“Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice”. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two young lovers take their lives. After falling in love, Romeo and Juliet discover that their families are sworn enemies. The “star-crossed lovers” continue their relationship secretly, until complications make suicide a choice. Frair Lawrence should not be blamed because he had Romeo and Juliet’s best interest at heart. Romeo and Juliet’s impulsive and irresponsible actions let to their own tragic deaths. Romeo’s feelings greatly impacted the outcome of the story. His impulsiveness caused him to fall in and out of love too fast. Juliet’s parent’s thought moving up her wedding date with Paris would cure her depression and make her happy. Capulet wondered “Doth she not count her blest, Unworthy as she is, that we have wrought so worthy of a gentleman to be her bride?” (3. 3. 144-46) Little did he know, the wedding made her even more depressed and unhappy. If this had not occurred then Juliet would not have faked her own death, which caused the suicides of both Romeo and Juliet. Therefore Romeo and Juliet are at fault for their own deaths because they kept their love a secret. Friar Lawrence should not have been blamed for the death of Romeo and Juliet. He should not be blamed for giving Juliet the potion because she threatened to kill her self if he didn’t. She said “Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it/ If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help/ Do thou but call my resolution wise/ And with this knife I’ll help it presently”(4.1 51-54). Friar Lawrence did not want Juliet to kill herself so he was forced to give her the potion. He intended on Romeo being together happily, and alive. His plan was unsuccessful because it was not in his hands. Friar warned them when they got married "therefore, love moderately; long love doth so"(2.6 12). He warned Romeo not get too carried away with their love, and to love Juliet calmly and sensibly. Romeo did not listen to his advice and made tragic decisions without thinking. All in All Romeo and
