Dexter had to keep a sample of blood from each person he killed, and it is the first thing he had to do before killing the person, it was his reminder of the kill. Dexter dated a damage woman, Rita Bennett, who had two kids and a husband who was in and out of the jail; Rita’s husband, Paul, abused her and he was addicted to drugs. Dexter didn’t feel much of anything for Rita, her children, or his adopted sister, Debra Morgan, but he had the need to protect them. Debra was on the same police force as Dexter and she was a detective that was always unknowingly on Dexter’s trail. James Doakes was also on the Miami Metro Police and Doakes did not trust Dexter. Doakes was always suspicious of Dexter and believes that there was something wrong with Dexter. They can also have psychotherapy where the patient learns about their disorder so they know the effects it has on themselves and others. Another form of therapy is cognitive therapy where the therapist sets guidelines for the patients involvement such as regular attendance and completion of any work needed to be done outside of therapy. Treatment is very difficult for antisocial personality disorder because the patients have low frustration tolerance, rarely form trusting relationships and are impulsive so it's hard to get them to do things they might but want to
Jeffrey Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 in West Allis,Wisconsin. He and his parents, Lionel Dahmer and Joyce Annette, were an average american family who strived for the best. Jeffrey’s father was a graduate student who wanted to pursue a career as an analytical chemist. His mother worked as a teletype machine instructor. However, Jeffrey Dahmer’s mother was not a stable women. She had a history of psychological problems which meant that her son was susceptible to mental illness due to genetic factors. Growing up, Jeffrey had trouble with interacting with his peers. He also had a peculiar fascination with dead animals and “according to his father, his son was ‘oddly thrilled’ by the sound the bones made and instantly developed a fixation for playing with and collecting animal bones (“Jeffrey Dahmer” Wikipedia).” As he got older, he developed an addiction to alcohol. He started drinking heavily during high school which negatively affected his grades. Another issue that Dahmer faced in his early life was
Dexter starts as a lower class and Judy starts as an upper class when they first interact. Expectations are assumed, such as the upper class sees the lower class as servants and the lower class sees upper class as ridiculous. When they meet in the middle, they conflict in their lower and upper classes. After Dexter leaves for college, Judy stays in the upper class and he slowly joins the upper class. When he comes back home, he and Judy interact and become friends. However, when Dexter realizes that Judy misuses him and treats him badly, he leaves her even though he loves her. Because he’s part of the upper class and is able to, Dexter goes to parties and clubs where he forgets about her and mingles with other high class members, eventually finding a fiancee named Irene Scheerer. Soon, Judy comes back looking for the Dexter, “I wish you’d marry me.” This is an example of collision between classes. Judy now recognizes how rich Dexter really is and wants him. After the war, Dexter is talking to a man named Delvin who mentions the wife of one of his friends, “‘Judy Simms,’ said Delvin with no particular interest; ‘Judy Jones she was once.’” Delvin mentions how he is sorry for her, which surprises Dexter. He is told Judy married into the lower class to a man who “drinks and runs around.” In Winter Dreams, the lower and upper class characters interact, meet, conflict, and soon split. Judy Jones and Dexter Green have
I believe we as a society are intrigued with shows like Dexter because they allow us a temporary escape from reality. A reality in which we witness injustices occur in our court systems such as a legal loop hole allowing a guilty person to essentially walk free and justice not being served for the victim. I will attempt to explain why these characters are thriving as pop culture icons.
Dexter is a televesion program that debued in 2006. It follows a middle aged man named Dexter Morgan who works for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department as a blood splater anilyst. To his friends and co-workers he seems like a normal man albeit a little socially awkward. This is far from the truth however as Dexter is actually a serial killer. Thourghout the series we are given insits into Dexters past to explain how and why he became a serial killer. The main reason is reviled to be the fact that when he was three years old he witnessed the brutal murder of his mother in front of him. This lead to him being adopted by the police officer who found him. Its was not long after he was adopted that his adoptive father started noticing signs that Dexter had antisocial personality disorder such as killing animals. Instead of taking Dexter to get the help that he needed he decided to take matters into his own hands. He trained Dexter how to kill people and get away with it; however, he tought him to only kill murderers who he thought had escaped punishment.
Dexter has a steady job as a forensic scientist for the Miami police department, meaning his does not have the trait of parasitic lifestyle. He has not been shown as irresponsible, as he is employed and is excellent at his job. He does not have poor behavioural control as he I careful. Dexter describes as uninterested in sexuality.
Dexter is the protagonist of the entire series. He is very intelligent, a seemingly average person. Working as a blood splatter analysis expert for the Miami metro police merely using this as a facade of his psychotic self. Dexter is a serial killer. Porter Abbott suggests that Dexter is a round,
On the other hand, Dexter also had positive impacts on society. The show allowed its audience to be able to understand more on why people are violent by giving insight on the mind of Dexter. By being able to see what Dexter feels and thinks it educates audience on how a psychopath thinks. In the show Dexter has trouble fitting into society because, “unlike most characters on television, Dexter is unable to feel raw emotion or make any kind of emotional bond. He is completely apathetic and as a result, most of his problems come from dealing with drama on the outside world, rather than internally”(hubpage.com). What differentiates psychopaths from typical people is the fact that they are unable to feel. Besides, while psychoanalyzing the identity
Dexter was very driven toward success, however carefully construed his decisions to do precisely what he wanted rather than what others wanted. First of all, he ceased caddying because he did not want to do it, at least after running into Judy Jones. He also denied a prestigious
Lastly, the actual storyline is not cliché. Dexter is addicting and chilling, while keeping the viewer guessing. It is one of these shows that is very hard to solve. It keeps the audience interested and always leaves the ending with a significant event, creating a need to watch more. The plot is set up uniquely, keeping the viewer interested within each episode. The climax is usually at the end, in order to persuade into ‘sticking’ around for more. It is a difficult accomplishment to draw the audience into loving a serial killer. But Dexter is one of a few shows that does not thrust or force this love towards him upon the audience.
His father confronts Dexter at an early age, about a crime Dexter had committed. Dexter had killed a dog due to the dog barking and it having to annoying his mother. Later on in his life, Dexter’s father finds a pack of knifes and other weapons (one of whom has blood on it) which belong to Dexter. Dexter points out that he has used these weapons to kill animals and not humans so that he can supress his blood lust. It then is revealed his blood lust has been with him before he was even adopted and most likely Dexter was born with the blood lust.
Serial killers take pride in what they do, and it’s almost like a hobby for them. In the first episode of Dexter, Dexter is painted as a normal detective, but it’s soon revealed that he’s far from being just a regular detective. Dexter is a
The mind of a monster Who is Dexter? Dexter Morgan (early 30 's) is a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro police department (His younger sister Debra is a detective in the department) but he has a secret. He murders people in his free time. He sticks to a strict code that was taught to him by his foster father who knew that Dexter would be a killer since he was a child. This code is a guide that tells him to only kill other killers but not get caught in the process. Although Dexter only kills bad people, he still takes pleasure in killing and has his own ritual that he executes on his victims. He is a master of disguising his true self from the rest of society so on the
The way Dexter lives his day to day life and plans his kills can be describe and explained through the Big Five personality traits. If you were to rate Dexter based on these traits by only using information from the point of view of his coworkers and others he interacts with, you would rate him like a typical person; high in agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness and low in extroversion and neuroticism. However, if you were to rate him based on a scene showing one of his kills you would rate him as the opposite; high in neuroticism and extroversion.
At the beginning of his life Dexter has shown early behavioural problems. His father confronts Dexter at an early age, about a atrocity Dexter had committed. Dexter had slain a dog due to the dog barking and it having to annoying his mother. Afterward in his life, Dexter’s father discovers a pack of knifes and other weapons (one of whom has blood on it) which belong to Dexter. Dexter points out that he has used these weapons to kill animals and not humans in order to suppress his urge to slaughter. It is formally revealed that his bloodlust has been with him before he was even adopted and presumably Dexter was born with the bloodlust. Psychopaths, unlike a sociopath, are born psychopathy and not transformed into it thus Dexter may have been
Dexter is able to murder two males in the episode and in both circumstances he shows a lack of remorse and guilt. His reason for the killings is because the men have done horrendous deeds in society and in his opinion they deserve to die. What is interesting about Dexter here is that he has no feelings while he slaughters the men. Dexter is once again, able to keep calm, slice the body parts and likely enjoys doing it. Also, later in the episode after he has killed one of the men, he simply puts the dead man’s foot in a trashcan and then he receives a phone call. Additionally Dexter calmly and easily picks up and talks like nothing has happened behind him. How can a human do such a crude crime and not only feel “good” about it but also show
