Despite advances the United States continues to have high morbidity rates of individuals with chronic illness. Adding to the rates, many Americans are suffering from mental health disorders. The issue caused many research studies to focus on integrating behavioral health and primary care in order to reduce health disparities in the nation. This paper will analyze how the integration of behavioral health in primary care facilities help serve the need of our population.

Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) is a program that provides comprehensive community counseling to individuals diagnosed with a debilitating mental illness. It is federally funded by the State of Florida Department of Children and Families and serves a clientele of 100 adults in the Volusia and Flagler County areas. It is a derivative of the Program of Assertive Treatment (PACT) which was developed in Wisconsin in the 1970s when deinstitutionalization was a major practice in the mental health field. This outpatient program is rehabilitation and recovery oriented. FACT is unique in that it is the only service available that offers a housing, medication, and flexible funding subsidy to enrolled individuals which help to integrate them back into mainstream civilization to be productive members of society—reducing hospitalization, homelessness, and criminal incarceration among the mentally ill.

There are many governmental agencies within the healthcare system. One of most interesting and heart-wrenching agencies is a local governmental agency called Terrell State Mental Hospital. This agency is well known in the state of Texas for its carefree healthcare. They have a longstanding relationship with the families of its patients and are a major contributor to the city of Terrell’s financial windfall. They produce over ten million a year for the city of Terrell, which allows this city to take care of its mental inpatients and make sure they have the best treatment possible.

The social service agency chosen to profile in this essay is COPE Community Services. They are located in Tucson Arizona and have many locations around town to better service and provide convenience for members. They provide integrated care for members. COPE's services include behavioral health, opioid treatment, medical services, therapy, youth services, and community health services. COPE accepts a wide range of members seeking services from the general mental health to severely mentally ill population. An Intake is completed to identify services for members. COPE accepts insurances from AHCCCS, Medicare, Tricare, and other contracted private insurances.

The reporting party (RP) disclosed that Taylor Trusheim DOB: 4/3/99 was brought into Sutter/Yuba Behavioral Health for a Triage appointment to assess for possible services. Prior to the appointment Taylor's mother La Vonne Bettencourt received a call from a family member who brought up an incident which occurred when she was 4 years old. The family member mentioned an incident where the child was molested by the daycare provider's husband Bret Baker. However, the two agencies differ with regard to their specific focuses. The Mayhill Hospital specifically provides mental health services for the area of Denton, Texas. It is a private psychiatric hospital that specializes in the provision of therapy for mental health issues and rehabilitative treatment for chemical dependency. The population served by the hospital includes adults and senior citizens. Some of the programs offered by the hospital include therapy for mental health disorders, treatment for sleep disorders, counseling, suicide prevention, and chemical dependency programs. The care provided by the services offered by the Mayhill Hospital is compassionate, supportive, and is designed to meet each patient's unique and individual needs.
