What is Driving Faster US Economic Growth? According to the latest “live” Q4 real GDP growth forecast courtesy of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the US economy is expected to expand +3.3% during the current quarter. Should this expectation prevail, then the economy will have enjoyed three successive quarters of GDP growth in excess of 3%, the first occurrence since 2004 H2 and 2005 Q1. The biggest difference between the aforementioned period and the current environment is the underlying strength of real final sales. Currently, real final sales are averaging +2.8% over the past three quarters, while this metric was a more robust +3.6% during the 2004 H2 and 2005 Q1 period. What are the driving sources behind the recent faster …show more content…
Meanwhile, the Conference Board’s measure of consumer confidence recently reached its highest level since December 2000, which, incidentally, coincided with the peak of the 1991-2000 economic expansion. Furthermore, much of the improvement is attributable to current conditions versus the anticipated backdrop six months’ hence. Currently, perceptions about abundant job availability have reached their highest levels since the summer of 2001. Historically, there has been a close correlation between wage inflation and perceptions of job availability. There is, however, a disconnection between the two during the current cycle, because wage inflation still appears reluctant to breach +3%. Despite the apparent lack of upward pressure on nominal wages, consumer confidence has been rising. This dichotomy is probably explained by the low level of the so-called misery index (the summation of consumer price inflation and the unemployment rate). Moreover, real wage gains have been positive due to the persistence of low inflation and this probably explains why, despite modest nominal wage gains, consumers feel more upbeat. This situation could, however, change if inflation rises, thereby pushing inflation-adjusted changes in labour compensation into negative territory. Upbeat US Consumers Appear to Ignore Political Backdrop The 2016 Presidential Election spectacularly highlighted long and simmering divisions within the US electorate. Crucially, the election also
Question: 1 Young children can sustain serious injuries from ______, which deploy even in a low speed crash.
When I was 17 I wanted to own a Ferrari and live life in the fast lane. Even if I could have afforded the car, then I couldn 't have afforded the insurance to cover it. At 17 you are brand new to the world of driving and statistically you are more likely to make an insurance claim. Mixing high-powered cars with inexperienced drivers is not something car insurance companies are super-keen about, the chance of a claim shoots through the roof with the price of the premium following it. When you are young and inexperienced, buy a low-powered, low value car to try and keep your car insurance premium to a minimum. If it is worth less then it will cost less to fix/replace when in your youthful exuberance you crash it. The same logic actually applies to everyone, the lower the value of the vehicle and the lower the car insurance policy will be in most cases. Sports and premium cars will always cost more to repair in an accident so the insurance will reflect this. New cars now feature myriads of anti-theft and driver aids that in many cases will help to reduce the cost of insurance so keep an eye on the spec sheet when looking at a new car. A good rule of thumb is that less desirable and low value cars are cheaper to insure.
I was pulled over by a police officer because I was going faster than I was supposed to in that designated area. The zone was a sixty-five mile per hour zone and I was do eighty. I have agreed to the terms that I was found guilty of this and now come to you the reader explaining why it may be dangerous to be speeding in certain areas and ultimately everywhere. During this experience I have learned that there are many consequences for not driving safe, because there is never a good reason to speed. I have learned that it is extremely dangerous to speed and that there will be consequences, even if they are minor like, obtaining a ticket, and occasionally they are major, like killing running into someone else. It does not matter what happens after, you should not be speeding ever because there is never a good
The interest rates are expected to reach 7.0% by June, the most severally effected by these constant raises are shareholders. Because of these immediate effects market economists are largely against the interest rate hikes. Their position is that the average inflation rate over the past three years has been at around 2% close to the markets expected inflation rate of 1.9%. The economy is on a sixteen year run, continually moving forward. The historical data is there however; the consumer price index was at 1.6% over the past twelve months and the March year over year rate was at 3.7%
The most recent presidential election has been one of the most dividing in the history of America. While President Trump won the electoral vote, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, creating a divide in workplaces, schools, and many other public places. The greatest challenges that the President will need to address first are the unity of Americans for the acceptance of all people and the education of young people, as they are the future of our nation.
The news informs everyone on a daily basis that the United States has the largest economy and that it is looking to be in great shape since four years ago. To some Americans it seems otherwise. The unemployment rate in 2007 was 4.6% compared to unemployment rate in 2012 at 7.5%. The U.S inflation rate ended in October 2012 after twelve months was 2.16% which is 0.11% higher than the one in September. The U.S inflation forecast consists of apparel, education and
America is currently divided. Politics from the recent elections have left this nation sore and torn apart by the conflicting political opinions of it's citizens. Politics nowadays are extremely polarized, so much so that we are at a 20 year high with the end nowhere near in sight. This has led to people firmly distrusting and even hating each other, seen by the fact that 27% of Democrats and 36% of Republicans believe that the opposing party is a threat to the nation’s well being. Political polarization must be put to the end, and there seems to be one major culprit, political parties.
Daily poll. For the week of November 20th, the confidence level for the American economy was registered as a +6 on the index of opinions on “rat[ing] current economic conditions and whether they feel the economy is improving or getting worse” (McCarthy). Conducting this poll, a telephone survey with a random number generator was used for the week of November 14th to the 20th, collecting a sample of 3,546 people, ages 18 years and older from all 50 states with cellphones and landlines. This poll meets normal, random, and independence requirements, with the sample size being greater than 30, the interviews being conducted randomly, and there being more than 35,460 people in the country. The results had a “margin of sampling error is ±2 percentage points at the 95% confidence level,” meaning that 95% of all samples of 3,546 people 18 years and older from the United States, will result in an interval that captures the population of American adults who believe that the economy has improved (McCarthy). Despite nationwide division over political opinions and concern over election results, these sampled Americans have confidence in the economy according to the Gallup U.S. Daily poll. These results, with 29% having an opinion of “excellent” or “good” and 23% saying “poor,” is seemingly negligible, but this is highest rating for Gallup in the last nine years (McCarthy). In conclusion, the economic confidence level for the Gallup U.S. Daily poll increased to +6, even with the turmoil, division, and disagreement with the election, leading one to believe that Americans still, and even more so, have confidence in their
As cell phones become more popular, texting while driving is becoming the most widely known cause for car accidents among teens. The alarming rate of incidents where texting is involved is getting more parents worried and warning their children about the danger of texting while driving. Parents are urging the fact that drivers should pay attention to the road and traffic, not their phones. A popular study of 18 to 24 year old drivers showed that 66 percent of them have texted while driving. Since texting while driving is becoming more popular many states are passing a law to ban the use of any cell phone device while in a vehicle. Texting while driving is an important issue that is causing many deaths and those who cause these deaths and
This essay is an argument against the limitation of speed. I feel as if there should be no speed limit if these three reasons occur. Such as there is no traffic ahead or behind you, if there is a really bad emergency, And if you are on the interstate in the far left lane. Those are the main three reasons why I feel there should be restricted speed limitations on some occasions.
Teen driving is unsafe and dangerous, teen driving is the leading cause of teenage deaths in the United States with more than 5,000 teens dying a year. 17 year old Weston Griggs, killed himself and the 2 passengers he had in his car. But, this accident was no accident. Weston was going 70 mph in a 40 mph speed zone. The issue in this story is that young drivers like Weston, inexperienced and full of adrenaline are just hurting them selves and others by getting behind the wheel at such a young age. Teens between the ages 15 through 17 do not belong on the road. Outrageous amounts of teens are dying every year and these numbers are not changing, so why keep them on the road? Teen driving in the United States have three main problems
The unemployment rate in the United States has improved dramatically over the last two years, from a high of 8.3% in July 2012, to a low of 6.6% in January 2014. In October of 2012, the civilian labor force increased from 578,000 to 155.6 million, labor force participation increased up to 63.8%, and total employment overall rose by 410,000! Since then, the unemployment rate has been falling at a stable rate due to a political push from Washington DC and new employment initiatives. The inflation rate over the last 2 years has been relatively stably, with a few major increases and decreases in 2012 and 2013. It reached a high of 2.3% in June of 2012, and reached a low of 1.0% at the end of 2013. The federal interest rate has remained at a constant .25% over the past few years.
The debate about the relationship between inflation and unemployment is mainly based on the famous “Phillips Curve”. This curve was first discovered by a New Zealand born economist called Allan William Phillips. In 1958, A. W. Phillips published an article “The relationship between unemployment and the rate of change of money wages in the United Kingdom, 1861-1957”, in which he showed a negative correlation between inflation and unemployment (Phillips 1958). When the unemployment rate is low, the inflation rate tends to be high, and when unemployment is high, the inflation rate tends to be low, even to be negative.
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults’ eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
One of the greatest things that teenagers look forward to is getting their driver¡¦s licence and getting the freedom to do whatever they want. Ever since graduated licensing began five years ago, on April 1,1994, many people have made good and bad comments about it.
