Do you ever dream of being the richest person on earth. I do but unlike everybody else dream my came true. It was 11:30 am Tuesday July 5, I was just a boy who dreams big things. It's a very hot day and I needed to hurry and get on a ship to go to Chicago and make my dreams come true. I was running so fast my shoes were starting to burn like a volcano. I'm running and running and I finally make it to the boat and this man says “ ticket please”. I looked everywhere for my ticket and I couldn't find it. In fear my dream wasn't going to come true I run to the front of the ship were tickets are bought and have to buy another ticket quick. I buy the ticket and i'm running as fast as I can to get to the boat before it leaves, I can hear the boat's horn so loud in my ears felt like they were bleeding. I'm running I can hear the last call for tickets my dream was about be just a dream. I finally made to the boat and he let me on. These last two guys came in behind me. They both had red beards. They were really loud coming in arguing with the person that lets them in. I decided to stay away from these guys. Everybody is waving saying bye to there families and i'm just watching everybody I think i'm the only person not waving bye to family or friends. I mean who would think a 14 year old going on a ship by himself to Chicago. I wasn't actually going to Chicago by boat or at least close I still would have to find a bus which would take forever. The boats taking off to Wisconsin. The
In the beautiful blue water I grab the rope and swim to the end of it. Then, the boat starts to move so I pull myself up. Now, I was standing on the Wakeboard gliding across the water. Then suddenly there were waves right in front of us, and we were headed straight for them and I said to myself, “ oh crap”. I still was standing when the waves crashed into my board, but the last wave turned my board sideways and my face hit the water very hard and my face felt like it was split apart, and my family said it looked like
I am your pilot this morning, and I will be taking you to Newark, New Jersey. The flight will be about three hours. Sit back, relax and have a good flight. I looked to my left to see my parents on their phones, not paying attention to any of their surroundings. There was a long line of people in the aisle waiting to take their seats, each person pushing large suitcases. In the row across for us, Jack was sitting in the row seat listening to music. Since there was four of us Jack had to sit by himself with two other strangers but he didn’t mind. The engines suddenly started to roar as I started to get pushed gently back into my seat. The front of the plane started to rise from the ground and as soon as I noticed we were up in the air. I took a deep breathe as I took my backpack out under the seat. I grabbed my new book “Looking for Alaska” and began to read. One of my friends gave it to me as a going away gift because she knew I loved to read. After a while, my mind slowly started to drift off onto a whole different planet. I was still in shock that I just left all my friends and I was moving to New Jersey. The whole situation was not processing through my head and I thought that we were just going on vacation to New Jersey, and we were not actually about to live there. Even thinking about having to make new friends and joining a new soccer team sent chills down my body. I am always shy around new people and now I have to break out of my
The ocean was so calm and stretched as far as the eye could see. It changed color with the light and the depth, from green to blue to dark blue. At twilight, you can't tell the ocean from the sky. The sky was so blue and not a cloud could be seen for miles. It made me feel at peace and so harmonious. There was the scent of saltwater in the air, a scent like no other. There around we could see sharks swimming calmly in the waters of the Caribbean Sea. They were so beautiful even though they are predators of the sea. On the boat everyone was very quiet, in fear, with the only hope of getting to our destination safely. The boat was overcrowded and no one could move or they would have risked tipping it over and sinking. There were 150 people in a small boat, mostly family with children. Time went by and after a few hours of sailing we heard the magic words when the captain yelled, “Everybody relax we are out of Cuban territory, you are free! We are now on international waters”. That’s when everybody started crying and cheering with excitement. Time once again began to pass by slowly, and I remember at one point the sky started painting in an array of pink, orange and yellow, and before long the pale glow of the moon was beginning to show. Soon enough the sky started to turn black and all the stars starting to shine up in the
I wanted to take that boat out and go tubing for the first time in my life. I was so excited that I even offered to blow up the tube by myself with nothing but my lungs, not knowing we had an air pump. Finally, after what felt like hours of begging like the annoying twelve year old I was, my dad said it was time to go. My sisters and I got our life jackets and wet shirts on, while my baby brother and step mom got on the boat, and my dad sat in the driver’s seat. My sisters and I were on the back on the tube, trying to find the best way to position our arms so we didn’t fall off. My dad turned the key to the boat and suddenly, my excitement turned to sheer panic. What happens if I fall off? What if my sisters fall off? What if there was a lake monster or a really big fish in the water? From that moment on, I was determined to stay on, so I held on to the handles for dear
We knew that we were racing against time. My husband turned the key and the motor started to sputter and shake. He flipped some switches and tinkered with the engine, but nothing seemed to be solving the problem. Since he couldn’t figure it out, there was no question about it. We had to hook up the water bike and tow the boat back to shore. It was like a tugboat pulling a battleship. Just as we started our journey, our luck went from bad to worse. The sky that had been picture perfect was quickly changing. The sun was now playing hide and seek in the clouds. The once large white, fluffy, pillow shaped clouds that occasionally blocked out the golden sun turned into dark gray ragged clouds. With that came plump missiles of mass destruction that pelted our tender sunburned skin. It felt like icy needles penetrating throughout our bodies. The gentle winds that once danced with our boat suddenly turned into a fierce hip- hop which sent us into an ocean of mountains of angry waves. The boat tossed and turned in the heavy swells. The waves lifted us up so high and then threw us back down, I thought for sure the boat would break into tiny pieces. With one final tug, we finally made it to the dock. However, the strength of the swell, sent us crashing into another boat. Just as we tied up, I noticed a young lady unconscious on the dock. Her friends were by her side. I shouted out "Did anyone call 911" they said that they did
We went through security and got our tickets when my dad handed me my ticket I got so happy. I just couldn't stop thinking about what it is like to fly. Over and over in my head I repeated “I can't wait”, “I can't wait” just waiting for them to call our flight. Then It happened a nice lady said “Who’s going to Hawaii” , so I jumped up and replied “I AM!”. We gave her our tickets and walked on the plane, once everyone got on the plane the pilot called my family and I up to the cockpit he said “are you Jakob” looking straight at me so replied with a nervous ”yes” thinking I was in trouble. He said “good I have a surprise for you, here's our flight path and can I tell the plane what you have been through?” I said it was ok so he took a walkie talkie thing and said “we have a
As we walked out of our car, I had so many questions to ask. How big is the inside of the boat? How big is our room? How much fun is it? What is for dinner? Thinking that by the time I asked all of my questions we would be on the boat, instead, we only walked about five minutes to the security area. The line was huge, but luckily we had the early pass which meant we got to go to a special line where there were only two people in it. After we got checked by security, we went to a big terminal leading to the ship. Since we had the early pass, we were able to be the first people to board the ship. Finally, we were on the ship! As we were
During the mind-boggling movie What Dreams May Come, Chris Nielsen played by Robbin Williams, goes through a journey of finding his love, Annie Collins-Nielsen played by Annabella Sciorra, in the afterlife, while finding himself along the way. Their love is forever lasting, during the entirety of the incredible film. Brusset refers to them as “soulmates whose love relationship seems invincible.” The only time, throughout the movie, the couples love is tested and almost fails begins when their two children die. The children, Marie Nielsen played by Jessica Brooks and Grant and Ian Nielsen played by Josh Paddock, are killed in a car accident in the beginning of the film.
I got really sick from the cold air. Alisha isn’t here with me anymore. They separated us. Every night they come over to us and take the dead bodies of the people that died of disease and starvation. They throw their dead bodies overboard. Space is very limited. I have splinters and scratches all over my body from when the ship starts. The woman next to me is the nicest person on this ship. Her name is Sylvia. She got separated from her husband and daughter. I saw them take the men away. They packed them in with leg irons.
After saying our goodbyes, Third Brother and I went straight for the ship because it's scheduled to leave in thirty minutes. Before we could board the ship, we had to go through security, which wasn’t that bad. We found our seats in the bottom deck and got ready for our long journey at sea. After what seemed like weeks at sea I found time to write back to Aunt Baba when something hit me, ‘’maybe I could go visit her next summer?” As that thought traveled through my mind, I heard somebody yell “we’re almost there, I see land!” I was so excited after long weeks at sea that I stopped everything I was doing and went straight to the top of the ship. Third Brother was right behind me. As we got closer and closer to England, I could feel my
When we got on the pontoon boat I sat down and watched my relatives on the speed boat. I wanted to go on so badly. Later the speed boat drove by and slowly started stopping right next to our pontoon boat. I decided to go on and I stood up. I walked over and I stepped onto the speed boat and sat right up front. My uncle was driving the boat and it was so much fun with my cousins and my brother with me; I had such a blast. My Mom and Dad wanted my brother and I to get off the boat so we could eat lunch, so we got off and ate lunch on the pontoon boat. After we ate, we decided to go back on the speed boat so my cousins and I went on again. My Dad was driving this time. We were going so fast and it was so much fun! All of a sudden, everyone saw this boat with lights on it and it was coming towards the speed boat and they pulled my Dad over for speeding. The police boat was next to our boat and my cousins and I were sitting in the boat thinking,” what are they talking about and what is going to happen.” After they talked, we kept on going and then a few minutes later, my cousins wanted to get off the boat because they were scared of my dad driving it again so I got off with
When I was young Dr. Martin Luther King, “I Have a Dream” speech is something I heard every February and was told how beautiful it was. However, reading this as an adult who has dealt with social injustices and racism can view it differently. Do not get me wrong the speech is beautiful but I see it as a pleading with a country that will not change. This speech was written in 1963 and it was a call for racism to end in the United States. The speech is moving and Dr. King uses other well-known notions of other greats speeches like Abraham Lincoln Gettysburg Address. He pleads and is the voice that many could not express in the sixties. One of the lines that jumps out at me is “We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the
This famous quote by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire has impacted my life in a positive way. Growing up and discovering my dreams continues to be an exciting time in my life, and being passionate enough about those dreams to share them with those around me. The downside to sharing my dreams, one being the dream to become a professional eSport player, came with a lot of negative comments. Being told by those who I thought were my friends, "You're not going to make it", "That's a stupid dream", really hurt me. However, just like Dumbledore tells Harry, it's about how we grow to become what we desire. Over my 17 years of living, various literature pieces have shaped my way of thinking and have prepared me for moving into the ‘real world' post Year 12.
I knew I was missing something in my life, but I was never able to pinpoint what. Ever since my parents divorced when I was twelve, I was forced to live with my father in Texas where he worked in an oil drilling company. For thirteen years I had to withstand this longing hunger, but I have decided to travel to my old hometown to figure it out. I glanced over to my diary nearby and opened it up to look at my old family picture, or at least what’s salvaged of it. Father ripped it up in half because he wanted me to forget about mother, and he wanted me to forget about it all. Continuing on, I started flipping through a few pages of my diary until I found my old address: 187 Mapleberry Oak in Toronto, Ontario.
As Walt Disney once said “All dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Courage is something that everyone is born with, but only some are courageous enough to find it and put it to use. Merriam Webster 's defines courage as “Mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” Courage can overcome any obstacle, proving that if we have courage any dream truly can come true. As readers we must understand that there are going to be times in life when we must use courage. By reading about others, and learning how to find the courage within, the reader is able to learn that courage truly is self-identifiable. There may be people along the way to help one find courage. However, it is
