With its charts, graphs, and political cartoons, on the surface the Document Based Question (DBQ) is certainly more visually appealing than a standard multiple-choice assessment or traditional instructional strategy. However just how effective and authentic is the DBQ? What rationale do teachers, school districts, and state departments of education have for choosing the DBQ as an integral part of the social studies curriculum? What sort of psychological and social foundations of curriculum are rooted in the DBQ? A review of published literature regarding the DBQ provides some insight into these questions.
The DBQ is psychologically rooted in constructivism in design in which “the individual is actively involved in the process of thinking

Nearly all of the reasons for agrarian discontent in the late 19th century stem from three areas: land, transportation, and money. The farmers were fighting the perceived threats posed by monopolies and trusts, railroads, and the demonetization of silver. The American farmer during this period already had his fair share of problems which, compared to the success of the industrialized businessmen, resulted in much of the animosity between the two groups. The fact of the matter was farmers had entered a viscous cycle. Wheat and cotton, once the staples of American agriculture were selling at such low prices that it was almost impossible
With the era of American Reconstruction in America during the mid to late 1800’s came a sense of opportunity and hope for its people. America was on the move as nation, railroads being built faster than ever and the freedmen looking to find their niche in society. Although in the beginning the government provided support for these new citizens, efforts toward reconstruction faded as the years passed. Those efforts faded to a point where they were all but nonexistent, and with the unwritten Compromise of 1877, what feeble efforts that were left of reconstruction were now all but dead. Politically, reconstruction failed to provide equality by pulling Federal troops from the South, allowing former Confederate officials and slave owners
The effects of the Cuban Revolution on women’s lives and gender relations in Cuba from 1959 to 1990 include that some say women have not reached equality yet with men, women gained more opportunities for themselves, economy and politics, and also how women still had responsibility for children and home, not men.
What makes a person’s spirit triumph ? Love,Laughter, and Nature are all what make a person’s spirit triumph.
For article one my country, Italy voted for each motion to pass. For motion one, we voted to pass it as it was to give us, Italy our land we were promised from the Treaty of London. As for the other three motions, we voted to pass them as we made alliances with the other countries, excluding Germany to allow us to receive what we wanted from the Treaty of Versailles. We also voted to pass the other motions as they did not affect our country personally. For the votes, all for went in our direction as we voted yes to each motion, which all went through with a pass.
The problem of epidemics like smallpox, measles, and other European, Asian, and African diseases negatively affected the abilities of Native Americans to resist the invasions by Europeans. These sicknesses made native peoples too weak to resist. This pattern was no different in North, South, and Central America. As Europeans entered the lands, so did the diseases and they spread, causing the natives to become weak enough for the Europeans to easily invade.
Between 1500-1700, Europe transformed in three fundamental ways: ideologically, politically, and socially. Three of the most notable and influential political thinkers of that time were Francis Bacon, John Locke, and Thomas Hobbes, each of which had a great impact on the growth and development of Europe.
When Thomas Paine published his pamphlet Common Sense, the war had already started, but many colonists neither approved of the war nor desired independence from Great Britain. Common Sense convinced many colonists that the colonies should gain independence from Great Britain, even if it meant war. The increased number of supporters undoubtedly helped the recruitment numbers. The Stamp Act was one of the most despised actions by Great Britain government if not the most. It added an excise tax to all legal documents, cards, dice, and tea; all this it did in the form of stamps required for the item to be legal.
Secondly, his inspiration caused everyone to get up off their chairs and fight and people who thought it was the end to believe and know that they will win. They were all about victory, victory alone, even if odds were against, they just believed in victory and never thought about losing or even giving up on the hardest of situations possible. Inspiration would allow you to see things you may have never seen not only physically, but also mentally, such as a sense of purpose, dreams, goals, doing the impossible or the impossible for you. That is what some things that Winston Churchill would try to make you to believe or convince you for some of these types of reasoning. In Source A, page 265, paragraph 4, lines 15-19 it states that “I take up my task in buoyancy and hope.
The Charter of Georgia was made so that the new colonists who were looking for a fresh start could have one. However, this was not accomplished. Many people either died or went back to England or another colony, England and the Spanish were fighting over borders, and the advertising for the new colony was too exaggerated. The colonization of Georgia, was thus, a failure.
The two societal issues that I chose are standardized testing in schools and common core education. The societal issue that interests me most is standardized testing in schools. Effective methods which I have used to identify this topic are the research of the disadvantages and advantages of standardized testing. Standardized testing includes expanding testing implements that are overseen and recorded in a traditional customary or reliable way. There are two kinds of standardized testing tools: ?norm-referenced tests and criterion-referenced tests? (Flanagan, Mascol, & Hardy-Braz, 2009). The previous testing tools return totals that associate the assessor?s marks to the scores of an illustrative example of a similar stage of development or ranking aristocracies. The last kind of challenging tool includes associating an individual?s total to a prearranged measure (such as a university syllabus).
In conclusion, the instruction of social studies has continue to take a back burner role in classrooms, because it is not one of the subjects in the high stakes testing covered under the NCLB. However, this can change if teachers employ effective teaching strategies, that will help everyone to realize the importance of social studies content at every grade level. This will ultimately help our students to have the knowledge, and understanding to appreciate our diverse culture.
This test/quiz would give me an indication of the comprehension level regarding the lesson over the southern colonies. These questions cover all of the southern colonies; hence giving me feedback as to whether the students fully understand the main ideas/concepts regarding the southern colonies. If the students perform well enough on this assessment we would move on to the next lesson. However, if the students performed poorly I would need to go back and cover the topics again as well as reassess their knowledge on these topics before moving on to the next lesson or giving an exam over the unit. This test/quiz is a great way to gauge how well I did at teaching the lesson on the southern colonies. If students do poorly, then I must reassess
