I feel that the Duquesne Psychology program has helped me prepare for careers or graduate school in relevant fields, though there could be some improvements. As an individual who is interested in two fields, one being Integrated Marketing Communications, this leaves me with a lot of possible career paths after university. I am interested in graduate school, but feel as though I need to take some time off before pursing it. After I take this time off, I may pursue graduate school, which I feel that the department has helped me with through the course of university. Though I am scared and nervous of what the future may hold, I know that my time at Duquesne in the psychology curriculum has made me an excellent candidate for a career or graduate …show more content…
Unfortunately, to pursue psychology I would likely need graduate school in order to even be applicable to most careers. A career in psychology I am interested in would be Industrial Organizational Psychology, but Duquesne only offered a course on this subject once, which I missed. This leaves me with much disappointment, however I understand that such specific courses such as that one are hard to offer regularly, especially if there is no one qualified to teach the subject. I also feel as though the psychology department does a great job offering their students opportunities to learn about graduate schools and many of my professors have offered to give references to me during their courses. I really appreciate these opportunities from the department, as they really would be beneficial to me if I was planning on attending graduate school after Duquesne. Thus, even though there are some areas where I feel the department could expand or improve on, I believe they do a great job in helping their students learn about graduate school and think about what careers or possibilities they should …show more content…
Additionally, programs such as the practicum have allowed me to have experience which I can put on a resume and get a positive review from. Since I am considering Integrated Marketing Communications before pursuing graduate school, that makes my future a little different than others in the major. However, if I do ever decide to go to graduate school I will pursue Industrial Organizational Psychology, and I believe that I will be happy in either
That is what intrigues me, the thought of learning everything about the human brain and how people function. Although my love for psychology runs deep, I also have a passion for producing my own business. I would like to create a business for new technology. I have always wanted to build my own business. I believe I will initiate the next greatest business for technology. My products will be crafted by the best employees and our customers will be satisfied with every product and service provided. I chose these two majors because I believe for my future career, I will need knowledge in both majors to become successful. I believe I will be a great addition to the ST. Thomas community. I will strive for greatness and work hard to become a successful student. I also would like to join a variety of clubs or programs to extend my knowledge. I would also like to assist in any community programs to aid my fellow peers and other people inside the community. If given the opportunity to attend this university, I will achieve my goals
On a very basic level, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology will allow me to become a suitable match to a career in mind science through learning
I have been preparing for my intended major for five semesters at Diablo Valley College. By the end of the spring semester of 2017, I will have earned at least 60 units that are required for a junior transfer. Within these units, I have completed several courses that are significant for a psychology degree, which is my desired major. Among these courses are Psychology in Modern Life, Life Span development and Research Methods in Psychology. Having taken a course in Life Span development, I am knowledgeable in psychological characteristics and personal/social developmental problems and opportunities. Not only that, but I 'm now more capable of addressing the aspects of human development such as physical changes, cognitive development, and social and personality growth. Other courses such as Psychology in Modern Life, which details the relevance of psychology to social processes, have given me a better understanding of the modern analysis of the social science that is psychology. And my very first psychology course, Introduction to Psychology, had imparted on me insight on the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. These courses are by no means the only courses in which I could enroll in to proceed to higher levels of education. For every semester I have enrolled in at DVC, I
Graduating the University of Texas with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology would be a dream come true. I strongly believe this program will give me the tools I need to become an excellent counselor and to launch me to the next level of my career and life. Counseling humans in trouble and curing my thirst for knowledge are my goals which I am sure this program will help me achieve. I can’t wait for my future to take off as I gain more knowledge and pave the way to becoming an excellent counselor for anyone that needs my help as I was helped when I was a young
TCNJ also gives me the chance to take on an internship. The chance to learn and serve others, all while gaining life experience through all that TCNJ offers, is what draws me to this school. With the research opportunities, the psychology undergraduate program gives me the chance to learn while getting involved in field work. Since I am interested in many different areas of psychology, being involved in research work can help me narrow down what it is I would like to do as a career. I believe that through exploration of the school of Humanities and Social Sciences, I will be able to build a career path that I truly enjoy. I hope to someday be someone that makes a difference, whether that be as a psychiatrist, a member of the Peace Corps after college, or as someone who opens a school in South America. With the experience I will gain at The College of New Jersey, I know that the career I choose will be one in which I know with confidence that I
After having taken this psychology career development course (PSY 3024), I’ve learned a lot about not only different psychology options, but also a lot about myself. Having come into this course, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do. I really just declared psychology as my major in the summer before this semester. So, definitely my career plans have changed after taking this course. Psychology has many different subfields, ones I learned I had no idea about prior to taking this course. For example, I learned about sports psychologists and how they assist athletes in different ways to ultimately help them prevail. I learned about forensic psychologists and how they work with the judicial system and do many tasks, including helping
As a former student of Georgia Southern University, I’ve earned a grade point average of 3.4 while working two jobs and volunteering in various student organizations. Throughout my college career I maintained good academic standing admitting me into the honor society my junior year. I did not have the financial resources to continue school and advance my education, however I joined a Big Brother Program that enabled to mentor and teach at risk juveniles in the local area. Outside of the Big Brother Program, I taught boxing to at risk juveniles that sought an outlet from the troublesome environment that has become a part of their upbringing. Psychology is the major I’ve selected and placed my heart into, because I want to apply my knowledge
My nontraditional postsecondary academic journey began in 2012 where I made a committed decision to attend St. Petersburg College with a major in Psychology. As the first person in my family to have the privilege to attend college, I found my motivational drive, persistence to achieve, and the inspiration to overcome many obstacles that stood in my way. I excelled in my passion as I continue on my academic path as a single mother of two children who have special needs, and having my own disabilities, as well as being an honor student and leader who remains active in serving others. Upon graduation from St. Petersburg College (SPC), I became a student at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg (USFSP) while working as a substitute teacher
When I first came to the U.S and started to purse a college degree at the University of Iowa, I tried a variety of courses, including chemistry, biology, art, and so forth, and most courses did not elicit strong interests in me but lowered my overall GPA a great deal, until I took a course Motivational Interviewing in which the Professor inspired me in learning how to motivate and pursue clients to resolve ambivalence. I was immediately drawn by the study of persuasion and mental health counseling. After the course, I decided to keep exploring my interests in this field and I was informed that the best major for me would be psychology which later became life-time career goal!
Hello everyone, I am Tiffani Coker, currently a second semester senior here at Southeastern. My anticipated graduation is set for December 2015. This is just four short months away, which allows me to finally be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in Biology. I did not begin my college journey in Psychology, it all began with dreams of becoming a nurse. In the spring of 2014, I was accepted into the ECU/SOSU Nursing Program. During that semester of nursing courses, I quickly realized I was not mentally or psychically prepared for such demanding courses. After much thought, this is when I decided to go the Psychology route. Psychology and Nursing
Martha’s psychology career helped better the minorities’ community by getting more people of color interested in the psychology field, and advocate for the American Psychological Association to improve the minorities’ status by using publications and presentations. She wanted the psychologist to work more with the minorities’ community because of the under-representation they had. She vigorously continued advocating for the minorities’ community and helped established the National Hispanic Psychological Association. This help spread more interest for the minorities’ community to be more interested and represented in the psychological field.
The courses I have taken have given me a bit of understanding when interacting and communicating with other people. I am interested in the behaviors of people in general so I have always been rather attentive when it comes to psychology. I would like to learn as much as I can in an effort to better develop my skills and to choose the best career option that will allow me to help as many people as possible. I think that in some aspects of life we could all benefit by learning to understand one another a little better and psychology opens the door to a deeper understanding. We are only able to change negative aspects of society once we begin to learn why people exhibit certain behaviors. I eventually want to counsel families that are in trouble. I feel as though this is my calling in life and I am excited about the opportunities I will have and the possibilities that arise when we fully delve into the mental and behavioral elements that cause certain behaviors.
My vision and goals for my career in psychology stem from my personal experiences as an employee. Specializing in Industrial-Organizational Psychology will allow me to help others avoid the frustrations I have felt and provide them with the support and opportunities I did not have. My vision and goals concentrate on the areas of talent management, change management, coaching, and contributing original research and depend on me earning my master’s degree and then furthering my credentials with a coaching certification. Competencies revolve around theory and research and their application. My background has given me transferrable skills that can be carried into an internship or entry-level job. Effective use of networking will work in my favor in areas where my skills are lacking. My action plan involves earning my master’s degree within three years, working for a consulting firm and eventually running my own consultancy, and earning my coaching certification.
My future career goals are for me to become a clinical psychologist. I have been striving to work with disorders for a long time now, and feel this occupation is best suited to my goals. Before my current course, which is Psychology and Psychotherapy with Counselling, I did a year of psychology with The Open University which acted as an access course and allowed me to be accepted into UCLAN. My course at UCLAN will guide me in achieving the knowledge, skills and experience I need to get to my goals as a clinical psychologist.
When I was first considering dual enrollment, I knew I wanted to be in a college psychology class. I decided to choose an online class because it would have been much easier for me to manage. I wanted to experience what a college class is typically like, and I was not disappointed. Being apart of this social psychology class for the fall of 2017 really opened my eyes to the possibilities that there were. I also learned a lot of things about culture, human interactions, psychology and even myself. This class presented a lot of questions that made me take a step back and reflect upon. Before I began this class, I was interested in psychology and social psychologists, and now, I am even more so.
