Introduction: Description of Internship Agency, The District Attorney’s Office The District Attorney for the 24th District is named Seth Banks, and that is who I intern for. We represent the state every day in the court room and the office, and hold that responsibility to the utmost respect. Our mission is to be fair, swift, and precise in everything we do. Whether it be superior court, district court, administrative trials, files, or dealing with the public, everything is done with great detail and discipline. Attorney Banks told me in my initial interview that I would be a walking breathing illustration of the state as an intern in his office, and I have to carry myself as such. The have very busy jobs to do, so we make copies of orders and indictments for them to save time. This of course is the most informative job we have as interns because we get to watch all of the court cases and actually be a part of the big picture in the courtroom. We create the files that the ADA’s use to identify each defendant and we file each one with the clerk’ office on the second floor. When a case is closed, we write the date it was closed on the folder and then file it in the closed file cabinet. We are also responsible for taking all the closed files to the evidence overflow/closed case storage at the sheriff’s department. In the overflow were endless seizures from past crimes for us to gaze upon. Even an old drug dealers Z60 corvette was parked in the parking lot. At the District Attorney’s office, we were not stereotypical interns, we were actual employees with real responsibilities. There is a television in most ever persons home worldwide in 2015, and in America specifically, the problem at hand is a transparent falsity. That problem being, how criminal cases are solved and prosecuted. The founding fathers created a document that Americans see as the greatest constitution of all time, based on the longevity, until now. In the quote from the constitution above, the founding fathers set forth the right for a speedy trial, by an impartial jury, in the district of the crime committed, to be confronted by the witnesses against him (U.S. Const. Amend. 6). Unfortunately, due to what is called “The CSI Effect”, these stipulations have fallen short. According to Byers, Author/editor of The CSI Effect: Television, Crime, and Governance, the CSI effect is defined as a belief in the near-infallibility of forensic science and its ability to solve all crimes. At the 2002 conference of the American Association for the advancement of Science, forensic anthropologist Max Houck described the CSI effect as an “infallible Juggernaut” which leads people to believe that science, as portrayed on television, can determine guilt or innocence beyond the shadow of a doubt ( Byers, p. 3).
