Swimming with Dolphins It was one of those stupid charity things. The carnival had just gone past and a load of fireman appeared out of nowhere. I don’t remember how many of them exactly, but they all started walking around the crowd shaking buckets at people, collecting for one of those ‘make a wish’ children’s charities. I didn’t give them anything. They never came up to me because I was stood near the back, so it wasn’t really my fault, but I wouldn’t have given them anything anyway. I hate those make a wish things. It’s always swimming with dolphins or going to Disney World, isn’t it? I swam with dolphins once. Maybe I was too old for it or maybe I wasn’t in the right mood at the time, but I thought it was terrible. It wasn’t a wish being fulfilled or anything like that, we just did it on a holiday to Florida, and yes we went to Disney World too, and yes that was also terrible, but I’ll talk about that some other time. They probably thought it would make me happy, swimming with dolphins, you know, give me a memorable experience, all of that, and I suppose they succeeded there because I do remember everything about it, but not for the reasons they must have been hoping for when they arranged it. I was thirteen then and one morning, right near the end of our holiday, dad drove us all to the coast. Mum said we were going for a day out at the beach, but she was one of the worst liars you’d ever met. It was the first week of August and it was absolutely roasting in the car.
The first day we got there we just hanged out at the hotel all day. It was 78 degrees Fahrenheit and sunny. It was 8AM in the morning when I saw the pool. Now at first I was very disappointed that it was shutdown because they needed to put chemicals in it. At 11 it finally opened up and I was WOWED. The Pool was amazing. It was sparkling Blue and the water was as clear as glass. That's why we stayed in it all day. The second day we went to Sea World. We hadn't been to Sea World yet until that day where we learned why it's one of the best Disney parks. We entered at the gate where we saw the ride of a lifetime The Manta. The Manta is a ride that makes you go backwards on almost the whole ride. It is the scariest ride I have ever seen. None of my family did that for just that reason. First we went to the Dolphin show which was really cool. It was so cool because the actors and actresses would jump into the water and the Dolphins would come out and do tricks on them like skiing on top of them, and making them wave to the crowd. Then we to another show which is called Shamu. Shamu is a show about Wales that do all these tricks like splash us. I forgot to tell you but Garrett, Chloe, and I were all sitting in the splash zone and we were watching the Wales do all these tricks when the Disney people told us to get ready and Garrett and I didn't have enough time to react and two seconds later all of a sudden we got tsunamified, so soaked that there wasn't a single dry spot on my shirt. After that Chloe started crying and I had to bring her up to mom and dad who were in the last row of the stadium. Chloe was not happy for that part of the trip at Sea World. After both those shows it started raining so we finished up are day at going in a virtual helicopter and seeing all the Penguins and the Arctic Animals which was pretty cool. As soon as we got in the pilot we cranked that baby up until the heat felt like Florida instead of Maine. Speaking of Maine
The theme between the pod, can animals feel and think , and bats! is to care about others.
We asked our dad if we could go scuba diving and he said yes. My dad found a place where they would provide equipment and teach you how to do it. I have never done this before and I was a little nervous, but I was kind of excited at the same time. Once we got to the place, they showed us how to work the equipment and what to do. I got very nervous again and I do not know why. We got in the water and everything was alright. It was the clearest water I have ever seen in my entire life. The fish were so colorful and the reef was filled with all sorts of interesting plant life. I was about to find out why I was so nervous before. Everything was going according to plan until one bad thing happened to me. I was in the ocean and I swallowed a bunch of water and could not breathe. I started to panic and thrashed in the water to get someone’s attention. I got the attention of my brother, and he pulled me up out of the water and I spit it out. That was the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me and I vow never to scuba dive ever again. After that scary moment happened, the rest of the vacation was great. We went to the beach and pool every day and the rest of the vacation was
It was the day after my sister's Quinceanera, and all my family was here. They were leaving back to their homes Monday morning, so keep in mind it is Sunday. All of our parents were talking outside and saw that us kids didn’t really have anything to do, so they decide to take us to a river that was 5 minutes away from my aunt's ranch. We packed up all our food and stuff and went right away.
When i went Destin, Florida. I went to Florida this summer after school was out . We went with my sisters best friend, and my best friend’s family. We drove from Arkansas all the way to Destin, Florida. The day we got there we went straight to the beach! It was the first time I had ever seen the ocean! The following day we decided to go down to the smoothie shack and get a smoothie then swim in the pool. The grown ups went to the beach while we were at the pool.
It had to be 100 degrees. I was sweating really bad. I decided to listen to music so I put on my favorite playlist and started listening. I took my shirt off because it was getting wet from my sweat. I then began to move the trampoline and lounge chairs away from the yard so I could mow.
This year, during Spring break my family and I ventured to California, the land of Starbucks and In-N-Out Burger. Our trip started out at Sea World, and my younger brother insisted we go to the Shark Encounter exhibit. Once we arrived my parents let my brother
Bottlenose dolphins are among the most familiar cetaceans, just as whales. The Bottlenose dolphin is a primitive member of the subfamily Delphinine. Bottlenose dolphins are grey, varying from dark grey at the top near the dorsal fin to very light grey and almost white at the underside. There are two ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins the coastal and the offshore. The Coastal dolphin has a small body and large flippers to increase agility and heat dissipation. They have a limited movement into offshore waters and like shallow warm water near the shore. Coastal dolphins for the most part remain in their region. The Offshore dolphin has a large body to help conserve heat and defend itself against predators. They are less restricted in range and movement and like deep, cold waters. Offshore dolphins in the North Atlantic have migratory patterns that follow prey distribution. Bottlenose dolphins live in groups typically of 10–30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single individuals up to more than 1,000. In a case study performed by Randall Wells who is the leader of the longest study of dolphin population since 1970, it was discovered that there are three main factors that influence migration: Seasonal changes in prey location, predation pressure and reproductive requirements. (Wells, 1980). In the fall dolphins follow mullet fish when they migrate from the bays into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. Dolphins experience the most predation pressure during the summer when
After beating the New England Patriots 20-10 to close out a disappointing 6-10 season, the NFL's Miami Dolphins are at a crossroads. They obviously have holes to fill on defense and in the offensive backfield if they want to get back to a level where they can actually compete for a playoff spot. That said, Dolphins' owner Steve Ross has a bigger issue he needs to address before worrying about player personnel.
I is for In South Carolina. Last summer me and my family went on vacation to myrtle South Carolina. It was a lot of fun we for to see the ocean for the second time. It took us 19 hours to get there. We stopped at some cool places on the way there. One place we stopped at was a cave it was a 2 mile walk for there through the cave and back. Once we got to Myrtle beach we took some of our stuff Into the hotel. Then my mom, brother, dad and got our passes to go out on the pier. We first went out onto the pier and then we went down to the ocean. We spent all day there and then we ate at the restaurant on the pier entrance.
One Thursday while they were here my mom, the five girls, and my two younger brothers piled into our minivan and drove to a nearby boat dock to swim. The temperatures were soaring at a coma-inducing 95 degrees, and the sun was sweltering. I was miserable and sweaty. Once we got there the big girls took off our outer layer of clothes and took a picture to post on social media later. Then, as I got my towel out and ready for when I
On December 22, I volunteered with Centre 55 through Minga. Our group put together boxes of food and moved supplies into trucks to be brought to where we would donate them. These boxes had food for a holiday dinner as well as other supplies, that particularly seniors are unable to get themselves. Once we had packed the trucks, we went to a few apartment buildings and brought it to the doors of the people. One challenge was that the boxes were heavy, and we were having a hard time carrying them to people’s doors. My group decided to take turns carrying the heaviest box so that everyone had a chance carrying the lighter bags. When residents of the building saw us, they were happy we were helping out, and this personally motivated me more.
It was dark outside. Clouds loomed over the skies as I walked into the enormous colorful building. Blazing rays of LED lights shone through the entrance’s translucent windows. Brightness and gleams engulfed my vision like a wildfire. My eyes blink, trying to focus where I was walking. As I paced myself through the crowded corridors of the large hallway trying to find my group of friends, I could see murals of sea animals everywhere and signs directing where each exhibit was. Animated and overjoyed, I pranced to the first exhibit where the baby sand sharks were. They were extraordinary, swimming around their tank but sadly not able to leave their confined space. Their tank only allowed them to swim continuously in circles. Although animals in captivity tend to live longer than animals in the wild, it is depressing to mull over how they were stripped of their freedom. There was nowhere to escape when housed in such small enclosures.
My hands dangle in mid-air, my googles snug against the border of my eyes, my mind empty as I stare into the sea of blue before me. The announcers voice echoes over the seemingly quiet deck. The faceless voice proceeds, “On your mark,” this sent the anxiety, and butterflies through my entire body as I gripped the rigged block. As my hands rest now on this pleated surface, I think of all the time and effort I had put in just for today. I knew that if everything went smoothly, I would drop a satisfactory amount of time. “Get set,” the changeless voice declares. My body now shifts my weight to my legs, my head moves into position, and my hands grip the block so bearish that my knuckles turn white. I repeat to myself, “two hand touch, it’s a
It was the summer of 1977, and my father decided to pack the station wagon and drive from Fort Worth to Tampa, Florida. Besides my parents in the vehicle, my two sisters and brother also joined us for the long journey. I was young and excited and did not realize the distance my father would be driving on this trip. We made two stops on the way down and the first one was in Mississippi at a Holiday Inn. My first time spending the night the night at a hotel occurred on this vacation, and I was excited. We had adjoining rooms with my parents, and we spent the evening in the pool and watching television all night. I was never aware of my parents’ finances but I know now, we did not have a lot of money. From Mississippi, we stopped again in Tallahassee, Florida and we swam in the ocean during the afternoon and hit the hotel pool in the
