Innovations are improvements in tools or items that have already been discovered or created. An example of an advanced civilization would be Classical China, which had the innovation canal building. Canal building is an innovation, because it is an improved version of transporting water. Another example of an advanced civilization would be the Persians and Romans. The Persians and Romans had the innovation of road construction. This makes them advanced civilizations because they improved their ways of transportation. Transportation was then easier and faster, because of the roads these civilizations created. A third example of what makes a civilization advanced would be when civilizations strengthened their trade routes. This was an innovation because at the start of trade it was with only one or two civilizations nearby. According to the New World Encyclopedia, Civilization refers to a complex human society, in which people live in groups of settled dwellings comprising cities. Whit that being said, the conception that Europeans discovered the Americas is wrong. The Mesoamericas had a complex civilization built, so complex many of their discoveries and accomplishments are used in todays society. Although the routes of migration are not completely sure, people migrated from Asia into the Americas through the Bering Strait 12,000 B.C.
Early humans began to form small groups that created a simple culture for survival; however, as human cultures grew, civilizations formed. A civilization is an intricate culture where large numbers of people contribute a variety of traditional components. Historians came up with seven basic characteristics of civilization. The seven are as follows: an urban focus, new political and military structures, a new social structure based on economic power, the development of more complexity in a material sense, a distinct religious structure, the development of writing, and new significant artistic and intellectual activity (Pg.8).
Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China all are the four main ones that brought hope to establishment. They all share their areas of discovers in common, as they were all discovered by a river. The four are not the only cradles of civilizations either, as new discoveries emerge, so do signs of settlers in new societies. Ancient civilizations made some important contributions to our life today. They started around 3500 BC. Ancient civilizations also achieved many things. Some of those things were new inventions, the use of new technology, writing systems and architectural skills. Two of the many civilizations that did these things were the Chinese and Egyptians.
Civilization. The word “civilization” comes from the Latin term for “city.” The first civilizations were the river-valley civilizations, so-called because they all developed alongside major rivers to secure an adequate water supply for agricultural production. 2 of the greatest river-valley civilizations were Mesopotamia and Egypt. All though they both supported having a patriarchal leader or king, Egypt had a strong, centralized government, whereas Mesopotamia was decentralized, and built based on small city-states operating independently.
Ancient river valley civilizations are one of the earliest societies in the world. The rises of these ancient river valley civilizations started the first cradle of civilization. The Indus Valley Civilization, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient China are the earliest civilizations that were successful enough to make enough food for everybody. Every one of these civilizations had three things in common: they all had a special relationship with the river, they created their own writing system, and they all relied on trade.
The complex societies and civilizations that the world is made up of today, were formed and shaped by groups of smaller traditional societies of the past. These small traditional civilizations that popped up and evolved all around the world in all sorts of different areas and locations laid the stepping stones for life as we know it today. While the civilizations did not necessarily press their values on others, other societies saw valuable practices and took them on themselves. One unique traditional society that has had a lasting impact on the world is the ancient Maya civilization. What makes the Mayans and their society a unique civilization were their economic activities, social arrangements, and political organizations which all helped their society develop over time, thus helped future civilizations to come to flourish using their ideas and traditions.

Some of the first ancient societies known are the Mesopotamia, Sumer and Ancient Egypt. Egyptian civilization from its roots to its deterioration was based on the Nile River and the Sahara desert around it. The Nile River also gave a more optimistic view to Egyptian culture, as it was seen as a never dying reward because of its regular menacing floods that brought tons of rich sediments to replenish the banks; most of the population was based on the river banks as Egypt was surrounded by the desert.
According to archaeologist in order to be defined as a civilization certain criteria must be met. Early archaeologists believed in order to be considered a civilization a society must have cultural superiority, which meant they must have the ability to read and write. If this was the sole criteria used to judge if a society was labeled a civilization, then you could say the Inca of South America, who constructed cities on top of mountains and had a complex system of irrigation canals, were not one because they did not have a system for reading or writing. Modern archaeologists now think of civilization as not better but different. The modern definition of civilization consists of the development of cities,

Many elements must come together before a human community develops into a level of civilization. The first step would be a place to settle, build towns and cities. This process would require food production and also rules that would keep all the people together and well organized, to put all these steps together someone would have to come up with strong and smart ideas in order to please everybody without harming the rest. Civilization in europe flourished from powerful ideas like christianity and democracy.
