Going out and being given the opportunity to perform cholesterol, blood glucose, and A1C testing under the supervision of a pharmacist is an excellent opportunity to learn the skills needed to be a pharmacist. I believe that hand-on learning experience is the best way for me to develop professionally and become a successful pharmacist. For me I like to learn about things in class then go out and be able to apply my skills in practice. Duquesne Pharmacy provided the free screening at the event; the pharmacy is associated with Duquesne University. Duquesne University gave students the opportunity to participate in the screening events offered by Duquesne Pharmacy. By using students to give free screening, the pharmacy can save money at the same time giving the students an opportunity to apply their skills. I believe that the limitation facing Duquesne Pharmacy is that it is not very well know. The pharmacy is located in the Hill District, so it may be known in their community, but I’m not sure if other nearby communities knows that they exist. The pharmacy also offers many free programs and screenings that the general population may no know about. I did not know what the Duquesne Pharmacy had to offer until I sat down and talked to some of the staff members about what they do on a daily basis.
