I just have to respond, these incidents are deplorable, and I hope you get those responsible. I would like to address what feel personally concerning this issue. Over the years, I have witnessed many blatantly discriminatory issues at LWTech. Why can’t we keep faculty of color here! I have had the honor of working with some the finest instructor (biology) and program heads. I know there are always two side to a story, but what I see is, onside always gets the short end of the stick. Then we have an instructor (white) who treat women poorly, but just keeps teaching qtr. after qtr. I also witnessed how the “school” doesn’t value student/staff who are not native speakers. I can recall may times hearing disparaging remarks about my wife’s
In “Something Wicked This Way Comes” there are both an internal and external conflict shown through Will Halloway. Will deals with the internal conflict of how to step up and help everyone. “He bit his knuckles... lay back cold..straight stiff on his bed” (Bradbury91). This textual evidence proves that when the carnival comes to town and begins to take over Charles and Jim, Will has no idea what to do. He lays in bed during a sleepless night trying to convince himself that stepping up will be best for everyone. However, he realizes that he isn’t brave enough to do so, so he struggles with himself about how to become what he wants to be. “Will stirred, restively” (Bradbury93). This piece of evidence once again confirms that Will is beginning to overthink and doubt himself about being able to save his father and Jim. It grows to be a huge inner conflict against himself and what he should do. Another internal conflict for Will is seen with his father. “sometimes I wish we’d never..” (Bradbury90). Although this can be seen as an external conflict
I do not understand why Felicia Hendrix, Probation Officer Manager would encourage an employee to write a letter making false statements, defaming my character of being a racist so that she can gain supervision of training Ms. Amibeth Grandy. This is a form of retaliation, hatred blatantly toward me. These allegations are extremely hurtful. I treat everyone the same regardless of their gender, race or nationality with professionalism and fairness.
A great battle between the Sparta Spartans and the Persian Persians. Yesterday at 11:26 A.M. a messenger named Pheidippides ran from Persia to Sparta to tell the Spartans that the Persians wanted to fight and the spartans said “We are in the middle of a festival, we can’t go yet.” So they didn’t leave until the festival was over. the next day the spartans marched all of the way to the bay of Marathon.
The data protection act- the data protection act is legislation put in place to keep personal data confidential. It can promote anti-discriminatory practice as it can stop people finding out information about individuals that the individual wants to stay private. E.g. phone numbers and addresses. These would need to stay private so people don’t find out where you live or what is wrong with you.
Ms. Fisher along with her legal counsel based her allegation of racial discrimination on the university’s system
The world that we live in is perilous and full of danger. During those times of danger, traumatic events can occur. The concept of race based admission policy is used in colleges to create diversity in campuses, but to some it is another kind of discrimination. According to Stacy Teicher Khadaroo staff writer of “A sticky week for college admissions as affirmative action debate heats up; After a leaked Justice Department document, tensions roil over the use of race at top universities such as Harvard. But many other selective schools may be quietly shifting away from the practice,” top colleges uphold the same commitment to create diversity and using race in admission to accomplish it instead of merit or income. Nonetheless, Department of Justice spokeswomen, Sarah Isgur Flores, is willing to investigate the effects of affirmative action, "The posting
As student affair professional its important that you understand your student body and issues that may affect them. This admistration did not do much to stop the issues on the campus. The administration should have notifted the cousleing center and spoke who students who are expereinng racial issues. The cousling center which is apart of the Division of Student Affairs, can reach out to these students and provide them with different lectures, notes, and one on one time to express their views.
I appreciate you and the universities concern in regards to protecting my professional opportunities and such, however, at the end of the day it's all relative. And believe it or not, a lot of employers don't care about student-teacher relations unless criminal intent was involved. Secondly, is how there are constant disagreements (within the workforce) wherever you go. For example, did you know and/or is the university aware, that Dr. Farina's actions constitute as displayed Microaggressions? And seeing how I'm an African-American male - that falls in line with a marginalized group, I can easily file a suit against his actions as well as the university. So if anyone owes anyone an apology? It's Dr. Farina. And last but not least, are the disciplinary actions you and/or Dr. Farina mentioned.
In the 1960s governmental policy regarding minorities in society was started in a conclusion from the social liberties developments. This was produced into results to balance separation towards minorities. The arrangement has favored those gatherings of individuals that endured in the occupation, instruction, and government parts. Other terms can used to describe affirmation action such as equal opportunities and race-based preferences. Of all the groups affected, the group that was most positively affected would be white women.
This mixed method research will show how HBCU graduates being discriminated against and why it is important because those graduates have worked hard to obtain certain degrees, and for them to be discriminated against is unfair. Well, in the near future this problem could be solved, if the right steps are taken because the evidence to punish employers is exposed more now than ever before. Websites are displaying how “bad” HBCU students graduation rates are and a plethora of other things that censures them; They also throw statistics out to try to make HBCU’S look atrocious, which makes discriminating against them seem constitutional. Many websites mentioned that going to an HBCU is a bad idea and it sets you up for failure. Lastly,
Each day in the United States, there is some type of event that illustrates prejudice and discrimination. This is not a good thing for our country and needs to be put to an end. In Huntsville, Alabama there are several things that have happened over the past year that involve discrimination. Two main stories that come to mind are an Indian grandfather who was attacked by a Madison City police officer and the Department of Justice rezoning the Huntsville City schools.
Merriam Webster defines Affirmative Action as “the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc.” Opinions on affirmative action in the United States vary greatly depending on who is asked. In a poll done by Pew Research in 2009, it was found that 59% of African Americans, 53% of Hispanics, and 22% of whites agree that minorities should get preferential treatment (Stewart). Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) called into question the application of the 14th amendment in rejecting Allan Bakke admission to the University of California Medical School at Davis.
As children grow up, they become the person they turn out to be because of experiences and the culture and society they grew up in. Nations are affected in the same sense because the people living in a nation affect how the nation is influenced and builds its character.
Student affairs and higher education professionals must be familiar with legal obligations in regards to their diversity efforts policies in order to be fully compliant and successful in their endeavors.
