my family’s favorite things to do. The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium.
I love movies. For as long as I can remember, I’ve harvested a passionate, slightly embarrassing obsession with film. The way in which cinema can paint such vivid and beautiful moving images, portray moving stories containing a wide range of emotion and narrative threads, leaving a long-term impact on the viewer, all within a runtime of two hours or so, captured my fascination at an early age. This fascination continues to this day. While I cannot state for certain the first film I ever watched (My parents seem to think it was either Disney’s animated princess flick Mulan or The Phantom Menace, the first film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy), I can most definitely remember the first film that left a lasting impression on my youthful mind, in addition to inspiring me until this day.
Okay so over the weekend I saw a total of two wonderful movies, one in the theater (Mockingjay pt.2 ), and two at home (6 Years, (500) Days of Summer). All three where so good that I decided to write about them.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
Stories are magic; that’s what my old literature told me. They can transport you to the furthest reaches of space, to the far distant past, to the arms of a lover, to the death of your comrades, even if it is all a lie. He was right: Stories are magic, they are the one magical thing we have in this world. Movies are the best way to tell a story; to show the world your story, to make your story -- your lie, you untrue truth -- beautiful, to make it terrible, ugly, bold, stunning, unbelievable, and most importantly, to make them real. I love film. It is my passion, my life; I was raised on them, before I could walk my mom had put Star Wars in my little VHS tv. I know I am meant to make movies, but in their current state, they infuriate me.
I was fascinated with all the nuances associated with movies: the actors, the scenery, the cinematography, the glamour, and the drama behind the films. When I was younger, I loved viewing Film Noir classics. They were fascinating. I especially loved the dark lighting, the shadowy techniques, the private eyes, the femme fatale, and the hard-boiled fiction movie scripts.
Do you like watching a romance unfold? How about a man performing feats that are superhuman? Maybe a group of teenagers being stalked by a raging lunatic? If any of these things sound appealing then you may be a fan of movies. Film has been an important part of American culture since it's inception. From the clothes that you wear and the music that you listen too; movies had a hand in it. It has also given people a respite from the monotony of daily life. Movies have been such an influence on our lives it is important to know how motion pictures took a hold of our imaginations and have changed over the years.
Movies hold great importance in my life, but not for reasons that one would expect. Back in the fall of 2011, my mom and I reluctantly accepted our new reality, which meant that a house fit for five would only hold two for a large portion of the year. Since both of my siblings were attending college and my father was working countless hours of overtime at General Electric, we found ourselves alone for days at a time. Both of us knew that, eventually, silence's cold hands would take hold of our sanity. The stale air, the slow ticking of the clock, the loneliness- we needed a way to escape it. Movies became our solution.
First and foremost, movies have always been a big part of life. I will run to see a particular movie, or sit back and watch classics before I run to sit in front of a TV. It’s something about movies that seem to always touch on
Throughout the fall 2015 semester here at Stony Brook, two films have stood out among the rest and have had a lasting impression on me through which I will remember for the rest of my life. The first film may not be a true film watchers choice for it being so old, however it has really let me see the past through its filmmaking and has released my inner Olympic sprit. The second film is the complete opposite, it is a much newer film and was the first film I saw in this class that made me look forward to future films. The second film was based off a non-fiction bestseller about a brutal murder of a innocent Kansas family. Though completely different film genres, these two will forever be my favorite films viewed in our Monday film watching
The medium of film and storytelling processes as a whole have intrigued me for as long as I can remember. I am always captivated by films that successfully explore a variety of themes whilst presenting complex and interesting narrative and characters. These films also provide the entertainment and excitement that I find infinitely fascinating. I find the process of creating stories through to the film making and editing very motivating and exciting, especially when reviewing the end product.
Ready. Set. Action! There have been approximately 2,085,556,628 movies ever created. I love movies and classics like the Wizard of Oz that shaped the future for film making for years to come. Then there are those special inspirational movies found on Netflix such as Pay it Forward, that are like those important people we meet in our life that have a dramatic impact on how we live. They are each different and unique movies. Yet, there is one common thread – in some way they each describe me.
I decided to convert this pastime into a hobby by watching the 250 highest rated movies ever made. It took me three years (nearly 2 movies a week), but it was so worth it. These movies ranged from “boring” silent movies of the 1920s to the mainstream movies of today. Watching such diverse movies pushed me out of my comfort zone— my tastes developed and ultimately it became a life-changing experience. #SecondDegreeHappiness
Once the movie was over I felt so enlightened and judging by what my mother was about to tell me, so did she. It was dark outside and the parking lot was mostly empty. We got in the car, clicked on
