Eastern Washington University has a lot of international students therefore, I will have the curiosity to know about them. For example, my English class has eight students. Each of them is from different countries. As well, sometimes we do activities in class that makes us talk with each other. As show curiosity that can help me for development because it makes my mind active instead of passive. For example, the people who are curious always like to ask and search to find the answer in their minds. In this time, their minds are active. I believe that when I have a curiosity for many things that makes your mind stronger and stronger. Also, I believe that will be an incentive for me to be smart, a great student, and have the beautiful life.
I complete the survey before reading the articles and thought I could use this to know more about my students. After reading the material, I learned that knowing the interests of my students can help me to prepare a class focused on their interests. Furthermore, it can help to create curiosity in them. “When we’re interested in what we’re learning, we pay closer attention; we process the information more efficiently; we employ more effective learning strategies, such as engaging in critical thinking, making connections between old and new knowledge, and attending to deep structure instead of surface features.”
After reading “On Becoming a Better Student” by Donna Farhi Schuster, I started to think about some of the idea she mentioned. I have always been a curious person. I have always wanted to learn more about what I was interested in, but that stopped in high school. Expressing interest in something in high school was not something I did often. I was so overwhelmed with busy work in school that I was exhausted by the time I had time to actually sit down and research something I was interested in.
The poem entitled “Curiosity” written by Alastair Reid is a symbolic poem that uses cats as a metaphor for humans. It relates felines to people in the sense of curiosity, and what could be considered actually living life to the fullest. Essentially, this work contradicts the popular phrase, “curiosity killed the cat” by placing it within a broader context. Instead of discouraging curiosity, Reid explains why people should embrace it.
I believe that one should constantly learn and seek new skills and information since it enhances one’s understanding of the world, provide opportunities, and develop skills. Committed to learning, I am willing to spend the necessary time to cultivate my mind in the quest for knowledge and I achieved this through diligence, perseverance, discipline, and by providing the best work possible in the workplace around me. This ambition to push for excellence would be a beneficial trait to have in the future, for I still strive to put quality into everything I do, even when I do not receive any recognition or praise, and this attitude would help me make rapid strides not only in my academic career but my life overall.
This greater sense of complexity within the world would enhance my personal and intellectual progress. Studying abroad would establish my ability to communicate and connect with other nations and cultures. It would widen my view of the world and even help me have an improved understanding of the culture I live in. Working to understand it would be a prodigious start to developments, within myself and learning to transform the world around me for the better. My overall experiences granted through the university would exponentially escalate, aiding me in becoming a self-sufficient, confident person. I want to do my absolute best for myself and those around me, which means doing my best to fully understand the world I live in. The better I can understand and work efficiently in the circumstances we live under, the quicker our world can progress into a greater state than it is currently in. Increasing my critical thinking skills and awareness of what is happening around me can help me transform the society we live in and enable me to pass that knowledge along to
Being knowledgeable is important to and in order to be knowledgeable have curiosity. Early on
A diverse academic community will help me and others to be familiar with the language, culture and tradition of so many countries. It will also be an ideal place where I can develop my knowledge and contribute to the existing diversity by introducing my culture and tradition. Even seeing people from around the world will motivate me to keep my grades up. Knowing different cultures will also assist me in my attempt to explore the world, since I get familiar with the
We are born curious. Babies explore their environments to learn; they do it naturally without being told. Three-year-olds constantly, at times annoyingly, ask, “why?” And yet, by the time my students arrive in Grade 10, they have all but lost their curiosity. Consequently, when I get a new class of students, we start by
Opportunity to travel abroad: traveling to another country enables you to get a complete picture of the culture, it also helps to enhance your interpersonal skills as well as your communication skills and it enables you to appreciate new customs. (San Diego State University, n.d.)
Education is a never-ending learning process that has always been a piece of our life. As education is a building block in our lives, we are eager to put profoundly into our education. Good education will lead us to the bright future. With the fast advancement of public opinion, we have entered an era of information explosion which the necessity of studying abroad has turned into a developing pattern among youth. Most of the students feel that studying abroad is better than studying in local universities. As the saying goes, “the grass always looks greener on the other side of fence.” In this way, I believe that considering abroad have extraordinary points of benefits.
They can also help motivate student’s desire to learn by being engaged with both the content and students themselves.
Our students may not be curious about what we want them to be curious about. Their curiosity coupled with our own wonder and experience can guide them into deeper inquiry. In a classroom grounded in curiosity, we have the unique opportunity of being able to mine the students’ deepest held gem, making their attention natural and effortless, and allowing them to fully engage.
Consciousness, or awareness, is another helpful aspect of becoming a good student. The good student must be aware of their (agr) surroundings and know what is going on in the world around them. We must strive to relate what is happening around us to what we are learning. This should be important to us because we should care about what is going on politically, academically, socially, and spiritually. Being aware and paying attention is a good trait to continually learn and apply.
Becoming aware of my limited knowledge provided an interest to research other cultures to improve my intercultural communication. This learning curve has reflected my score of 6.6 for Motivation, in comparison to the average for MTGS2606 students of 4.73.
What motivates me to pursue university education abroad? Well, the last couple of years have been a long bumpy ride for me, however, the First
