I would like to propose a class entitled Analyzing Political Science Statistics, that would be offered through the Statistics Department as an Honors College class. This class would prepare students to analyze the types of statistics they would be looking at if they worked for a government agency or an agency that prepared statistics about topics, such as a president's approval rating. This class would add variety to the math classes that are offered by the Honors College since most of the math classes tend to be classes that are offered to all University of South Carolina students, but at an Honors College level.
The targeted group of students for this class would students who have declared a major in statistics or political science; however, any Honors College student would be encouraged to take this class. This would be a good math class for students who have declared a major in political science to take, as this math class would focus on applying statistical skills to topics that are relevant to their major. Statistics majors who would like to work for government agencies or organizations, such as Gallup, would gain experience calculating statistics that are similar to the statistics they would be calculating once they graduate and secure a job with one of these organizations. The students who take this class would also have the opportunity to conduct their own statistical research project. This project would act as a final exam and would allow the students to apply
The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives is calculated based on a state’s adult population,
Prior to this course I have used statistics in my professional life. During my previous employment at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine I worked in the student admissions which made my primary job focus the student application process. This process required me to compile statistical information on our applicant pool for faculty and administrative staff to determine who would be accepted. This statistical data included both categorical data, such as current grade level in undergraduate studies, gender, and ethnicity, as well as numerical data such as age, GPAs, average number of courses taken in a semester, credit hours completed, and test scores (Mirabella, 2011). After the admissions process was completed, these different
To view the research on a nominal scale, the research data can be drawn from the type of class. The word nominal is derived from the root word in Latin for name (Usable Stats, 2013). The name of the class, Psychological Statistics, is the nominal measurement for this research. When conducting this study, the study will only be measured during the course of this specific class. The results could drastically change when considering another type of class such as Quantitative Literacy as the cognitive understanding of such a collegic math class may be more optimal through a different course-delivery format.
Assuming unequal variances, the two sampled t-Test was applied on the data sets of female and male shoe sizes with the alpha value of 0.05. The null hypothesis was that the female and male shoe sizes have an equal mean while the alternative hypothesis was that female and male shoe sizes do not have an equal mean. With the degrees of freedom being 27, the t-statistic is -8.16. The probability that -8.16 is ≤ -1.70 is 4.5×10-9 for the one-tailed test. Also, the probability that -8.16 is ≤ ±2.05. is 9.1×10-9 for the two-tailed test. Given that both probabilities are under the alpha value of 0.05, the null hypothesis is therefore rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted at the 95% confidence level.
The Electoral College consists of elected representatives (electors) that vote for the president and vice president of the United States. Every state has a number of presidential electors that meet in their respective state capitals in December following popular presidential election. The number of presidential electors each state gets depends on the state’s population. The number of electors is exactly the same as the total number of the state’s senators, which is based on population, plus the number of its representatives in congress (Bromwich, 2016). California has the most electoral votes (55) and nine states have the minimum of three votes (Distribution, 2016).
AP Statistics is a great start to further your education in a math-related field. As this class will look impressive on your transcript and there is a possibility of college credit if you score well enough on the AP exam with accords to your college choice standards. The course will provide an in-depth overview of exploring data, sampling and experimentation, anticipating patterns, and statistical inference. You will study statistics and apply it to intricate problems.
My program of study is obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. In this course I will be taking the some of the following classes, Marriage and family, Intro to Probability and Statistics, Intro to Social work, Christian Worldview, etc. Intro to Probability and Statistics studies different variables of probability, and distribution. I believe I will like this class because I want to study the reasoning of people’s actions.
In addition, my experience of the class provided a significant challenge with regard to the understanding of the factor that is crucial in developing survey research questions. In fact, during the course I had the opportunity to research a very significant topic that relates the need for work-life balance. The knowledge of creating curves, graphs, and pie-charts was important through the need for interpreting
I will be a grading for a couple of political science courses for the semester. The hours I work depend on the amount of work assigned. Every week varies from 10-20 hours per week. Since my business degree has a concentration in Public Service and Public Policy, I am required to take this class, but nonetheless this is material I am very interested in learning more about. An expectation I have for this course is get a better understanding of how public service and public policy works and the process. I am excited for what the class has to offer and contribute some my experiences in class
As my transcripts reveal, I have taken substantial courses in both statistics and mathematics. Three years' painstaking study equipped me with a solid mathematical foundation and a deeper understanding of Statistics. I vividly recall the excitement of exchanging ideas with my peers and the achievement of solving questions independently. Moreover, sharing my passion, I helped some of my classmates for the preparation of final exams. I taught them the methods of regression analysis, the connection between stochastic processes and time series, and wide application of mathematical statistics, etc. Through teaching them, my devotion to Statistics became even deeper. In the final evaluation, I received scores above 90 in those statistical lessons. More importantly, my understanding was largely consolidated and
In this mathematical circumstance, it is appropriate to use the Normal Model with this data distribution because of how roughly symmetric and unimodal. The summary statistics for the OB Math SAT scores are as follow: the number of values is 287, the mean of the data is 553.62369, the standard deviation is of approximately 65.984512, the median of the data is 540, the range of the data is 390, the minimum value is 360, the maximum value is 750, the first quartile of the data is 510, and the second quartile of the data is 590. To calculate the percent of students that had an SAT math score higher than 560, I used the z-score formula which is z-score= raw score- mean/ standard deviation and plugged the values for each variable. After
So many people complain about all the math, how boring it is, and how everything about it is awful. This is mostly just seems like it is because they don’t understand. Even Alan Smith reportedly was awful at statistics and computer programming, but his quiz which, changed the perspective of over 250,000 people, managed to change his mind. This is fascinating to me. Although I have never taken statistics, I have a predetermined mindset that statistics is not worth taking. I have always been told to take calculus or linguistics or anything else but statistics, because every other class is easier and has a more defined purpose, especially for my major. No one has ever mentioned the impact that statistics can have on people, however. That is what made this Ted Talk so interesting.
Political science is a broad topic that covers the history, political and geographical aspect of the world. The course started with a revision on the basics of the constitution, types of power and the political scene that happens around us. My first year at the University, one of the compulsory subject that is required for arts taking students is Political Science 1101. After several years of taking social or political course, taking this course opened my knowledge towards politics and the political scene in Canada. It also taught me about how different ways of information taking could lead to one learning differently from others. For example this class gave us the opportunity to use our laptops as a source of note taking, this helped me learn in which whenever a new vocabulary comes up during the class discussions i could search it up. Through “The Road to Patriation” and Kim Campbell “Through the Looking Glass” i would further emphasize my ideas on what i have learnt throughout the course semester.
A major in political science prepares students for law school, government employment on the local, state and national levels, foreign service, teaching, business, journalism, or leadership in civic and political activities. For pre-law students, the department provides a series of law-related courses. There is a pre-law adviser and an active Pre-law Society that enable students to make close and direct contact with the work of attorneys and judges. Moreover political science is important since it makes citizens familiar with their legal system.
The study of politics had its roots in philosophy and while there has been a drive to steer the study of politics towards a more scientific approach, many scholars like Max Weber believe that social sciences cannot simply imitate the natural sciences. This essay will examine the various approaches to applying scientific methodology to the study of politics and it will specifically explore Behaviorism, Positivism and Interpretivism and by looking at each methodology briefly explore the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
