The Importance of Physical Diversity Economic Importance Natural Resources Due to the vast physical diversity in our country, there are many different natural resources available ranging from oil to fish to minerals. Canada is number 4 on the list of countries with the most natural resources; it has 33.2 trillion dollars worth of natural resources. The interior plains have a rich source of salt, oil and natural gas. The revenue from oil was about 2.5 billion dollars in 2016 in Alberta. The Great Lakes-St.Lawrence Lowlands has an industry of hydroelectricity and agriculture. The soil is very rich and good for farming. The great lakes and the St. Lawrence River also provides a source of fish and fresh water which is exported. Hudson Bay and Arctic Lowlands has a lot of different kinds of natural resources (e.g., forestry, hydroelectricity and natural gas) due to the physical diversity. Most of the economy in this region comes from mining ( over 100 million dollars in revenues). It’s very important for us to try to preserve the physical diversity of our country because as we can see our economy is greatly affected by it. Physical Diversity is very important when it comes to Tourism and Recreation. It not only allows the regions to have large cities which attract a lot of different people but to also have natural features that attract many tourists. Regions like the Interior Plains have many different national parks and gardens while the Hudson Bay and Arctic Lowlands offer activities rock climbing, canoeing and polar bear and whale watching. While tourism and recreation do not affect the economy as greatly as natural resources do, they still have an impact on it. Each province earns several million dollars every year from
These two regions offer unique opportunities for more innovative and creative forms of economic development. North-eastern Ontario has a larger population than the North-western Ontario since it’s closely tied to mining. Whereas, North-western Ontario is closely tied to forestry therefore experiencing a lesser population. The economy in the North-western Ontario faced a downturn during the forest sector crisis with the region outside of Thunder Bay bearing the brunt of the employment and population adjustment. The North-eastern has been sustained by its mining sector , however there is a redistribution of population towards the five largest urban centres including Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie , North Bay (53,966),

Oil has become extremely vital in our society, so vital that it has affected developed and developing countries. It is a massive contributor to economic growth as well as environmental destruction. The Alberta Oil Sands has destroyed acres of local ecosystems, but has also achieved and ensured that Canada stays as an economic power. The economical, cultural, and political benefits the oil sands give to Canada makes it an asset they can not function without.

Canada’s large physical size benefits Canada in many ways such as agriculture, expansion, and large amounts of natural resources. Firstly, Canada has large amounts of agricultural land that not only generates money for the country but also provides jobs to many Canadian citizens.A large amount of agricultural land allows Canada to export the excess food that we produce, this ensures that the country has a steady source of income throughout most of the year. Canada is the 2nd largest nation on Earth with a total land area of 9,984,670 sq km, and is the largest nation on the North American continent. Although Canada is the second largest country on Earth and the largest in North America, most of Canada's land is part of a rather inhospitable land that is characterized by tundra and arctic features. Consequently, due to Canada's very northern location, most of the Canadian population lives towards the United States border where the most prime locations of land are located. Out of the seven landform regions Canada consists of, I believe that the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Lowlands is the most beneficial to our country due to its large population, an abundance of industries, and excellent farmland. Firstly, despite it being the smallest landform region, it is the most populated (containing 50% of Canada’s entire population). This means cities are required to be built and developed (creating numerous jobs and tourist attractions, boosting our economy), which can found all over the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Lowlands (ex. Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City). Secondly, there is an excellent reason why this region is nicknamed “Canada’s industrial and urban heartland” and that is due to the fact that 70%
Even though Canadian government is showing protective approach presently because of several factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country 's wealth to another country. But some believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there is so much investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has shown sign of rejection from the country’s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling towards it. There is different opinions and people are worried about the long run benefits or effects (Avery, Glossop, & Olexiuk, 2013).
