Eagle Eye Movie Review Essay

The last of the Mohicans was a movie that really appealed to me from the beginning because of the heroism and the action into it. The main characters in this movie were Daniel day- Lewis as Nathanial Poe (Hawkeye) and Madeline Stowe as Cora Munro. The movie could be described as a romantic action like a Spiderman or a superman movie always needs the girl to give motivation to the main character but it is a historical drama.

All advantages have corresponding disadvantages. Sherry Turkle’s essay “Connectivity and its Discontents” address her stance towards technological communication. Throughout her essay, she provides examples that illustrate how the world is consistently depending on technology for communication. Turkle’s opinion towards the issue is that, “she believes we’ll eventually sacrifice communication for mere connection.” Her examples make the reader consider that technological communication leads to human beings losing intensity in communication in both personal and professional situations because of distraction and convenience. The twenty-first century widely introduced a variety technological advancements which made people rely often on the technology. Thinking back to her opinion towards the issue I would agree with the idea that humans are becoming too attached to technology, but I would disagree that technology draws a wedge between people.

The film Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross is about two modern teenagers, David and his sister Jennifer, somehow being transported into the television, ending up in Pleasantville, a 1950s black and white sitcom. The two are trapped as Bud and Mary Sue in a radically different dimension and make some huge changes to the bland lives of the citizens of Pleasantville, with the use of the director’s cinematic techniques. Ross cleverly uses cinematic techniques such as colour, mise-en-scene, camera shots, costumes, music and dialogue to effectively tell the story.

For instance, after a student has told her that they would rather talk to a screen then their own parents about dating advice, she states, “this enthusiasm speaks to how much we have confused conversation with connection and collectively seem to have embraced a new kind of delusion that accepts the stimulation of compassion,” (138). She uses reasoning from her own studies explaining how technology has affected our attitudes and mentality toward certain factors. For example, a high schooler wants to talk to an artificial intelligence program about dating advice rather than another person, such as a parent or sibling because they feel as if they can only trust a computer screen more than their family. In another instance, Turkle incorporates reasoning into why technology has become a big factor in our everyday lives. She states, “In the silence of connection, people are comforted by being in touch with a lot of people. We can’t get enough of one another if we can use technology to keep one another at distances we can control: not too close, not too far, just right,” (137). Here, Turkle reasons that technology is a favorable option to many, in for instance, having a conversation, because one has control of what they are saying, how they are saying it, and when they are saying it. The advancement of technology has changed tremendously to the point where everybody depends on it. Technology can be utilized for personal use, education,isolations, relationships and so much more, where in Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle, discusses how detrimental technology can be through her studies and others sources. In chapter, Four chairs, Sherry Turkle mentions how the utilization of machines is influencing humans negatively. Therefore, the use of artificial intelligence is unsuitable for children and adults.

The movie, The Shawshank Redemption (1994), is based on a character Andy Dufresne. Andy is a young and successful banker who is sent to Shawshank Prison for murdering his wife and her secret lover. His life is changed drastically upon being convicted and being sent to prison. He is sent to prison to serve a life term. Over the 20-years in prison, Andy retains optimism and eventually earns the respect of his fellow inmates. He becomes friends with Red, and they both comfort and empathize with each other while in prison. The story has a strong message of hope, spirit, determination, courage, and desire.

Into the Wild is a documentary film by Sean Penn that follows the life of Christopher Johnson McCandless, a vagabond who tramped across the United States for two years before his journey led him to Alaska, where he lived in the wilderness, sheltered by an abandoned transportation bus, preceding his death. McCandless grew up with all the privileges of being raised in the suburbs by a middle class family, he later went on to graduate from Emory University in Georgia, and seemed to have his whole life stretched out in front of him. However, he did the exact opposite of what was expected, severed all ties with his family, and adopted a life of chosen homelessness, where his travels led him on wild adventures across the country. Many speculate that McCandless was pushed to do this in order to spite his overbearing and abusive parents who verbally and physically assaulted each other in front of their children, demanding they pick a side. Historians have to ask themselves when watching these films, "Did the fictional character represent historical figures accurately? Is this how a soldier would react in this situation?" The point of view of the director of the film can change with simple alterations in camera angles. In Michael Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), the connections between people and memories become the focal point of a very unique romance. Through the use of new technology, the possibility of erasing memories makes painful relationships disappear like they never happened. The tale of Joel and Clementine allows the audience to rethink and question the process they undergo as beneficial or destructive. Though the process might be helpful in eliminating the pain caused from another person, four key scenes show how the lessons learned through relationship experiences are important.

The short story “Marionettes, Inc.” shows how technology is a great tool and a privilege to have. It was used to help Braling deal with a situation that he didn’t want to deal with. Braling was “married to a women who overdoes it,” she wanted to be all over him all of the time and it kept getting worse. It’s unfortunate for Braling because he married his wife for the wrong reasons. When Braling married his wife he was only thinking about his business, his mother and father. When you marry someone for the wrong reason there are consequences that you have to deal with and the consequence are not good and it’s not something that you expect to happen.
