Vulnerability is the level to which a community, person or society is unable to anticipate, deal with, battle and recover from hardship. The United States is home to many vulnerable populations to include but are not limited to; children, pregnant women, elderly people, malnourished people, disabled veterans and domestic violence survivors. These individuals belong communities that have been systematically oppressed through lack of representation, poor service availability and limited resources. Domestic violence survivors are members of a diverse and complex community. Diverse in a sense that domestic violence effects mainly women from different ethnicities, ages groups, and social status. Domestic violence impacts every aspect of a women’s life not just the home environment it can have serious implications in their work environment. Due to physical abuse some women are forced to miss work, seeking medical treatment and safety from their partner to protect themselves and their children. They are forced to remain in a community due to systematic oppression. The challenge to utilizing the human relations theory in relation to domestic violence victims is the employee inability to communicate to their employer about their domestic abuse because of the culture of secrecy that is embedded into their community. The level of isolation that is displayed by the employee places the employer in a situation of not knowing and in a position to strictly inforce an attendance policy created to protect the employer if termination must occur. Other challenges in using the human relations theory comes with company safety. With the lack of communication between women suffering from domestic abuse and their employee can eventually place the company and other employee’s safety at risk. It helps provide the client with a level of self –esteem, gratitude, forgiveness, empathy, humor and the list goes on. Strengths can be used as a vital tool to help women assist others who may be affected by domestic violence. Using this Black Perspective principal can help decrease the rate in which domestic violence occurs in oppressed communities. Another Black Perspective that can be utilized is the diversity principle allowing for the research of woman with trauma histories to not be overlooked. Understanding this type of trauma affects a diverse group of people and that it is practitioner’s responsibility to remain knowledgeable, compassionate, and faithful to every member of different ethnicities. Understanding the cultural difference is important as well, because some cultural practices can be harmful to women.
